- Card Number:T02/T04
- Stars:4
- Scamper, City Patrol,is one of three standard sized character cards included with theMetroplex Deck.Like most character cards in theTransformers Trading Card Game, the card is double-sided, with foiled artwork of the character in Bot mode on one side, and Alt mode on the other. Scamper, City Patrol was made available as part of a ready to play box set, which also includedMetroplex, Autobot City,Six-Gun, Heavy Weapons Expert,Slammer, Combat Droneand a 40 card battle deck.
Notes
- Some additional animation of Scamper and Slammer driving through Metroplex can be seen in thesecret filefor Metroplex and Trypticon at the conclusion of "The Quintesson Journal".This animation is unique amongst that used in these trailers as it does not appear anywhere else in the series.
- In theMarvel UK comics Letters Page,Grimlocknoted that he didn't consider robots like Scamper, Slammer, and Six-Gun (who are extensions of Metroplex's personality) to 'count' as separate beings.Bear in mind:Grimlock is an insensitive exhaust vent.
- Kreon Scamper uses theIronhidehelmet as part of his build. His coloration is also based on the Scamper figure that came with theGenerationsMetroplextoy (which also appears in the same comic).
Character model
Scamper's Generation 1robot modecharacter modelhas a few discrepancies due to poor photo references of his toy presumably taken on 45° angles (which was the standard for most of the toy reference photos included in Generation 1 production bibles), obscuring some of the details and leading to a little bit of guess work for the artist. These discrepancies include:
- A protrusion from the top of the left shoulder is missing, making him asymmetric. This is presumably due to the gun barrel on the toy's left shoulder being obscured from view.
- The front wheels end up on the back of his shoulders, though the detail they're based on isn't the wheels at all, it's actually the hinge joint that folds the hood down to form his chest!
- His blaster is missing the "magazine" portion that hangs from the underside of the barrel. This likely blended in with the rest of his hand, due to the 45° angle.
- His head design is entirely made up! While it is not the first time a character has had a mouth in animation and faceplate on the toy (or vice versa), the rest of Scamper's head (aside from the visor) doesn't match up with the toy either. In fact, it actually looks like the toy's peg under the windshield (which sits behind his head) may have played a big role in this. Depending on the angles the photos were taken on, the peg would've been visible along the side of his head, leading the artist to think that he has flatOptimus Prime-esque "ears", when his head is actually closer to that of theSeekers, with the "vent" protrusions on the sides.
In the defense of the artist, however; Scamper's toy is moldedentirelyin black plastic, so trying to make out the details in iffy photo references would've likely been quite the challenge, so kudos to them for managing to translate the other 90% of his details accurately!
