Synopsis
Down river,Tasmania KidandDiverare on a routine scouting mission, much to their boredom. Their hard work and diligence is interrupted whenApacheappears from behind some brush and beckons them over. The pair dash to meet their Deputy Commander, only to find themselves caught in a net. They are hoisted away by jet modeBB,the whole thing having been a clever trap.
At thePredaconbase, BB delivers his two captiveMaximalstoStarscream.Kid and Diver demand to be released and Starscream hospitably offers to oblige...but onlyafterthey run a little "errand" for him.
Up in the sky,DirgeandThrustare on a scouting mission of their own, cursing their situation just as much as Kid and Diver were. Down near the Maximal base,NAVIalerts Apache (therealApache) to the approaching Predacons.Lio Convoyremarks that Kid and Diver are still missing and figures they could beat some answers out of the two bumbling knuckleheads.
With relative ease, the Maximals shoot Dirge and Thrust out of the sky and encircle them. The pair quickly gather their "wits" and begin pleading for their lives, asking why Lio Convoy would do such a thing. As the other Maximals look on in confusion,Scubanotices that their insignias have suddenly changed from Predacon to Maximal. Lio Convoy theorizes that the shock of the explosion must have destabilized their programming. Dirge and Thrust then proceed to apologize for their insubordination and pledge their loyalty to Lio Convoy.
Back at the Predacon base,GalvatronandMegastormgleefully approve of Starscream's scheme. Starscream promises to oversee the operation personally.
Outside, an injured Kid and Diver collapse at the edge of a valley. The Maximal sensors finally locate them and Lio Convoy orders his troops to move out.
When they arrive, however, Kid and Diver spring into action and begin attacking their former friends. Starscream and BB then come out of hiding and explain their brainwashing scheme to the Maximals. Suddenly, the earth quakes and Galvatron erupts from below, taking Lio Convoy by surprise and subduing him with his mighty scissors. Things look bad until Dirge and Thrust shoot Galvatron in the back and rescue their new Commander. Starscream is appalled that Lio Convoy would steal his brainwashing idea and, along with BB, takes out Dirge and Thrust.
As the battle rages on, a giddy Megastorm watches from a vantage point. He transforms to tank mode and prepares to fire his cannon into the middle of the battlefield, destroying both the Maximals and his brother, Galvatron, thus making him the newEmperor of Destruction. As Megastorm fires, though, he is taken by surprise by a geyser of water. His aim is ruined and the blast misses its target. It turns out Scuba had discovered an underground river and redirected it into Megastorm just in the nick of time. Having run out of energy thanks to his cannon blast, Megastorm is unable to transform back to robot mode and floats helplessly down the river, swearing vengeance on the amused Scuba.
Down in the battlefield, both sides recover from the sudden explosion. Galvatron retreats, declaring the fight to be a draw, as Starscream and BB carry the unconscious Dirge and Thrust back to base. Lio Convoy laments that the war is not over while Diver and Kid come to. They've returned to their original Maximal selves, though they have no memory of their time as Predacons. Apache begins to theorize that the shock of the explosion might have restored their programming only to be attacked by Kid and Diver, who angrily recall his "ambush" down by the river.

Notes
- Oddly, despite being published in a Japanese book, this manga reads from left to right like a Western comic.
- This manga was not the work ofShōji Imaki, the author of theBeast Wars IImanga published inComic Bom Bom,but insteadSusumu Ono.As such, this manga most likely takes place within the continuity of theBeast Wars IIanimated series, instead.
- The distinct lack of theInsectrons, theJointrons, and theSeacons, implies that the Maximals and Predacons are back on theNorth Continent.Additionally, Galvatron is awake, of sound mind, and in command of the Predacons in this story. With all of that in mind, given that theMagna Bossteam and the looming threat of theNemesisare likewise absent, this story can slot into the cartoon's events either betweenepisode 13andepisode 14,betweenepisode 18andepisode 19or betweenepisode 25andepisode 26.
