The Transformers: Best of
From Transformers Wiki
The Transformers: Best ofare collections of reprinted material byIDW Publishing. The collections were released at various points in IDW's run, and can be grouped loosely into four "phases".
The first incarnation of "Best of" took place in 2007. IDW released 2 collections of reprinted material. These were for writerSimon Furmanand artistDon Figueroa, both early "rock stars" of IDW, as well as the previous publishing company,Dreamwave Productions.TitledThe Best of Simon FurmanandThe Best of Don Figueroa, the collections were hardcovers and consisted of material throughout their professional Transformers careers. Covers featured previously released art from Figueroa.
The "Best of" moniker would next be used as a series of single-issue comics reprintingMarvel UKmaterial. TitledThe Transformers: Best of UK,the series consisted of five arcs (six with Target: 2006, whichdidn'tuse the "Best of" moniker) which were released from 2007–2009, and themselves collected in trades, as well as an omnibus. The covers for these alternated between retro art and new covers byNick Rocheand others.
In 2010, the third use of "Best of" would take the form of four trade paperbacks, each focusing on a major character, again consisting of material fromMarvel Comics,Dreamwave and IDW. Covers would be by then-newcomersLivio RamondelliandKlaus Scherwinski.
The final incarnation of "Best of" would take place much later, at the end of IDW's license for the brand in 2022. Similarly titled as the 2010 series, but as "Transformers: Best of", rather than "TheTransformers: Best of ", IDW returned to individual (but oversized) comics that again spotlighted major characters. The four characters from the 2010 series were featured once again, but with different material, as well as seven other characters. This final" Best of "collection focused more heavily on IDW material, with the exception ofTransformers: Best of the Rarities, collecting a trove of hard to find (and previously unreleased) material spanning multiple decades. This 11-issue collection featured covers byJames Biggie.
