Differences with movie

Since the comic adaptation is based on an earlier version of the script, it differs from the finalmoviein many details. Other differences may have resulted from certain points in the script being left vague on the details, thus leaving it toKris OpriskoandAlex Milneto fill in the gaps with their own imagination. Furthermore, lots of scenes and details from the movie are also dropped simply forspacereasons (the movie has more than two hours to tell its story, whereas the comic adaptation only has 88 pages in total). While the specific differences are discussed in detail on the pages for the individual issues, a few general observations deserve mention here:

  • Glenisentirelyabsent from the comic adaptation. Furthermore,Maggiealso only ever appears intwoscenes (in issues 3 and 4). This causes a weird discrepancy between issues 1 and 3—in issue 1, operators on board ofAir Force OnedetectFrenzy'sintrusion into their network on their own; yet in issue 3, Maggie tellsSamthatshe"caught an alien hacking into Air Force One" (like she did in the movie).
  • In the comic version,Simmonsis portrayed alotmore rude (and less comedic) than in the movie.
  • In general, nearlyallof the more humorous elements of the movie are missing from the comic adaptation, which presents itself as straightforward Serious Business all the way. That means no Indian phone operator, noMojo(except for one very brief scene), no instances of Sam making a fool out of himself, and no "Sam's Happy Time".
  • Several times, scenes and lines are attributed to different characters as opposed to the movie, particularly in issue 3.
  • Barricade'sfate (which is left open in the movie itself) is explicitly addressed in issue 4 of the comic adaptation (althoughThe Reign of Starscreamlater negates it).
  • For some reason, Ironhide never speaks.
