Transformers Fandom History

The legendaryCanadianfan Daniel "Protoman" Arseneault started his humble Transformers beginnings with his first trip to seesome robot moviewith his next door neighbour back in 1986, it all snowballed from there. There he was introduced to something new and beautiful to him and not to mention coming into contact with acharacterthat would become dear to hisheartand always brought up when the name "Protoman" is mentioned. As he grew older, he used his money working at BMW as a mechanic and semi-pro racing in Formula Ford and KART to fund his insane lust for all things Transformers. Considered one of the top representatives of the Canadian Transformers fandom, Daniel uses his social jock influence to bring others who normally see the hobby as a "nerdy thing" and brings light to them as if it was some kind ofreligionthey were missing out on.

According to the Twitter page ofDerrick J. Wyatt, some visual aspects ofRodimus PrimefromTransformers Animatedwere based on Daniel, such as the popped collar which is a regular part of his attire.[1]

Daniel appeared onThis Morning Liveon July 9th, 2007 which aired live all over the eastern Canada area on the Global TV network. Protoman talked about Transformers, his collection and how he got so "deep" into the hobby. When pictures of his house and collection were shown, off-camera news anchor Mike Lecouteur jaw dropped and later told Protoman about owningOmega Supremeas a child.

Protoman was featured in Montreal, Canada's largest newspaper,The Gazetteon July 28th, 2007 in a quarter page article with photo and full interview about his huge collection of Transformers, his life and feelings about thenew Transformers movie.

Featured in an extensive interview on G4'sElectric Playgroundon August 3rd 2010, TFcon was the focus and Protoman was the guide for the show. He talked about the convention's history, what helped Transformers endure all those years and what he loves about the fans.[5]

Daniel/Protoman was featured onStorage Warson February 20th 2015. The pickers (Cindy and Rick) of the show found a bag of 1984-1986 G1 Transformers and brought them to TFcon that was "conveniently" happening the same day. Further information from the recording process showed that the final price given (and aired) for the items was chosen by the producer to make sure the pickers got "2nd place" in cost vs. profit. Protoman originally gave an estimation of about $250-$300 "at most", which they would not happy with.[6]
