678 0 ‎‡a  Carmencita (Real name: Carmen Dauset. Variant spelling: Dausset) was a Spanish dancer who performed throughout Europe and the United States in the late 1800s. She first appeared in New York in January, 1891. She was an extremely popular entertainer, who not only toured across America, but was featured in advertisements and modeled for painters such as John Singer Sargent, William Merritt Chase, and James Beckworth. She also danced in the short, silent film, Carmencita, in 1894. Some sources say she died in 1910, possibly in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, United States. However, other sources say that she retired to Spain and her date of death is unknown. She had many imitators and it is thought that some of the performances reported on in the early 1900s were not Carmencita's, but rather performances of an imitator or imitators, one of whom may have died in Aliquippa.‏
