670 ‎‡a NUCMC data from Maine Historical Society for Joseph Cyrus Fisher cartoons, approximately 1916-1918.‏ ‎‡b (Joseph Cyrus Fisher was born in Tunstall, Virginia, in 1886. He went to Portland, Maine, as part of a construction crew that installed pilings on which the Burnham & Morrill plant at Back Cove would be built. He was well-liked by the owners of B&M, and offered a permanent job. Until the plant was completed, Joe Fisher worked as a butler for Seth Larabee, a lawyer for B&M who lived at 357 Spring St. Joseph Fisher was an accomplished editorial cartoonist, his work appearing in both Black weeklies and daily newspapers. The cartoons dealt mostly with racial themes, but also on World War I and the German threat. He allegedly contracted typhoid fever by digging and eating contaminated clams in the Back Cove area. He died at Maine General Hospital (now Maine Medical Center) on October 19, 1938.)‏
