TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN': As Told By a Couple Happily Married (Most Days) for 50+ YearsKindle Edition

4.24.2 out of 5 stars 15 ratings

The only way to ensure a long life is to keep having birthdays.
Steve and Mary McSwain Steele have celebrated 72 birthdays, 52 as a married couple. Looking back over the past seven decades, they’ve witnessed an incredible transformation in everything from fashion to entertainment to politics: Bell bottoms, mini-skirts, and skinny pants. Rock ‘n’ Roll, Disco, and Hip-Hop. The Greatest Generation, Baby Boomers, and Gen Z. The Vietnam Conflict, The Civil Rights Movement, and the fight for gender equality. Zorro, The Ed Sulivan Show, Friends, The Bachelor.
Take a deep dive into nostalgia with the Steeles as they reminisce and look to the future. This sometimes serious, mostly humorous story will bring back long-forgotten memories and songs if you’ve had enough birthdays to remember the “olden days.” If you’re under 50, “Times” will help you better understand your parents and explain why they are (fill in the blanks here: Quirky? Penny pinchers? Set in their ways?)
Ahh, the early days. Life was simpler back then. Or was it?

Beautifully and very humbly written. So enjoyable. A story about people that we all knew who married so young; started a family with little money. Married 52 years; raised some good kids. Their kids raised good kids. Not preachy-practical. And some great advice for people over 60! Easy read. You will like these people!

I had to smile through most of this book. Perhaps I enjoyed it because it was close to my generation. I have had so many of the same experiences and thoughts as the author I had to check to make sure I wasn’t the author. This would be a great gift for a friend who would enjoy a refreshing read. Nothing but joy and a few lessons learned.

So much I could relate to! How fast our kids grow up, the challenges of our early married years and how to move into our “senior” years with grace and humor. Faith and family and friends….. gifts not to be taken for granted!
