Probiotics are classified as supplements, just like vitamins, so they are not regulated by the FDA nor do they have to prove the claims on the label. Culturelle's claims are just as vague, saying their strain is the "most clinically studied strain" while some other brands say the exact same thing about completely different strains. My Gastroenteroligist said there is no scientific evidence that probiotics help prevent disease or GI disorders, but they are safe and can help with things like gas, bloating, and irregularity. It's no different than a multivitamin in that it isn't harmful but also not necessarily doing anything. Regardless, he suggested three brands which are considered to be reputable and quality, and Culturelle was one of them. I have been taking these for about 2 weeks now. I haven't had any issues taking them. I'm not convinced they are helping me yet but I will finish out the box.
