The Heart of My Bible Studies for 15 Years
I have had 12 DYNAMIC METHODS OF BIBLE STUDY which I received from Billy Graham's ministry in 1990. I assume this book is a revision of the other. My RYRIE STUDY BIBLE and this book are the heart and soul of my personal Bible study since I am a layman who was brought up in the Catholic church. I felt led by God to see that the Book Survey Method, the Chapter Study Method and the Book Synthesis method all taken together formed a complete blueprint for studying a complete book of the Bible. My best study was the 3600 page study that I did on the Book of Ezekiel. When I got bored with the book studies, I looked up the topical study method. So, I have 25 of these book and topical studies since 1990.I would say that this book is very very helpful because in 1986 when I became interested in Bible prophecy, I just could not find that many books on that subject at the local Christian bookstore. And Chuck Swindoll does not have many books or study guides on that subject; so I just went out on my own and did my own personal studies. I think it is actually better to read and study the Bible on your own and draw you own conclusions than to just read it in someone else's book.That seemed to work well for WWI Hero SArgeant York whose church encouraged people to read the Bible on their own and decide what it meant to their hearts and consciences.Sometimes, authors seem to leave things out that I have noticed on my own: Like who is the Second Beast of Revelation 13-maybe the US and the UK?! No one seems to try to expound on that subject in Christian prophecy books!I also have LIVING BY THE BOOK bu Howard Hendricks and INDEPENDENT BIBLE STUDY byu Irving Jensen. I have never taken a Seminary class on Bible study. And I get bits and pieces here and there; yet Rick Warren's book is really the foundation of my studies. It is like when I got whipped in intramural chess in high school in 7 or 15 moves by the captain of the chess team and I went out to try to learn from study books as he advised on how to play better. So, this like the book CHESS IN ONE HOUR that I bought at the Hobby Store. It tells you everything you need to know in a hurry in a bare bones manner!

The Bible is a special book. So much wisdom! No other book contains prophesy that is fulfilled. I have read the Bible through four times. Bible Study Methods is not a book that you just read through like Purpose Driven Life, it is just what the title says, a list of methods that you can use to study people in the Bible, chapters, words topics or other subjects. It points you to other resources most of which are available on the internet now. If you will get this book and use it to dig into the Bible you will find deeper meaning. There is more under the hood than you thought. Do a study and I think you will find it very rewarding and humbling. One thing you might enjoy more is listening to someone else who has used the book tell about the studies they did.

You can be flexible when you use the methods. Sometimes it is hard to tell when the study of a word becomes the study of a topic or a theme. You can use methods from all three. There are lots of good Bible concordances, commentaries, and encyclopedia's on the internet so you might not use the exact one that is recommended in the book if you can't find it (or you could probably order it from Amazon!). You can find Strong's numbers for KJV and NASB on BibleHub. I would give this book 10 stars if I could. But to benefit from it you are going to have to commit hours of time over days and in some cases weeks. Some of the studies can be done in a few hours but others will take weeks. I recommend it highly. You will have to get in and drive it around, but it will blow your doors off!

I'm a Bible school student and had this text as one of two for a Bible Study Teaching Methods class. The book is an excellent resource for learning some basic methods of Bible study you can do on your own and then teach others to do as well.
The only complaint I have about this book is the binding (hence the 4 stars). It is so poor that the spine cracked and pages were falling out before I finished reading the 2nd chapter. I'm going to contact the publisher and see if they will send me another book. Until then, I'll have to use lots of tape to keep the pages in place!
Other than this, the book is excellent and would be a great addition to any Christian's library, but especially if you are a teacher of the Bible.

This book is very easy to read and understand. I found this book so helpful in my spiritual life that I gave it as gifts to four other people. It is informative and allows the reader to work at their pace. The author ask that you not move from one method until you have totally mastered it.

I also like the fact that Rick Warren explained various Bible translations and provided a list of tool to use during Bible Study. His explanation of each Bible study tool is so helpful. It is great that he provided a list of good commentaires and so forth to use. His explanations enabled me to purchase several good tools for my library and to know how to use them.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in studying God's word. I gave the book to a new minister, and two Church School teachers. They all found the book to be very helpful.

I have used this book for 20 years for personal study, for teaching "How to..." classes, and to use as study aid for others personal study. Most Bible study how to books are just a lot of reading. Warren gives just enough explanation and why bible study is important, but the give some of the most practical study methods for getting the most out of your time with God in His Word. I have used it so much that I now had a local company(FedEx) put a spiral binding on the book that makes it so much easier to use.

This is one book that I recommend to all Christians as one the ten books they MUST read. This book is helpful and presented humbly by a renowned teacher. He gives 12 ways to read and study your Bible and all of them work but one or two will really resonate with you and help you establish a rhythm of Bible study in your life. This isn't onerous to read, rather the opposite and you will find his manner conducive to making up your own mind.
