FAQs about hotels in Birmingham

First-class Shopping, Culture and Sports

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centers. Well-known for its M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it's also a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.

Most city center hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping center, and behind that is Digbeth Bus Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.

The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Center) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.

Just across the street is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modeled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.

The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top soccer clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

I found Birmingham very pleasant. The people I Met were very friendly and helpful. I’m from London and although it is a busy city not quite as hectic as London. I think some of the statues show a bit of humour. I like floozy in the jacuzzi in Victoria Square. The canal area is really nice shame I didn’t get to explore more. I went to a concert at Symphony hall which I thought was a great venue. I’d go again and stay a day or 2 longer next time. I walked to my hotel from the station and found it easy to get around.

Ahh, we come here all the time - My son loves an over night or two here in the city. We bimble about - go to his favourite Japanese restaurant (Kyoto Sushi bar and grill is you were wondering - top notch!) - and do a little shopping and come home. Sometimes we pop to an attraction - like the science museum, or the like... but there is enough to see walking about to be honest. The last time we came, it was the birmingham weekender - this was timed by complete accident! but it was great. there is always something on here in Brum

Birmingham has a very buzzing culture of nice restaurants and bars near the canal area plus good venues for concerts however I was very disappointed in the shopping area, in the Bullring Mall all of the "up" escalators were not working in the Mall!! Outside the streets are dirty, the other shops are terrible, looked like they were about to close down, I walked to House of Fraser and it looked like they were about to pull the grills over for permanent closure. I would never go there again. Main train station New Street was clean and well organised with helpful staff

I came for work so not really an applicable questions, but highly recommend 2 restaurants I went to; Asha's Indian Fine Dining Restaurant & Cocktail Bar for an amazing Indian meal. Secondly, Fumo is a stylish, contemporary Italian restaurant, cocktail bar and late lounge and part of the award-winning San Carlo group of restaurants & serve Italian tapas sized dishes to get a great choice of the dishes they offer.

Really nice traditional hotel. Room was just fine and clean, nothing luxurious but everything that we needed with really comfy beds. Bathroom was OK and clean. Traditional English breakfast. There is a very nice restaurant/pub in the hotel with very good food, nice staff and local beer and cocktails. Good access to Birmingham city centre (bus stop just across a street, train station 5 minutes walk).

Really good hotel for the city centre of Birmingham. We parked at the Mailbox and it was an easy 5 minute walk. The floor we stayed on was really quiet which was excellent. Lifts are fast and frequent. Breakfast was fine with a reasonable selection. The eating area was busy but they do provide information on the busiest times and there were lots of staff about to help also.
