FAQs about hotels in Newcastle upon Tyne

The Spirit of the North

A former Industrial Revolution hub, Newcastle has reinvented itself into a vibrant, forward-thinking city. Although no longer brewed here, Newcastle Brown Ale, or Newkie Brown, is synonymous with the city, so it’s no surprise that the nightlife is fantastic.

From the O2 Academy to the Sage Music Center, the Newcastle music venues are among the best in England. The city also has a thriving arts scene, including The Biscuit Factory – Britain’s largest original art store.

Equally as good is the Newcastle shopping. The Central Arcade is in an attractive Victorian building, and across the River Tyne in Gateshead is the Metro Center, Europe’s largest shopping and leisure complex. Indeed, these 2 cities have a healthy rivalry that plays out in sports, architecture and, sometimes, the bizarre.

Gateshead boasts the Angel of The North, a huge statue that is already its most recognized (and controversial) symbol. While in Newcastle the Vampire Rabbit sits above a door near St Nicholas’ Cathedral. Newcastle United Football Club has the most prestigious record, but Gateshead Stadium has seen many a star compete at its international athletics meets.

To the west of the city are some remains of Hadrian’s Wall and further north is Newcastle Airport. See Booking.com for a range of accommodations all over this happening city.

We like Newcastle, people are friendly and its just a nice place to wander around. We took a ride on the hop on hop off tour bus and took in the sights. Theres loads to keep you entertained, loads of shops, restaurants and eateries. Theres also a Hard Rock Cafe now down near the Quay side, its not hard to find. Plenty of hotels and parking and the train station is very central.

Lovely accommodation, right in the centre of Newcastle.

Lovely accommodation, right in the centre of Newcastle. Rooms are incredible, even though a little compact, more than enough room and excellent facilities, including a very good pressure shower. The staff were lovely and very helpful, and the bar service was a dream. Would stay here on future stays to Newcastle.

Good City museums. Plenty of places to eat out.

Good City museums. Plenty of places to eat out. City was just as busy in the evenings as daytime to wander around in the evening. We ate at The Gate, Newgate where there are a few bars and restaurants and cinemas. If you want picnic snacks the railway station has quite a few shops with snack meals for sale. Otherwise lots of coffee shops and takeaways in the city. Big student vibe in a lot of the clubs, lots of young people sitting outside or inside venues. Been to Newcastle for a few years now to see friends and go to events at the Utilita arena. Be careful of driving in the city as it is a zero carbon city, we parked up for our stay in Times Square mutistorey car park and walked everywhere as it is fairly central.

Newcastle is a lovely place. Everyone is so friendly, it's lively at the weekends but there are plenty of places for a more chilled evening. You can also get a decent pint for £2.50. I've been coming here for 10 years and will be returning July 2025

The location is excellent. Very close to the City Centre, great restaurants, bars, shopping. We checked in on Tuesday 21st November at 3pm. The young lady who checked us in was the epitome of welcoming. very friendly, really warm and welcoming and made it clear that if there was anything she could do to help we only needed to ask. She is a real credit to the Hotel, and indeed Newcastle. These first impressions really last. The room was really what we needed, really comfy bed, great bathroom etc. Really quiet during the night.

I was greeted by what I can only describe as a very friendly member of staff who immediately made me laugh with something that she said to me. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk at best to the nearest Metro station making travel to and from the city centre very easy. The bathroom for my single room was of a very high standard that I haven’t had in more expensive hotels. If I ever come back to Newcastle, I will definitely look at staying here again.
