Around-the-World Roundup: 'Sucker Punch' Leads Slow Weekend
With a few major openings,Sucker Punchfinished ahead ofJust Go With ItandBattle: Los Angeleson one of the slowest weekends in recent memory at the foreign box office. Among the new releases,Hopdidn't translate that well, whileSource Code's solid launches in the United Kingdom and Russia suggested some overseas potential for the sci-fi thriller.
Sucker Punchearned $11.5 million from 4,345 screens in 39 markets. It debuted in first place in Germany with $1.6 million and second place in France with $2.4 million, both of which were decent though not spectacular starts. It was less of an attraction in Russia and the U.K., though, finishing in fourth place in both territories with $2 million and $1.3 million, respectively. TheZack Snyder-directed action movie has now made $20.3 million overseas and is set to expand to Australia and South Korea this coming weekend.
Just Go With Itadded $10.9 million to bring its foreign total to $76.3 million. It opened in first in Australia with $2.44 million, which was down a bit from starAdam Sandler'sGrown Ups.The movie's top territory was once again Russia, where it eased 34 percent to $2.9 million.Just Go With Ithas now made $180 million worldwide (domestic plus foreign) and will move in to Sandler's Top Ten next weekend.

After holding well in its second weekend there, the movie plummeted 63 percent to $2.7 million in its third outing. Its best debut this weekend came in Spain, where it finished in first place with $2.7 million.Battle: Los Angeleshas so far made $96.1 million overseas and should cross the $100 million mark before the end of the week.
Rangogrossed $8.6 million from 54 territories to bring its foreign total to $107.7 million. The chameleon held on to the top spot in France, falling 36 percent to $2.7 million. It also added $1.1 million in both Australia and Russia, and its worldwide total reached a solid $222 million.
WhileHopmanaged to open at the same level asRangodomestically, it didn't fare nearly as well overseas: the Illumination Entertainment movie opened to a meager $6.7 million in 26 territories. It had a solid $2.25 million first place start in the U.K., though that was way off fromDespicable Me's $5.9 million opening in October. Things were much worse in Germany and Italy, where the movie debuted to $857,000 and $651,000, respectively.Hopexpands to Australia and Portugal this coming weekend and will have reached the rest of Europe by Easter weekend (April 22).
