As part of a nationwide celebration honoring 100 years of service, Ace Hardware in Woodland joined the national fun by holding a small block party in the store’s parking lot. To help make the celebration even bigger, the 1350 E. Main St. store also hosted a Yolo County Animal Services adoption event.

From 11 a.m. to around 2:30 p.m., food trucks, a snow cone vehicle and about a half dozen classic cars filled the parking lot, providing light entertainment and snacks for anyone who happened to drop by. Inside, a few dozen cats, three husky puppies and a few older but no less deserving foster dogs were on display for all to meet and hopefully adopt.

“Ace reached out to us for the event and I thought it was a great opportunity for us to partner with them,” Director of Animal Services Stephanie Amato said.

Amato mentioned that two kittens had already been adopted during the event’s opening hour and another 10-15 more were expected to be adopted before the event concluded.
