Drumroll, please, for the best of the best of Britain's B&Bs for 2024.

The AAhas just crowned the country's best B&Bs in its annual Bed and Breakfast Awards, now in its 28th year. Housekeeping standards, breakfast, hospitality and service were all put under the microscope to decide the winner.

Commenting on the nine winning B&Bs, Simon Numphud, managing Director at AA Hotel & Hospitality Services, says: 'This year we have a very rich B&B scene across the UK, showcasing an extraordinary level of individuality and the very highest standards of hospitality.

'The calibre of the nine worthy winners represents the very best from across Scotland, Wales and England. With so many to choose from, holidaymakers can explore Britain, enjoying a comfortable sleep and delicious breakfast in an array of B&Bs wherever they decide to go.'

AA BED AND BREAKFASTS OF THE YEAR

ENGLAND: Mallard Grange - Ripon, North Yorkshire

The AA inspector said the bedrooms at this 16th-century farmhouse are 'filled with a wealth of thoughtful extras'

The inspector said the bedrooms at this 16th-century farmhouse and smithy are 'filled with a wealth of thoughtful extras'.

They add: 'Breakfast is one of the highlights of any stay here and features home-reared and local produce.

'The property is a short walk away from Fountains Abbey.'

SCOTLAND: The Auld Kirk - Ballater, Aberdeenshire

'Many original features of the kirk [church] have been restored and incorporated in the design' at The Auld Kirk in Aberdeenshire

The AA describes this former Victorian Scottish Free Church building as a 'careful conversion into a warm guest house'.

The inspector loves the use of 'original kirk [church] features in the property design', and gives a thumbs up for the food, adding: 'Excellent homecooked breakfasts, using the finest local produce, are served at the table in the characterful dining room.'

WALES: Bryn Derwen - Llandudno, Conwy

'Décor and furnishings highlight the historic charm of the property,' says the AA about Bryn Derwen, located 'in a quiet area of Llandudno'

Byrn Derwenis 'located in a quiet area of Llandudno' just a 'short walk from the main shopping area and local restaurants'.

The AA team adds: 'A friendly welcome is assured at this impressive Victorian house, which retains many original features such as tiled floors and fine stained-glass windows. Décor and furnishings highlight the historic charm of the property, which is most apparent in the sumptuous lounges and attractive dining room.'

AA INN OF THE YEAR

ENGLAND: The Cartford Inn - Little Ecclestone, Lancashire

The family-run Cartford Inn offers 'stylish and chic accommodation' within a 17th-century building, says the AA

The AA says family-runCartford Inn'enjoys extensive views towards the Lake District and offers stylish and chic accommodation together with award-winning food'.

Guests get Juliet balconies in some of the 17th-century's inn's rooms while 'eating on the terrace is possible in warmer weather'. There's even a TOTI deli on site.

SCOTLAND: Kildrummy Inn - Kildrummy, Aberdeenshire

The Grampian Inn is the 'perfect base for touring the Grampian Mountains and beyond'

This 'family-run, traditional inn' with its 'four charming bedrooms', says the AA, is the 'perfect base for touring the Grampian Mountains and beyond'.

The inspector loves the lounge bar, with its 'roaring fire and good selection of beers and whiskies', concluding that it's a 'great place to while away the time'.

The dining, too, is enticing, with the AA inspector adding that 'no trip would be complete without sampling the food on offer', which is an 'indulgent' offering that 'captures the essence of the dramatic Cairngorms landscape'.

WALES: Y Talbot - Tregaron, Ceredigion

The AA is impressed with Y Talbot's bedrooms and restaurant, which uses 'quality produce'

The AA says: 'Y Talbotprovides a range of very high-quality bedrooms and bathrooms with luxury showers.'

The inspector also loves the 'traditional bar serving real ales' and the B&B's restaurant, which offers a 'very good selection of dishes using quality produce'.

AA RESTAURANT WITH ROOMS OF THE YEAR

ENGLAND: Boys Hall - Ashford, Kent

Boys Hall is a 'lavishly restored 17th-century manor house'

The AA says: 'Decorated in a beautiful boutique style,Boys Hallis a lavishly restored 17th-century manor house now resurrected as a classy restaurant with rooms.'

The inspector says 'the lovely gardens are a pleasure to wander' and 'the location is perfect for exploring Kent's attractions'. Each of the nine bedrooms are 'individually styled'.

SCOTLAND: Mingary Castle - Kilchoan

This restaurant with rooms is built within the curtain walls of Mingary Castle, opposite the Isle of Mull

The AA explains that this 'unique and individual' property is 'built within the 13th-century curtain walls ofMingary Castle' and possesses 'high levels of quality, charm and character'.

The inspector continues: 'Luxurious feature bedrooms and en suites combine with a stunning restaurant showcasing great technical skill.

'Guests can explore the top of the curtain wall or climb down the staircase towards the sea and the viewing platform to take in the Isle of Mull just across the water.'

WALES: The Checkers - Montgomery, Powys

Checkers offers 'a relaxed atmosphere and a chance to get away from it all' in a 17th-century coaching inn 'brimming with character'

The AA says that here guests can 'expect modern British cuisine served in an intimate and relaxed environment, with a focus on carefully sourced seasonal ingredients and fine wines'.

Checkerscan be found in Montgomery, a 'picturesque Welsh borders town close to the Offa's Dyke path, River Severn and Shropshire Hills'.

The team adds that the 17th-century coaching inn is 'brimming with character'.
