Ga. community shocked by deaths of firefighters

Residents of Liberty County had hoped for a good outcome during the search for the missing firefighters

LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. — The Liberty County community has expressed shock after authorities in Tennessee recovered thebodies of two missing firefighters.

The bodies of Liberty County firefighters Raegan Anderson and Chandler Kuhbander were discovered in Cocke County, Tennessee, on June 30, according to theHinesville Police Department.The pair had been missing since June 24.

Many community members shared the sentiment about the worst possible outcome, and they wish it could have been different,WSAVreported.

“Everybody wanted the best outcome for him, and her, for both,” said an employee at Rodeo Mexican restaurant, a restaurant located across from the firehouse where Kuhbander and Anderson worked. “Everybody was shocked and devastated at what was happening. We just didn’t know how to react. Everybody was really sad.”

According to police reports, Anderson had a history of suicidal ideation and was arrested just days before the disappearance.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is the lead agency in the investigation. While they have not confirmed the cause of death, they state that the investigation is ongoing.
