‘The Masked Singer’ spoilers: Who is Gumball?

One of our favorite fellows competing on “The Masked Singer”season 11 is disguised as the Gumball. He wowed the crowd in his first appearance on March 13 with a medley of “If I Only Had a Heart” byJack Haleyand “Heartbeat Song” byKelly Clarkson.It became clear quite quickly that this contender is someone who has made his living by raising his voice in song.

We are absolutely certain that the Gumball isScott Porter,star of the Netflix hit “Ginny and Georgia.” Don’t believe us? Just consider how so many of the clues fit in with the life of Scott Porter.

While at the University of Central Florida, Scott joined the a cappella group,4:2:Five.And one of his first jobs as an actor was in the 2004 original cast of the off-Broadway musical “Altar Boyz,” a musical comedy about a Christian boy band.

Porter first came to fame on “Friday Night Lights,” the TV version of the film of the same name. He then landed a lead role in the 2009 movie “Bandslam” oppositeVanessa Hudgens(who is also competing on this season of “The Masked Singer” disguised as Goldfish). That appearance was referenced by the image of Gumball playing the drums as part of a band.

Scott starred on CW’s “Hart of Dixie” for four years beginning in 2011. That hit series was referenced by the visual clue of the US map with a heart around Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama (three of the states referred to as “Dixie” ) and the heart clock.

Gumball revealed, “deep down, at the end of the day, Tin Man always had the heart of a superhero and I actually might too.” Porter has done plenty of voice work for animated TV shows over the years. Among the characters he has played are: Cyclops in “Marvel Anime”; Scarlet Spider in “Ultimate Spider-Man” (remember that big spider we saw in Gumball’s clue package); White Wolf in “Avengers Assemble”; and Flash in “Harley Quinn.” He also provides the voice for a slew of super-heroes in video games.
