In 1986 at twenty six years old, Brian left his hometown to pursue an art career in Los Angeles. While his professional aspirations foundered, his creative ones did not. He cartoons and writes witticisms that reflect life where things do not win big. His disdain for festive advice givers offers pessimistic readers laughter amid their travails. Brian's work seeks identification with those like minded, whether they have histories of substance abuse, support groups or psych ward travesty. He communicates across to interested readers. He does not instruct, advise or presume expertise in any manner. ...more

“My secret to maintaining a youthful appearance? Immaturity.”
Brian Spellman, Cartoonist's Book Camp

“I was accused of always acting superior. Always means being, not acting.”
Brian Spellman, Cartoonist's Book Camp

“I never read Civil Disobedience. They did assign it.”
Brian Spellman

“No good deed goes unpunished.”
Oscar Wilde

“There comes a time when you look into the mirror and you realize that what you see is all that you will ever be. And then you accept it. Or you kill yourself. Or you stop looking in mirrors.”
J. Michael Straczynski, Babylon 5: The Scripts of J. Michael Straczynski, Vol. 2

“People pontificate," Suicide is selfishness. "Career churchmen like Pater go a step further and call in a cowardly assault on the living. Oafs argue this specious line for varying reason: to evade fingers of blame, to impress one's audience with one's mental fiber, to vent anger, or just because one lacks the necessary suffering to sympathize. Cowardice is nothing to do with it - suicide takes considerable courage. Japanese have the right idea. No, what's selfish is to demand another to endure an intolerable existence, just to spare families, friends, and enemies a bit of soul-searching.”
David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas

“The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference.”
Elie Wiesel

“A serious and good philosophical work could be written consisting entirely of jokes.”
Ludwig Wittgenstein
