I stopped reading around 50% in. The idea is good, but in many ways the story does not make too much sense. I also don't understand why every time the granddaughter thinks of her granddad she feels it necessary to use his full name and title. Also parts of the story don't make sense. For instanceAdditionally, and this is just my personal taste, I am fed up with books, shows, movies whatevers that show the hero basically assaulting or harassing the heroine, and she's turned on by it.

“Black magic operates most effectively in preconscious, marginal areas. Casual curses are the most effective.” William S. Burroughs

This is Book 1, Red Riding Hood, in the Tangled Tales Series.

This is the first book in the Tangled Tales Series. Since it was only $0.99, I thought a story on Red Riding Hood would be interesting. And, it was; however, there were problems due to it being the first book in the series. That is always the hardest, because there is a lot of ground work that has to be laid down for the remaining stories. The good and bad guys have to be identified and the hero and his heroine have to struggle to reach their HEA.

The main villain… or villainess, is the very powerful witch Hecuba. She has it in for the head of the de Bar clan or family and has cursed the seven siblings with various horrible things that will happened to them. In book 1, we deal with Lord Hugh [Wolf] de Bar of Babeny and Lady Winifred [Red] Chaserton of Tavistock. Their HEA comes about after a lot of confusion and her acting down right stupid. We have the damsel in the dark forest. Of course, she keeps going there against the advice of her protector. She is convinced that she can take care of herself and just because she is a tiny little thing, she can hold her own against a hulking handsome shape-shifting wolf-man. Yeah, makes perfect sense. And they eventually wind up having amazing sex and she is totally in love with him by the end of a few chapters. In fact, the book ends at 85% with a few author pages and excerpts of several other stories.

In places, it was cute, funny, and then it was confusing as heck, predictable, and obvious as our couple worked toward their HEA. We were set up for book two as other siblings arrived so they could be introduced to us. There are seven siblings in all and so far, I’ve seen four books posted. I already had book two so I will read that next. Not sure how far into the series I will go. I’ve had this book since last year. Since it is October, I figured it was time to read my paranormal books.

Rating: PG-17: MA [mature audience]: graphic explicit sex scenes and sensual behavior.

The author sent me the audiobook for free. And to be honest, I didn't love the narrator. I'm not going to talk about the actual book at all because I can't really comment on that, so this review is mainly about the audiobook specifically. The narrator was boring. So much so that I kept forgetting that I was listening to an audiobook. I am pretty sure I would have liked this one more if I had the ebook, but since it wasn't available through my library or kindle unlimited, I listened to it on audio and was disappointed. Whoever this narrator was, I will be sure to avoid their books in the future.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book it’s a short read but was enjoyable nonetheless
This is a entertaining twist to the traditional fairytale of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. Seven siblings have been cursed by the witch Hecuba and Book 1 is all about Hugh de Bar, whose curse is to be part human/part wolf and the granddaughter of his bitterest enemy, Lady Winifred Chaserton who he initially sees as a means to an end. The main characters are very likeable I can’t wait to read the next book

Lady and the Wolf is the first of the Tangled Tales. It is a creative, sort of sexy variation of Little Red Riding Hood. This first tale of the unfortunate Family de Bar features twins Hugh and Arnon, who are now, compliments of Hecuba, wolves. Those living in the neighboring castle relentlessly pursue them and the other wolves in the forest near their home. One of the hunters from Tavistock Castle is the Earl’s granddaughter, Lady Winifred Chasterton (she has a red cloak). Once they meet, Hugh (a shifter) and Winifred discover that things are not what they seem. This tale is a puzzle with misconceptions to clear up, mysteries to be solved, and curses to be broken. There might even be romance in the air. The story is twisted and tangled. The characters are all present and weirdly similar to those in the original fairytale. An entertaining story brought to life by Brian J. Gill’s wonderful narration.

Strange, but apt analogy:

After the New Year, I baked a glorious cheesecake; four inches tall, decadently rich awesomeness, drizzled with a berry reduction. Then, during the first phase of stay-at-home orders, I got a craving for cheesecake, but all I had were the ingredients for the kind I used to make in high school, beforeI had learned to cook and bake. You know -- a no-bake cheesecake, that you glop cherry pie filling on top of, and call it "good enough". Well, that is what this Red Riding Hood tale made me think of; it'sok, but after you've had the real thing, it's a poor substitute.

As dumb as this is going to sound, I feel a bit cursed trying to read this series. Perhaps, if I had come across it a couple years ago, it would've just been sweet, short, and a fun re-telling. And indeed, it does hit those marks; however, it falls sadly flat for me, and is highly forgettable. Having read Lidiya Foxglove's take on fairy-tales, I am a bit ruined, I fully admit it.

Still, I had high hopes when I began. Those hopes kept dropping as I read further into the book. Sure, it's the first in a series, and has a lot of groundwork to cover, as with any series. And there were funny moments that were cute. But perhaps that was the problem -- too much "cute-ness". There was death, betrayal, lies, loss, and pain all happening in this story, but it just couldn't give up on being "cute". About halfway through, the cute-factor was no longer a benefit, and I was intensely weary of Red and Wolf, and their astounding short-sightedness (both figuratively and literally). I finished the book, because I wanted to see how it was going to lead into the next story, and that's all. I thought I was going to get a repetitive stress injury paging through the e-book, for crying out loud!

Honestly, it's just as well this book was a novella, because it was clearly tough as it was, to draw out the story as long as the author managed to. If you're into "cutesy" stories, then this will likely charm you. If you've delved into deeper realms of fairy-tales, led by a better writer, then keep looking.

The de bar siblings have been cursed by a witch named hecuba. Lord Hugh de bar is the first of the siblings we meet in this series, his curse is to shape shift into a wolf each night. Hugh blames lady Winifred chasertons grandfather earl Roland Chesterton of tavistock for his. Curse and seeks to use her to lure her grandfather out off hiddng and take his revenge.
Lady Winifred ( red) is determined to uncover her grandfathers secrets. She has ignored his orders and stuck out of the castle to the woods to investigate where her grandfather's knights take a mysterious basket off food to when they are on there hunting trips. She never expected her little adventure would lead her right into the arms of Hugh ( wolf).
Will red and wolf give into their passion or will the fuse between their familys come between them.
I love these books. Each book is a twist on a traditional fairytale. This one is a twist on little red riding hood and the big bad wolf.
Shape shifters, a witch, a warlock and curses what's not to love!
I instantly fell in love with the characters.
A brilliant read. This isn't a very big book so perfect if you want a short story to read.
I reccomend these books to anyone who loves fairytale remakes.

I think this book was as exciting and mysterious as all of Elizabeth Rose's books... I read this a long time ago and wanted to read again, but I didn't rate it nor log it on Goodreads at the time.
This story pulls you into the fantasy of Red Riding Hood but as a fantasy for adults. Winifred, Red, is able to hunt and go out during the night if she sneaks out. She meets Lord Hugh de Bar of Babeny, Wolf, one of those nights and is ensnared by him...
This series is starting off wonderful; I just hope that it give glimpses' of HEA throughout the rest of the books for the 'de Bar' family.

A retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, in the form of a historical fantasy romance. Two families, enemies for the belief that the once allies, were deceived into believing in the lies of a powerful witch, who cursed the de Bar family. Hugh, known as Wolf and his twin brother Arnon take on the brunt of the curse, with Arnon in wolf form and Wolf being able to shapeshift from wolf to human. Lady Winnifred is the granddaughter of the enemy clan, and Wolf believing if he captures Lady Winnifred, as he vows to kill her grandfather, who cursed them.

This is a shorter story, I read it in one sitting, and it’s a twisted and sexy look at the original fairy tale – and an entertaining read. The romance was a bit quick and a little unbelievable, but this is a fairy tale. I will definitely be looking forward to more in this series. Reviewed by Cyrene

What an enchanting twist on Little Red Riding Hood. Wolf, Lord Hugh de Bar was cursed and turned into a wolf at night. Red, Lady Winifred Chaserton is the granddaughter of Earl Roland Chaserton of Taverstock who is responsible for the curse on Wolf. Red sneaks out of the castle and comes across Wolf while he is in human shape. Telling her a story of how her grandfather is responsible for the curse of Hopi. And his family, Red is determined to find the truth. When Wolf uses Red tipi draw out Earl Roland, magic starts happening and the two are brought together by a mutual attraction. I loved this take on the fairytale that will keep you turning the pages to find out the surprising outcome that holds mystery, magic an even love!

Not as it appears

Winifred freed two men from the dungeons! She saved their lives they were under a spell and became half wolf and one full wolf! Forbidden by her grandfather to go into the woods unless she hunt Winifred has killed several wolves since her parents were also killed in the woods! When wandering thru the woods one night she meets wolf in man form while she is wearing her grandfather clock! He is despised by Stephan, Wolf and his brother Anon! Not clear on how her grandfather could have her hunt wolves when he knows her secrets! This is a tangled web indeed but it reminds me of Little Red riding hood....so it's a charming tale!

A retelling of Little Red Riding Hood but definitely with a twist. There are elements of the original tale but also new aspects that will keep you reading. It did become a little complicated towards the end, hence the four stars. The main characters of Winifred (Red) and Wolf are likeable and I hope we hear more about them in the rest of the series. There are still some unknown factors. However, overall it was an enjoyable read and if you like to read a fairy tale with a modern twist then this book will suit you. I received a copy and voluntarily reviewed this book. This is my honest review.

A very different take on the red riding hood story. I loved it and you will too! Things are not always as they seem in this retelling. The hero is a wolf shifter and not at all like the wolf in the original story. It's a story filled with witches and fairies, curses and magic and of course, romance. This is the first book in the Tangled Tales series and true to its name, there are many twists and turns to be untangled.

A quick story, variation on Little Red Riding Hood. Winifred and Hugh do not realize how much their lives are entangled. Her strength and curiosity made Winifred an enjoyable character. Hugh is a rougher character, but his love for his family redeemed him. This is a fun story.

I received a copy of this story as a gift, and this is my unsolicited review.

Lady and the Wolf

I love how Elizabeth Rose takes childhood fairy tales and turns them into adult tangled tales. I definitely plan to read the rest of the series. I didn't want to stop reading; I wanted the story to keep on going. There is magic, romance, twist and turns. The characters are well developed and the story line flows.

This was okay. Good but not great. The story was a good one but lacked something. I'm not familiar with this author so I don't know if this a first book. It seems as if the writing will improve with time and experience.
