Living on 'England's Green & Pleasant Land', amongst the gentle rolling hills of the Herefordshire Countryside, Rose's house is wall to wall books. She even has a 'leaning tower of paperbacks'.

Rose is a dreamer, preferring a simple & quiet life. Often spending time lone, although never lonely, being ever surrounded by great characters when lost in a good book. She loves theatre and the arts, adoring live performances on stage. Rose has very eclectic tastes.

Working as a school librarian, and sharing her love of books with the children was the best job she ever had. However, life moves on and another chapter was only a page turn away.

Now working in an entirely different library, in Hereford's Wye Valley NHS Trust Hospital, Rose spends her day cleaning and issuing 'Medical Equipment'.

Most days she can be found walking around, with her head in a book or eyes glued to a kindle. (In all the years she has been partaking of this pastime, there has only ever been one accident, when she walked into a street lamp, but then she had been momentarily blinded by the sun. Not that there is a lot of sun in the UK).

Writing for Rose has only ever really been a hobby, something she has done for many years but on reaching the half century she received a book ‘Things to do now you are fifty’ and on that list was ‘write a book’.

Winning second prize in a Daily Bookworm competition for the short story ‘One Breath’, then being encourage by online Facebook friends to enter a holiday DigiWriting contest and winning FIRST PRIZE with ‘The Magic of Grandfather Christmas’ Rose was inspired to turn one of the stories, if not both into full length novels.

Rose also has a little friend, a red golden King Charles Spaniel (Ghost of Christmas Past from the Young Ebenezer series) named Miss Ruby Heart. Ruby loves children's books and can be found on social media as @MissRubyHeart1

One final little secret for you, she has a very serious addiction;
Rose English is a Read-a-holic.

Happy Reading:-)

A delightful treat for children of all ages!

This modern, lyrical re-telling of the Charles Dickens classic -‘A Christmas Carol’is bound to make anyone smile.

Specially designed for families to share during the Holiday Season, or for young readers to try for themselves, this little story has all the markings of a delightful timeless classic.

Clever rhymes accompanied by gorgeous illustrations will not only enchant with a magical tale, but also teach the little ones a little about the consequences of being selfish and unkind. Through a wonderful adaptation to our modern day life, where children would rather stay indoors and play with their iPads or consoles, this little tale reminds them about the simple joys of playing together,
'and having such fun,
caring and sharing
out under the sun.'

Eb is a spoilt child who hates sharing. But he is watched over by a very special guardian – the family’s ancient longcase clock, who is bestowed with magic - Grandfather Time.

It is on Christmas Eve that Grandfather Time decides he must teach the boy a lesson, with the help of his friends; the Ghosts of Past, Present and Future. And this is how young Eb suddenly finds himself on a magical journey, accompanied by a little golden-red King Charles spaniel, called Miss Ruby Heart.

Warm and endearing, this little magical tale will draw any reader in. Young and old alike will find it just as enchanting.

If you're on the lookout for a beautiful picture book for your little one, giveYoung Ebenezera try.

Honest to goodness! It's beauty and magic on a page!

Happy reading my friends
and remember!

Young Ebenezer is fated to be fixed in his ways, until a little Christmas magic and Miss Ruby Heart step in.

I received a free audible copy in exchange for an honest review.

This wonderful short story follows a young Ebenezer - a boy who doesn't share his toys, and looks forward to Christmas with greedy demands.
Grandfather Time - a clock whose magic is threaded through many of Rose English's books; decides it is time to stop Ebenezer's ways before it was too late.

The story is light and warm, the poetical tale pulling you along. It felt reminiscent of the original Christmas Carol and the classic Twas The Night Before Christmas.
The narrator does a wonderful job, really throwing himself into the role, and drawing you along.

I can't wait to share it with my nephew, and I would definitely recommend checking this out as part of your run up to Christmas!

“Young Ebenezer” by Rose English is a modern re-telling of "A Christmas Carol", with a young, spoiled boy as the main character. I love this lyrical story, told as a poem, with its timeless message of sharing and caring. The writing is vivid: “This black hooded figure, filled up the whole room, and the temperature dropped, to that of a tomb.” There’s an illustration on each page opposite a poetry/story page. I bought the paperback for my collection because it’s such a beautiful book.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Young Ebenezer: A New Christmas Carol' written by Rose English.

Read and reviewed for Rose English and Gillari Books.

Publication date: 17th November 2017

This is the third book we have read by this author. We have also read 'A Christmas Carol With Grandfather Time' and 'The Magic Of Grandfather Time' which we would also highly recommend!!

I have got to start by saying this book has hit my number 1 children's favourite book and my number 1 Christmas book!!! I absolutely LOVED the fact that it has a brilliant take on Charles Dickens 'A Christmas Carol' but instead of Eb being visited by three ghosts he is visited by a gorgeous red golden puppy called Miss Ruby Heart, Santa and a Dream Keeper. We are told the story by Grandfather Time, adeptly a Grandfather Clock. This book is such a gorgeous, festive and beautiful book for baby, children and adults alike. One of the things that I really liked about this book and what stood out for me is the fact that it carries several important messages but in a way that is very child friendly. It teaches children that it is important to share, to be kind, to listen, to care and to make amends when they have done wrong. It is also an extremely fun and child friendly version of 'A Christmas Carol' that children can relate too. We all loved the fact that it is a rhyming book which makes it even more fun to read and it is also a great way to help children read. My children had loads of fun guessing what the rhyming words were!! The illustrations are absolutely delightful, eye catching and with loads of objects to point out, describe and discuss with your children. It really is a fun book to read and perfect with Christmas just around the corner. It would make a fantastic stocking filler or Christmas Eve story to read around the tree!!! It wasn't just myself that enjoyed reading it but my 11 year old son and also one of my 6 year old twin boys. It was written in a way that is easy for children and adults to read and we all took it in turns to read a page (my other twin boy is non-verbal, they both have autism). Malaki and Hunter loved looking and naming all the different items in the background. We had loads of fun naming all the different things that the children could see in the photos and naming all the colours. It truly is an amazing and fantastic book and I would say it is suitable for any child from new-born up. This book is lovely and short and can be a quick read or be made into a fun long read whichever the reader wishes. The font is a nice style and size making it easy for adults and children to see and read too which is definitely a bonus as I have struggled with some fonts that authors have used in children's books in the past. I read the paperback version of this book that I got directly from the author. It came stunningly gift wrapped and the book is amazing quality!!! It would be a perfect book for children to be read to by their teachers in school as well as friends and family members. In fact this book should be absolutely everywhere a child could be as it really is just, as we say in Wales, LUSH!!! Let your children's imaginations come alive with this beautiful festive book. I really cannot wait to read more books by the amazing Rose to my children (and for myself) and hope that she is busy writing the next one already!

My 11 year old son Malaki had this to say about this book:

I absolutely loved this fun book. The pictures were really bright and colourful and I thought the story itself was brilliant. I think it is a great and fun way for children to read the story of A Christmas Carol!!! It is a very good story to remind me to be kind and share and to get off my Xbox when my Mum asks me the first time!! My favourite character is Ruby!!! I love dogs and Ruby is so cute and sleeps on Ebs bed like my cat Caramac does!!! I loved reading it to my brothers who are 6 year old and loved showing them the pictures which they liked too.

This book is my absolute favourite children's book and Christmas book in one!!! It is just absolutely gorgeous. To write a gorgeous, fun book with a fantastic lesson to teach children. Welcome to my favourite author club Rose, thank you for doing such an amazing thing and congratulations!!! I cannot wait to get stuck into the rest of your past and future books and here is to your next guaranteed success 🥂!!!

Congratulations Rose on writing yet another absolutely stunning children's book!! I would love to welcome you to mine, Malaki, Hunter and Ryder's favourite children's authors list!!. Here is to your next success 🥂

Overall a beautifully illustrated and sweet festive children's book with important messages. An absolutely stunning Christmas book.

Whenever I read a Rose English story I can imagine the setting and the ideal place to read it. Young Ebenezer would be perfect for a cold snowy day, sitting inside with the children by a glowing fire. Written in clever rhyme, Young Ebenezer is taught the consequences of being unkind and selfish.
With the lovely illustrations to complement the story, this book is a treat for children of all ages. Highly recommended.

I thought this was a unique retelling of A Christmas Carol. What I love most, is that it is a famous Christmas story as the inspiration but set for Halloween. Kind of like The Nightmare Before Christmas. Is it a Halloween or Christmas movie? The poetry was great and smooth.

Bill Schafer has such a rich, smooth voice. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to him and would easily listen to something else narrated by him. He also kept a very steady tempo/pace of the reading.

Fabulously done all around!

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and I have voluntarily left this review.

Young Ebenezer is a rhymed retelling of the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, and focuses on a selfish, spoiled boy called Eb who has much to learn if he is to mend his ways.

I thought it was great fun to have contemporary references in such a traditional piece, and enjoyed the opportunity to hear it in a new light. It was nicely done, and very sweet, and I look forward to sharing it with my nieces and nephews who will love the little dog, Miss Ruby Heart.

Unfortunately, it was let down a little by the narrator, Bill Schafer, who appeared to struggle with the upper class/Victorian English accent that is really the only way to read a Dickens story. As well as being told in a slow, lyrical style aimed at younger children, the narration is often painfully exaggerated and doesn’t sound at all natural, which is a shame because Schafer’s voice has good tone and animation, it really was just the sluggish speed and awkward accent that made it feel uncomfortable.

(The issue with the torpid delivery was overcome by playing the audiobook at 1.20x speed, which made it feel livelier and helped to disguise the agonising deliberation with which Schafer was attempting to maintain the accent. It was much more enjoyable when I re-listened to it at this speed.)

I’d recommend this book to families with young children who would, I think, really enjoy the modern reworking of a classic tale and enjoy the humour in it.

*I received this audiobook free of charge in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Overall: 5/5
This is a retelling of Charles Dickens'A Christmas Carolwhich distances itself from the classic as much as a retelling could. Definitely worth checking out.

Cover: 5/5
Very interesting, indeed. It speaks of magic, of a merciless winter, and the sheer will to get through it. A lesson about life contained within the confines of Christmas.

Writing/Delivery: 10/10
I was originally disappointed because I'm not much for poetry (that's my fault for not reading the description carefully), though I have composed quite a few songs in my lifetime, once upon a time. That said,Rose Englishreeled me in with her beautiful inspiration and rhythm. I ended up wishing it had been longer. This is certainly a gem of Holiday poetry.

Performance/Audio: 10/10
As if English's writing wasn't good enough, we havebill schaferto bring the story truly alive. Production quality was also flawless.
