“Sometimes life can change very fast. And, sometimes, if you’re open to a little trust, that change can be wonderful.
What do you do when you meet a group of people unlike any you have encountered before, when you least expect it? I came here to look at a cabin I inherited from a long lost uncle, figure out how much it’s worth, then put it on the market. Maybe financial gain could perk up my life. The marriage was over, the children had moved out, and questions of, ‘what’s it all about?’ were making my peaceful moments few and far between. But now, everything has changed; I’m keeping the cabin, the beautiful woods and shrouded trails, the morning visits from thankful crows and peaceful bunny rabbits. I’m moving here, giving up my city life and casting my fate to friendly winds. I’ve spread Uncle Hunter’s ashes under a full lit mystic moon, listened to howling huskies pay a chilling tribute, and heard stories of magic dragonflies. A biker gypsy-guru has taken me under her wing and taught me to ride, and she is psychoanalyzing the past right out of me. She’s told me that, ‘If things are happening fast…it’s very much meant to be’. And my intriguing neighbour, he once died on the seafloor off Scotland; saw his own dead body and heard a voice, now he lives his life just the way he wants. This winter, he’s going to help me build kitchen cabinets…and yes, I think I may be in love with him. His best friend astral projects, and his best friend’s wife wants to regress me to lives I’ve lived before, to help me find out who I really am. They all talk about souls and egos and see connections all around - expect good things to happen…and they do. Mysticism and spirituality. Irish monks and hermits. Music, motorcycles and romance. What more could I want? Life is closer; it’s all more real - all more free. Then everything goes wrong, it may even be my fault, but I’m told it’s not. Life has gone wrong before, but this time I have friends. Can I choose to trust? Can I choose…not to be alone?

I have always worked at sea, and stared doing so before the days of video and computers - reading was how I passed the time - I tended towards science fiction and fantasy, but many other genres also came my way. I wouldn't say I've ever read any 'bad' books, they all have merit - but I had the crazy idea, that perhaps i could write one too - plus we all have our own story! If anybody remembers a Commodore 64 computer - that's what I started on, then life happened - I'm glad it did! It gave me much more to write about.

Just a bit about me. II'm married with three grown children, and a great lover of dogs! ( in particular Husky's ) I'm very much do it yourself type of person - If I can do it myself I will, or figure out how to do it - everything from building my own house to working on my cars and motorcycles. Now I've got to fit writing into everything else - but anything can be done! The book I ended up writing has a fantasy ending, but friends have told me it's more of a romance - go figure? If anybody comes across this profile and truly wants a copy, it would be my pleasure to provide one to you - don't know if this is acceptable - but what the hell!! If you do friend me - I'm not going to recommend my book to you - That would be intrusive! I am, if nothing - polite!

PS - I'm not on Facebook and I don't have a cellphone - please don't judge me if I don't do everything right out here in cyberworld - I'm just learning ( LOL ) Thanks! I've started a blog somewhere around here too! Cheers and have a good day!

Wow, what a read! I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed reading this book. I wasn’t sure if this was something that I would even want to start. But I decided to give it a chance and it did not disappoint!
Melissa is divorced with grown children and lives in the city. She has just inherited a property in the country from her Uncle Hunter who has recently passed away. She takes two weeks off of work to go check out the property, get it ready and put it up for sale. Upon arriving she is surprised to see that it is a nice log cabin with lots of land and includes all of Hunter’s assets. What she doesn’t realize is that she will also inherit all of his friends too.
Not long after arriving some of Hunter’s friends start showing up to introduce themselves and meet Melissa. I really liked Regina and Jake. They are very friendly, fun and want to help in any way they can. When she ventures into town to pick up some supplies she meets Matt, Twigs and some others that knew or were friends with her Uncle Hunter. As the story progresses Melissa becomes friends with all of them and they introduce her to motorcycles, riding, what they believe and how they live.
I was very intrigued by the story and all the characters. I have never ridden a motorcycle and found everything to be interesting. It has a mysticism and spiritual vibe to it with how the characters live and what they believe. This also was something new to me and now I want to know more. There is also a touch of romance that I am hoping is going to turn into something more. By the end I was thinking I would love to have friends like this, live in the country in a log cabin and buy a motorcycle!
The author did a fantastic job with the writing and the intriguing characters. I was drawn in from the first page and was left wanting more by the jaw dropping end. I can’t wait to read the next book in what I hope is going to be a series.

Leaves me with questions.....

I just finished reading this and I’m trying to find the right words to describe what my thoughts are about this book.

************* SPOILER ALERT *****************

Right when I started reading, I was hooked. Cabin, solar and wind power, off grid living, art studio, motorcycles, nature, and trying to figure out what you want out of life. Okay, good. I want to read more. These things made me feel like this book was written for me! WOW!

There were times I was trying to figure out where this book was headed. I was not sure I was into all the DEEP conversations people were having in this book. It was a tad weird, and then I thought that maybe I just don’t have enough deep, meaningful conversations... but are there that many people that do? I don’t know. But I went with it, I allowed my mind to accept that this was perfectly normal.

*************** MORE SPOILERS! *****************

Then the book heads somewhere totally off kilter and it’s nowhere near NORMAL. It’s a fantasy novel in hiding and I did not see unicorns coming at the end of this book.
UNICORNS? An alternate realm? What the heck is happening?
I’m not sure I liked the way the book ended. I was also always confused as to where these people were. Where are these cabins? What big city is Melissa working in? What state are they actually in? There is some seemingly UK language in this book, and references to British motorcycles. More confusion when I don’t know where this book takes place.
I liked the book well enough to keep reading it, but I wish the questions I had while reading had answers, as it has me unsure about the book.
I gave it 4 stars. I rounded up my 3 1/2 stars.
I enjoyed it even though it left me questioning things.
And the sneak peek into book two causes me to have more questions! I need things to be settled in my mind from the first book before I can read book two.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Melissa got a cabin from her uncle Hunter. She meets her uncle's circle of friends, and they end up becoming her friends. She falls in love both with the cabin and the people. She also finds a love interest (but they act very shy, almost like kids lol). During her stay, she learns more about her uncle and his beliefs, loves, hobbies, and spiritual practices.

This book has a great storyline, but really needs a lot of cleaning. I wanted to know more about her parents' issues with her mom being an alcoholic and how that affected Melissa. I would say the story, for me, was a solid 3.5, but I gave 4 stars to encourage Darryl to keep writing. I would definitely have it edited some more and I think the story could do well.

I loved this. I am never likely to ride or own a motorcycle but reading this put me in the saddle. And so much of Melissa's story made me want to yell out, oh yes, I know that feeling! And then the discussions about different life experiences. There was enough there for two books, and I know I will read this again so that I can take the story more slowly and chew over the ideas. (I tend to rush on my first read through.) My father and his twin were both in the Royal Navy in WW2 in different oceans. My father was in his hammock and woke choking on water; the ship was sinking and he was panicking. Only he wasn't. My uncle had just been torpedoed at that exact moment and indeed, was in dire straits and likely to die (he in fact survived). That and other experiences have always made me wonder where science will go next in terms of such experiences. We haven't begun to explore that side of life yet. I look forward to the next book, and I love the tickle of a love story. I have a heart like marshmallow.

I truly enjoyed Darryl's book - it is an unusual mosaic of happenings and an unexpected concoction of events connecting yesterday and tomorrow. It contains three short words the book rotates around. Three short words that may help any reader understand who she/he really is - LIFE IS CLOSER. Please don't miss it...
