A sworn enemy of the Prince vows to eliminate his Followers.
Until the Prince saves his life…

For generations the Noble Knights have been in service to the King. Following a strict code of conduct, they preserve the peace in Chessington, the King’s chosen city, and rule its citizenry. Sir Gavin is a young and promising Noble Knight, devoted to King and Code.

Then a peasant disrupts the tranquility of Chessington, brazenly challenging the Code while claiming to be the son of the King–a Prince. When it is learned that he is actively training a force of men in defiance of the law, the stranger is arrested and executed.

But his Followers continue to defy the Code, and Sir Gavin swears to destroy this threat to Chessington–until he himself is grievously wounded in battle. As he faces his own death, Gavin is saved by someone who will transform his heart and change his life…

Journey to Arrethtrae, where the King and His Son implement a bold plan to save their kingdom; where courage, faith, and loyalty stand tall in the face of opposition; where good will not bow to evil–and one brave man stands against the Dark Knight.

My favorite book in the series! The story of Paul in the Bible has always been one of my favorites because the redemption arch is so beautiful!

Characters:
Gavin is the main character of this story, and I love him. Black does a great job of laying out where Gavin's heart lies and why he thinks he's doing the right thing. It's honestly so beautifully done.
I also realized as I reread how much one of my characters from a current WIP has in common with Gavin....which was totally unintentional...lol...
As always, there were great and then not so great side characters as well! The not so great ones just being mean characters...lol...

Themes:
Redemption. No one is too far gone or to evil for God to change and turn to Him. I love that message so much!
Also themes of the damage of pride and what happens when we stop asking God what He would have us do and simple do what we, as humans, determine to be His will. That never turns out well.

Romance:
N/A

Language:
N/A

Overall:
This is a spectacular and beautiful story! I enjoy it so much every time! I highly recommend the audio of this one as well. At the end, Black's daughter sings a song, and it just ties up the whole story and moves me tears every time. I pulled the song up on YouTube last night when u finished the book just so I could have that satisfying ending.

The allegorical story of Paul and his salvation...it was moving and helped me to see the story of Paul and and a glimpse of what his life could have been like before his experience on the road to Damascus. Honestly I never really *got* Paul's story, though his words in the Bible have helped me more than on one occasion, but hearing Gavin's story as a parallel to Paul's opened my eyes to see what it must have been like for a man who sought out the lives God's people to do them harm and then to have a change of heart so completely! Absolutely amazing - Praise the Lord for the work He does in all our hearts!

"'Look into my eyes, Gavin,' the Prince said. 'I have been calling you. The peace you seek you will find if you follow Me.'"

This book was my favorite book so far in this series. It was well-written, beautifully filled with truth, and real. Saul was a horrible man. Yet, God used him unlike any other, transforming him into Paul. This story holds that same message of unbelievable, supernatural redemption gorgeously.

I really loved this book and look forward to re-reading it at future times, as well as reading the next books in this series. This series is definitely getting better! I am glad I held on.

At last I feel mostly at ease with a book in this series. The writing has improved but that's not the greatest advance. This is an allegory of the life of Saul aka Paul the apostle. Within that context, the savage sword fights and violent single combat works - at least generally speaking. I'm still uncomfortable with the 'Jesus figure' wielding a sword, even if he does simply disarm others with his magnificent skills. I wasn't quite comfortable with the 'Stephen figure' wielding a sword either.

The 'Jesus figure' - the Prince - is portrayed throughout the series in the way that the people of first century Judeawantedthe Messiah to be: a warrior. But it's exactly what he wasn't. And it didn't seem right to sweep up Stephen, the man who served at tables, in this same schema of a soldier rather than a servant.

However these parts of the story are relatively minor. And fortunately not too intrusive.

To see fire-breathing Saul as violent, however, is not twisting the story at all. Thus the character of Gavin is not only appropriate but is drawn with sympathy and thoughtfulness.

These books are getting better or I'm just getting more intrigued by the story. This book has really made the story of Paul come alive to me and has filled me with a passion to follow "the Prince" and live for him everyday.

The Author of this book is Chuck Black made in May 15th, 2007.
The level of this book is a 7.3 Level book, The book was about Gavin who is a Noble Knight in Chessington, and the Difficulties he goes through in this book is incredible.

This bounced back from the lows of the last two in the series. The story of Paul was solid. A lot of the issues with the miracles could be avoided, and the author has the chance to get more grounded in the history of the church instead of trying to imagine the unimaginable beauty, grace, and power that was the incarnation.

The writing is still awful. I'm trying to read this aloud to my kids, and the dialogue is wooden, stilted, and awkward. His phrasing is off putting and difficult to work around. Many, MANY, times I find myself just saying the word that makes more sense and moving on. My wife never even noticed, and when I tried to explain why the books were difficult she hadn't known any of this.

This story was well-written, not dumbed down, but clearly written for young adults.

Unfortunately, since it is allegorical in nature, the author leaned more on the message of the story then developing characters and plots. Therefore, it read a bit more juvenile.

But I enjoy stories of knights and medieval timeand I thought the author had an interesting take on a Biblical story.

Quick read.

Again, this book was very easy to read, and was easy to follow and entertaining.

I love that Chuck Black puts questions and discussion questions at the end of each book to help the reader further understand how his story symbolizes stories and characters in the Bible.

The way he blends, and changes perspectives of characters in this story was absolutely genius! I enjoyed reading this book.

Happy Reading!

A very well written book! This is the fourth book in the Kingdom Series, by Chuck Black, and is based on the story of Saul in the Bible. Sir Gavin (Saul) is a Noble Knight, part of a order created to keep order in Chessington. (Israel) He is zealous for the King (God) and the Code. (The Law) A mysterious peasant challenges the Noble Knights, and claims to be the king's son! (Jesus) This is conidered treasonn, and he is betrayed and hanged. But his influence grows even more after his death. Sir Gavin ruthlessly perscutes all his followers until the Prince saves his life

The fourth book has an amazing as the first three. The faith, friends, adventure and the changing of lives are awesome. It is like the stories from the bible are in a timeline that is on another level. I think it would be best for teens because of the bloodshed, drama and other thing that are not for little kids.

I thought this was the best in the series so far. It continues into the early beginnings of the book of Acts, the martyrdom of Stephen and Paul's transformation. Of course, like the rest of the series, this is done through symbolism.

A challenge with accomplished

It can't be easy to allegorically change the events of an amazing man's life while still maintaining the truth of Scripture, and yet make it equally exciting and adventuresome. The author has accomplished this very well.

Gavin is a top knight for the kingdom. He learns along his path that the code he has been enforcing may not be the true Code. After one of his trials he learns what the true Code is and is taken into the Prince's army to ensure that the true Code is followed.

I only read the first 10 chapters, and I completely lost interest in this book.
I feel like this book might interest other people, but it's just a no for me. Don't get me wrong, the first few chapters were great, but the others weren't.

Very well-written, but almost too parallel to the Bible, while having too much poetic licence to be a completely accurate interpretation thereof.
