“He, Jesus Christ, as Son of God is also Son of Man, born at Bethlehem,
participating in His essence in every human capacity and every <
human weakness. He is a child and contemporary of His age and
environment. In His action and experience He is one of many in t
the great nexus of humanity. He is subject to the particular Law 3 which governs the life of Israel. He also participates in the alienation
from God, the curse and burden and mortality, the character as flesh
to which human essence has fallen victim, and from which it cannot
escape of itself. The Son of God suffers-the final extreme is also and
primarily true of Him-He was crucified, dead and buried. With
concrete reference to Jesus Christ, this is all to be said, not of a man
called Jesus who was different from God, but of the Son of God who
is of one essence with the Father and the Holy Ghost. For all this
is an event and true and actual in Jesus Christ as the real participation
of the Son of God in human essence.”
