And no, there isn't any extraterrestrial alien in the book, one of the characters, Claire is just an opinionated Brit on a randomly chosen get away. Her views do not always go down well, but then Alan and Joe find that they quite enjoy crossing swords with her. Maisie, of the thistledown hair, is drawn into their circle and what evolves is a tale of friendship and support. Like any experience with others in life - explore it enough and common ground can be found!...more

A young man decides to join the Marine Corps just of high school. It seems to be a some what spur of the moment decision and the author is thinking back on his life so far as a storm is developing. His basic training is the background as he develops what will surely be a lifelong friendship and a romantic interest. The military gives him the opportunity to develop the knowing that he is here to help and be loyal to others. The romantic element isn't resolved and no doubt it will be a subject for further writings. I liked the way the author moved the action along during basic training, but felt the personal relationships could have been given a bit more fleshing out and physical character descriptions- then again this is only part of the story and if it is ever expanded I'm sure this will be accomplished. The ending is excellent as the storm abates and the author is pondering the future. He is starting to know who he really is ( and that's what part of life is about - learning who we are! ) - and as he matures, I look forward to his farther explorations of 'self'. A solid 3.5 stars out of five and i have given it 4 to encourage the author to keep writing!...more
