My least favorite in the series so far. Unfortunately this didn’t hold up the the previous books mostly because I’m tired of all the back and forth and because of the inconsistency and repetitiveness.
“He’d clearly been much more than a broken AI who liked to verbally assault his customers, and sometimes poison them.”
We are four books into the series but have come nowhere. The relationship between Adam, Victor and Zee is progressing but only extremely slow. As soon as something positive happens between them something ruins it and they need to find each other again. Ariana manages to justify why it takes such time for them to come to terms with the fact that they like each other. But this have been going on for four books now. Because the books are so short you are tricked into believing that it isn’t that long, but in total we have now been through 720 pages and we are still stuck in the beginning and only 2 weeks(?) away from the beginning of the first book.
“How do you get a dick out of a ketchup bottle?” Zee’s unmistakable voice piped up.
When beginning this series it was (and still is) one of the best things I’ve read, but I don’t feel it with the latest book anymore. Everything is beginning to feel to repetitive. The main characters are trying to live their peaceful lives while running SOS Hotel but there is always something bad happening. They can’t get a single happy moment and it’s honestly a bit boring when it goes on for so long because it’s not a surprise anymore. A character get kidnapped and saved. They try to stop some shady business, get in trouble and then solve it. Every book is the same just focused on different characters. So much happens in these books that it makes you feel that things progress but in truth it’s just more unnecessary conflict being built up. I have read 720 pages in total yet the characters don’t know what to do with their feelings for each other, Adam have just begun telling them who he really is and I still don’t know how they will resolve all the problems they have with all the enemies they have acquired throughout these books.
“But this fae wants my cock for face creams, Adam.”
Lastly I just want to mention the inconsistency. Adam is working full time to keep his real identity intact, doing everything from lying to deleting footage and information about himself and sometimes even killing people to keep it safe. Yet on numerous occasions now he lets people who know he’s something else than human go free. Why? I don’t know. He have had chances to kill these people yet he doesn’t even though they can be a threat to him in the future. And I don’t understand it. He wouldn’t save Zee from Sebastian because he didn’t want to reveal his identity but he wouldn’t kill Agatha even though she suspected him to be something else. Why?
“His face kind of contorted, lips turning down. Wait. Were we still laughing or was he having some kind of emotional seizure?”
I don’t have a lot of positive things to say because I didn’t really enjoy reading this. In the first book I loved Zodiac’s overwhelming personality and Adam’s straightforwardness. It was really enjoyable to follow and see whether Victor would be someone we could trust or not. But now I just feel annoyed because the characters doesn’t change. The story continues to repeat itself over and over. The same conflicts come back and just isn’t solved.
“Know that I’ll slaughter everyone here, if you wish it,” he whispered. “Give the word, and rivers will run red with the blood of any who would dare cause you harm.”
Ariana Nash is one of my favorite authors and I’ve read all of her books, giving them all from 5 and 4, and on some occasions 3 stars. Sometimes her books hits just right and sometimes they don’t and I like that about her writing. That she is able to create such vastly different stories and characters. None of her works are the same and you just have to admire her for that. Unfortunately this was one of those books that just didn’t work for me.
(At least the quotes are still quotable.)
“Razorsedge is so much easier,” Zee declared. “All I have to do is get my dick out and everyone’s happy.” His head tilted, face turning thoughtful. “Maybe I should try that here?” “Definitely do not do that.”

The beginning of the book was very intriguing but then it just went downhill…
I think the main problem with this book that it’s trying to tackle an extremely horrible experience in a very shallow way. Sen have grown up with homophobic parents and have been trough conversion therapy, so understandably he is traumatized from it. In the beginning I think the book does a great job in explaining Sen’s experience. But it’s after he gets closer to Kai that things just get too shallow. The book never deal with Sen’s trauma in a satisfactory way. It’s like the author wanted an easy way out and took Sen’s trauma in a very light manner.
Another problem I have is that the romance is very fast paced. The characters don’t get that much time together and what we do get to see feels rushed. There is barely any build up, and when the characters have gotten to know each other there aren’t any moments where the reader can understand why they fall in love.
I like the idea of this story, but it could have been executed in a better way. The characters are likable, albeit not that memorable, but they are enough to carry the story. The story itself is intriguing and I will stick around to read the next book....more

So I have both good and bad things to say about this book. One of the bad things was the messy beginning. You are thrown into the story immediately and I didn’t really like this because I barely understood what was happening. I get that Alba was leaving in search for his mother, but what I didn’t understand was why she left in the first place. It was never explained why she needed to leave.
I didn’t enjoy the beginning of the romance, it was possessive and did feel real. Eridanys’ uses his siren powers to call to Alba and invade him mentally so Alba would get drawn to him, so how can we know as readers whether the feelings were genuine. They slept with each other while Alba was drugged out on Eridanys powers as well which wasn’t were fun to read. But as their bond deepens I enjoyed it more since there was no magic at play anymore, Alba’s feelings felt real towards the end.
I believe I would have liked it more if I had enjoyed the romance from the beginning and if things had been explained more properly.
The good things about the book are the way the book was written. The author’s writing was so smooth and beautiful I was immediately impressed. I also like the story overall, it was an interesting read with light but interesting world building. Kellen Graves really nailed the dark atmosphere/horror vibes which brought so much to the book.
I really liked Eridanys battle with accepting that he liked Alba, it felt so real. You can clearly see how his ability to trust and express his emotions progresses over time!...more

Alex could potentially be in danger since he is Luke friend and Luke is the mate of the crown prince of the fey, making him an attractive target for anyone who wants to oppose the monarchy, and for some reason Cair and Luke asks Teighan to guard Alex. You could think that since Cair is a prince that he would have guards at his disposal to be able to protect Alex, but apparently not, because he asked Teighan if he could take time out of every day for weeks to go and check on Alex. They know that Teighan doesn’t really like Alex, yet they ask him to guard him, despite knowing that Teighan is way to loyal to them to say no. It’s just such a rude thing to do.
My opinions about this book is more or less the same as it was for the first. Lazy beginnings, problems that’s solved way to easily and lazy attempts at climaxes. Although, a lot more happened in this book which I enjoyed, and I feel like their relationship was a lot more interesting and eventful than Cair and Luke’s were. I like the paring and don’t have a lot to say about the romance otherwise. The story was good enough to rate three stars but there are things that really bother me in this book, like how easy the problems are solved. It’s annoying and nice at the same time how nothing seems serious. I can appreciate a book that’s not very angsty and that have a soft and chill plot. But at the same time it annoys me because it’s not that interesting to read.
!spoilers!
I don’t understand why that blue haired boy was included in the story. It was such a lazy attempt at drama it could win a prize. It didn’t bring anything to the story except for more pages I had to sit through. I guess the point of it was so Teighan could come to Alex rescue but it was just so lazy and it didn’t feel like the author took it seriously. I get that Alex is this care free person but I think anyone would panic by getting kidnapped, but apparently Alex couldn’t care more. Teighan also always rescue him after a few pages which make the whole ordeal boring.
They put a lot of weight on how a horrible person Cair and Teighan’s father is, how he wants both of them dead if he could. The problem is that it’s impossible to kill them basically. The royals can’t kill each other, the royals can’t hire anyone in the kingdom to kill any of them because of some spell, and the royals can’t hire someone outside of the kingdom because the reason they aren’t part of the kingdom is because they hate the royal family so they would never allow themselves to be hired by any of them. So their father hates them enough to kill them but he can’t. Do you understand why I think this book is lazy? The author try to create suspense but instead of actually making Cair and Teighan’s worry for their father a part of the story she writes it off in the most boring way possible....more

The series was good overall but not one of my favorites. I don’t really know what to think of the end. It wasn’t bad but I can’t help but feel underwhelmed. And with every day that passes, you will get back a little piece of yourself.”
I listened to this book and while listening I enjoyed it, but when thinking back at it I can’t really say that it’s good. The biggest problem with the book was that nothing happened. Since I listened to the book I was never really bored since I could do other stuff while listening, but I realized while I was listening to it that I would never have gotten through it if I had sat down and read it. So I’m very conflicted in how to rate this book because I didn’t suffer through it while listening but at the same time I wouldn’t have liked it if I had had to read it.
The book is hundreds of pages long yet if someone would ask me to summarize I the major events I would barely have anything to say since nothing happened. It was towards the end that tings began to get more intense. But I mean things did happen before that it was mostly just letting us meet the characters and letting the characters meet each other and creat a build up towards the climax in the end. It gave me some Sarah J. Maas vibes in how unnecessary long this this book was, and also how most the book is just the characters interacting. I don’t really have a lot to say about the characters, there wasn’t really anything special about any of them. Although I enjoy them a lot more than the characters in the Mortal Instruments, so that’s positive I guess.
So far the only Cassandra Clare books I’ve read are the Mortal Instruments and that wasn’t one of my greatest read, and although this wasn’t that good either I still have to say that I found this book more enjoyable....more

IMy rating for this book was all over the place though the story. Some times if felt like giving it 1 stars, sometimes 2 stars and sometimes 3 stars. In the end I ended up on three stars but that was mostly because it was concluded in such a good way.
“How pathetic could he be, to believe that a master could truly love his slave? There was no world in which someone who owned another could also see them as an equal.”
I don’t normally enjoy captor x captive romance because I think it’s problematic and you will need to shift the power imbalance enough to justify the relationship in the end. But I actually think this book did a very good job at that in the end. And that was mostly the reason why I more or less enjoyed it.
While the characters are still captor and captive I can’t enjoy the romance fully since I don’t think that the power imbalance is justified. And since I don’t know how it will end I simply can’t enjoy any of the ‘romantic’ moments. The problem with this was that the power imbalance didn’t shift before we were almost at the end so the whole romance wasn’t that enjoyable to me throughout the 500+ pages. Plus, I absolutely couldn’t stand Agnar. I hate when the person who got the power in these situations act so whiny and feel so bad for themselves when the captive tries to escape or doesn’t see eye to eye with the captor. Like what did you expect? That Magnus would just be your captive for the rest of your life while you had this really toxic and unhealthy relationship?
“But that safety meant little without freedom. A kind owner was still an owner, and Marcus refused to be owned.”
I really did like Magnus though. He was such a reasonable character and the way he acted throughout the book felt so real. First he was smitten by Agnar’s kindness and fell into the Stockholm Syndrome trap. But he realizes through the story that the relationship they have isn’t good and that this isn’t something they should do. And I think the author does such a good job of portraying Magnus’s internal battles against whether he should do this with Agnar or not.
“The truth is that you cannot love me as a man and keep me as a thrall. You fear me running away, yet I have had a thousand chances to leave. I stayed for you. Because I let my heart grow fond of you even though I knew it was a mistake. And in my stupidity, I continued to believe that this would work. “
“Do you not think I love you?” Agnar asked. “Do you? This is me. The real me. Not the captured soldier or the disobedient thrall. Just me. Will you still love me when you can no longer order me silent or keep me trapped inside the village?”
Just listen to Magnus being defiant!
Overall, the story was pretty boring, so even though Magnus is one of my faves and the end was good it’s not good enough to reach more than three stars. I wasn’t a fan of the writing and there happened to little in the story. I’m also a bit disappointed that we spent so much time on the beginning of the relationship and the drama where they barely spoke with each other for a hundred pages, instead of spending more time lapping together their relationship after Magnus’s release. I would have liked to see more of them rebuilding something that had been unhealthy and making it into something healthy and likable....more

I really wanted to like this book to the end since I liked two thirds of it but towards the end it just faltered for me. Overall a hard book to get through because of how raw it was. The entire first 100 pages was just sexism (and basically the rest of the book was also sexism) and for the first time in my reading career I found a book that really triggered me. It was just so hard to get through the beginning and it was also hard to get into the story because I needed to stop and calm down. Soon I abandoned the book and it just lay there but I was still interested in the book (because look at those ratings) so I decided to just listen to it instead and that went better. But in the end I didn’t really like this book, it just wasn’t for me. I didn’t really enjoy the story that much and the cooking show which I had gotten the feeling this entire book was basically about didn’t happen before much later in the book. I had just gotten the feeling from many reviews that this book was some sort of feel good, feminist book that would leave you feeling inspired but with all the death and the downtrodding on women I couldn’t enjoy it.

I absolutely loved the story in the beginning and the writing is just so beautiful! But then things just started to go downhill, it became dragged out and it just made things to complicated.
I don’t know how to feel about the romance because after a point it just stops progressing and becomes more of the same we have had about a hundred times already, sex. There are a lot of sex scenes and although I like a few sex scenes in a book it just becomes annoying if it’s to many, it doesn’t matter how much I like the couple, is still don’t want to read pages upon pages of them fucking. And thanks to this book I will never be able to hear the word “mast” without thinking about a dick. This author is really out here saying “his dick was at half mast” when referring to someone’s hardening dick. And also “releasing a spray of sea foam” when referring to someone coming. It’s just cringey to read, please stop.
I don’t like romance at the end of the book because all the way to the end Fiore questions Enzo’s motives. He feels like Enzo will discard him or grow tired of him even though you can clearly see that Enzo would never do that. And I do understand why it can be hard for Fiore to believe that Enzo means good seeing how he is a low born sex worker and Enzo is a duke, but in the end it feels like it doesn’t matter what Enzo does. Fiore will still not trust that Enzo actually likes him. Enzo will and does anything for Fiore, but it’s just never enough. He feels so ungrateful.
!spoilers!
My main problem with the book is that it makes things overly complicated. After the ball Enzo and Fiore are about to confess their love for each other, but instead of following the extremely good plan the author had already set up, he decided that Fiore was going to get kidnapped instead. I don’t understand what the point of it was except to just lengthen the book since it served no purpose except to cause more problems for our main characters and let Fiore get his revenge. Revenge is good, but it could have been done in so many other ways. At that point I was ready to give up but in now way will I dnf a book that I’ve already read 400+ pages on, so I forced my way through. The only reason I give it three stars is because the first half of the book is good and the writing is just so beautiful.
I also don’t understand this author’s obsession with hurting his characters and writing pages upon pages with them lying in bed, healing from nearly dying. It happened four times! Like why? What was the purpose?...more
