There’s a type of writing that enables traveling between different worlds. The possibilities, infinite. Amazingly beautiful worlds, decadent ruined ones, and even worlds that defy the impossible.
This is the story of Atrus, Catherine, and their efforts to find survivors for the reconstruction of D'ni. Also their visit to Terahnee, a paradisiac Age full of fastuous palaces, untold riches, and marvelous attractions. A seemingly perfect utopia, but hiding terrible imperfections.
This last entry was a very good novelization, fast paced and gripping, yet sadly not as good as the previous two. The third and last book of the series, working as a mid between the events of Myst 2: Riven and Mist 3: Exile, and chronologically afterThe book of Atrus.
Of the trilogy, my least favorite. Some parts were lacking, and others could’ve used a bit more depth. The big revelation and ending, which I never saw it coming, was brilliant but felt a bit too forced and rushed for my taste. This was very entertaining and enjoyable, yet not as much to be Recommendable, although it came very very close.

There’s a type of writing that enables travelling between different worlds. The possibilities, infinite. Amazingly beautiful worlds, decadent ruined ones, and even worlds that defy the impossible.
This is the story of Ti'ana, grandmother of Atrus, and first woman outsider to ever enter D’ni. Her encounter with Aitrus, father of Ghen, and the antagonism with Veovis and A'Gaeris, which eventually led to the destruction of the whole D’ni civilization.
Loved young intrepid Ti'ana, adventuress of the unknown, and her slowly unfolding relationship with Aitrus; a good enemies-to-lovers always gets my motor running. The friendship/enmity between Aitrus and Veovis was believable and excellently portrayed, and the introduction of the devious A'Gaeris was masterful. The slow chain of events that culminated with the destruction of the D’ni civilization was very well executed and amazingly captivating.
This book was a perfect novelization. Unputdownable. The second book in the series, but can be chronologically read as the first, since it works as a prequel toThe Book of Atrus. This was absolutely absorbing and riveting. The best book of the series by far. Highly Recommendable, for the right audience.

There’s a type of writing that opens the door to different worlds, you only need a special kind of paper, the right ingredients, and the perfect technique. The possibilities, infinite. Amazingly beautiful worlds, decadent and ruined ones, and even worlds that defy the impossible.
This is the story of Atrus, raised by his grandmother Anna, learning from childhood the ancient art and culture of the D’ni that enables travelling between worlds, his first encounter with Catherine, and the terrible battle against his unscrupulous father Ghen, who would stop at nothing to abuse his power.
I loved little Atrus investing and taking notes about every single thing around him, earth, minerals, animals; his insatiable quest for knowledge, and everything else that followed.
I have very fond memories of my childhood playing the Myst games, loved them all, specially #3 and #4. Visiting all those beautiful varied worlds, the lore, the plot, the near impossible puzzles. Gaming perfection, they don’t make them like that anymore.
This book was a great novelization, working as a prequel to Myst 1, with the background story of Atrus, Catherine and Ghen. Excellent. I don’t think you need to play the games beforehand to understand the books, but sure helps appreciating them a lot more. Recommendable, for the right audience.
