The bees actually care for the baby and become his kind of guardians. Loved it, such a heartfelt story of a family who come to care for the strange child and their lives together.

Set in America in the 1920's the father of the girls always wanted a boy so his wife became a baby making machine but only gave birth to girls, whom the father hid away.
Just like in the fairytale the girls sneak out to dance away the night. Love it a great twist on the old tale.

This is a wonderful eclectic mix of stories for the festive season. I have laughed and cried through several of these tales. 'August in December' was one that stood out for me, along with 'Christmas at The Little Blu Bookshop' (Blu is correctly spelt just check out the story)
I loved the final story 'The Last Christmas ' but feel a little disappointed that I have to wait until next year to find out more.
***Some of the other stories in this wonderful anthology are also prequels or part of new books coming next year. This is why my score is 4* I would have liked to have gone immediately to more books by these talented writers. Worth checking out but will leave you wanting....more

I was excited when I learned about this forth coming novel, especially as the main character is a massive book lover like myself. Books about books with a touch of romance are always very appealing and I am a big fan of all the books of this talented author.
I loved the character of Charlotte but what stood out for me was the beautiful storyline of Charlotte's brother and his husband. Well worth checking out....more

I loved the opening to this story, a couple are missing yet the car is still in the drive and the house locked up from the inside. Police are called to investigate and when they learn the man of the house was an author they discount his notebook as a simple work of fiction
"I hope no one reads this because that means I’m dead."
The story builds at a nice pace then POW! It all kicks off, and boy it was disgustingly horrific. I felt rather nauseous. I had to put it away to read through the day and far away from the bathroom.
It has got a touch of the cross genres about it, although very clearly horror. It had a touch of mythology and the mention of a kind of Mexican folklore passed down about an ancient God experimenting with creatures and all life on earth then tossing away the failures.
The title tells us 'It lives in the basement' but It is so much more than that. Well worth a read....more
