First of all there is no story in the book and no connection to the original fairytale of the sleeping beauty. If the book was called The Claiming of Cinderella or The Claiming of Frankenstein's Bride, I don't think it would make much difference. Moreover if Lestat appeared in a scene spanking the Sleeping Beauty again you wouldn't notice. Still the writing style is flawless and this is a huge plus....more

This is another totally dark and twisted story that involves kidnapping and forcing and pet-play. No experiments this time, but a completely forcing in changing of the main character's way of life. Towards the end the reality and the fantasy are totally distorted and unclear. The story is given by the girl's POV. I wish we had also master's POV, because I felt he was watered down and he was lacking a strong personality....more

Yes, please....
There are so many wonderful reviews written about this book showing the different perspectives of the story that I am really not sure what my review could add.
In my opinion it is a wonderful story about two orphans who keep fighting against the wrongs of the world, who love each other deeply, who lost each other at some point and who found each other because they are soulmates. And once more it is just them again surving against the world.
There is NO other woman/ other man - only disruptions. And there is not split affection of the girl between two love interests. Only manipulation from one hand and pure unprocessed love from the other hand.
The twist that happens in the middle of the book was almost expected. And for me it was welcome.
Seriously who should I prefer? Cocky Darkling?
“Did you tell him, Alina? Does the boy know how willing you were to give yourself to me? Did you tell him what I showed you in the dark?”
Or
Desperate Mal?
“Did you miss me, Alina? Did you miss me when you were gone?” “Every day,” I said honestly. “I missed you every hour. And you know what the worst part was? It caught me completely by surprise. I’d catch myself walking around to find you, not for any reason, just out of habit, because I’d seen something that I wanted to tell you about or because I wanted to hear your voice. And then I’d realize that you weren’t there anymore, and every time, every single time, it was like having the wind knocked out of me. I’ve risked my life for you. I’ve walked half the length of Ravka for you, and I’d do it again and again and again just to be with you, just to starve with you and freeze with you and hear you complain about hard cheese every day. So don’t tell me we don’t belong together,” he said fiercely. He was very close now, and my heart was suddenly hammering in my chest.“I’m sorry it took me so long to see you, Alina. But I see you now.”...more
