I do like that it does break down some of the more famous spells that Dr. Strange has used like the Crimson Bands and the Shield of the Seraphim and it does explain a little bit about the various enemies the Doctor has fought over the years but I wished it focuses more on his villains and the lore as the spells are neat but nothing amazing. But still a nice read. with some cool visuals and good info for fans....more

Like the history of the Deviants and the Eternals which I knew a little bit about but his provided so much more info it also went into more obscure history like the fact that Shield started off as a cult with members like Newton and Da Vinci. Or the history of the Black Knight. It even goes over how the Black Panther and Wakanda got started with their war with the Originators. It is a great book both for Super Fans but also for those trying to get into the comics and may need a history lesson to understand some of the more complicated lore like the Celestial Hosts and the various Pantheons....more

It does a nice breakdown of where Pullman got his inspiration from granted it does look more at other novels that Pullman was a fan of and explain what ideas Pullman used from those books. I do like it does talk about the Gnostic influences on the series which is a subject most people do not know about....more

Lewis' reasons for how and why he wrote the Chronicles of Narnia books and I do like it does discuss how religion influenced the series but also how his friendship with Tolkien may have also been a huge influence on his work. They also bring up Lewis' other works like his essays to show how he thought as he was writing the series....more

And I also really like that it talks about his early ideas like how Tolkien originally wanted Bilbo to be the main character again and how some of the names were changed around. I do like when we learn about the early ideas of a story as it shows how the writer eventually landed on the current form of the story. The inspirations David discusses are more then just discussing Tolkien's love of mythology but also into Tolkien's personal history and philosophy....more

It goes over a big chunk of history from the Revolutionary War to about the 90s. And I do like that it prefaces that the information in the book is based on a mix of facts, urban legends, and witness statements. It does use historical accounts to back up the information presented a little to much at times since some of the eyewitness statements are long and take up the bulk of some of the chapters....more
