And the inclusion of another type of magical being. There are a group of seemingly unrelated events that get pieced together to tell a different story and I liked the journey to get there. There are some big magic scenes and it was good to see Nightingale use some of his talent. Also curious about his name now. There's a Russian Night Witch, the River God's and Goddesses', more of the faeries (whatever exactly they are) and so much more. The police work is good and enjoyable. This is a fun series to listen to, this wasn't my favourite volume for reasons I cant spell out due to spoilers, but still good!...more

If its a pretty woman he doesn't care about anything else. His lack of investigative skills is highlighted without having Leslie present to balance him out since she is sidelined from the events of the first book. I am hopeful that there will be more of her in the future books though. The things I do love about Peter though, are his experiments and want to learn more about how magic works. I also enjoy his humour. I love the descriptions of London, it makes me want to go back even more. I like the world that is being created. I wanted a little more resolution with the bad guys than I got. I loved the idea of Jazz Vampires. The who was killing musicians was so painfully obvious for so long, I wish more had been done there. The narrator is a lot better in this one, not so breathy and distracting so that helped with my enjoyment. Overall a good second book in the series and I am intrigued enough to continue...more

Also that one sex scene was well, awful and I dont know how you move on from that so quickly. Yes it made sense plot wise I still just wish it wasn't there. I had most of it figured out too early even though I wanted to be wrong. I do love the side characters, particularly Peabody. My least favourite so far, it just didn't hold my attention as much as I would like....more

This was such an interesting book to listen to. Told between Ruby's past, including the crimes she actually did commit, and the current where she is fighting to clear her name in the death of her husband. This format worked well. We got to see how Ruby became who she was in between seeing what was happening. Ruby is a psychologist who also loves animals. Just because she happened to help some bad people along to their death doesnt mean she's a serial killing sociopath... right? This book does its best to prove that. I enjoyed the narrator and the story, I did assume a bunch of the twists correctly but it was still good. Also done well was the treatment of diabetes and the hardships that can cause on someone's life. Good book, worth reading and would definitely read other books by this author in the future....more

I had my suspicions about the murderer throughout and was not surprised by who it was but enjoyed the getting there. Eve has her wedding to get ready for and needs to clear her best friend of a murder charge. This makes for a pretty fast paced kind of plot. We get more of Eve's background in this one, as heartbreaking as her past is. She also is opening up to people more and I love seeing her not so alone in the world. She has found her place and her people and will protect them. Roarke, I still want more about. Yes he is rich and so sweet to Eve and her people. But I want more of what makes him tick. Peabody is entertaining and I like that she was getting more page time here as well. Same with Feeney of course. Its the side characters that make these books so worth it....more

When you love someone, you have to be with them, don't you? To be part of their life, to have them be a part of yours.
Yeah I was pretty certain who the villain was early on and I wish that hadn't been quite so obvious. Beyond that though it was such a good book. Eve grows so much and seeing her learn how to relationship was fun. We were introduced to Peabody who I have heard from others is a main character and I quite liked her from the little we see her in this one.
Was there anything more astounding or more frightening to a man, he wondered, than a strong woman in tears?
We have strong women in this series and I love it. This one also shows its okay to lean on others sometimes that doesn't make you weak.
I'll happily be continuing with this extremely long series...more

It was a good book, uncomfortable to read at times but good. The author takes on a very unpleasant topic to start this series off with the rape and murder of women. Parts of that, while well done, were more detailed than I needed to read. As for the mystery itself and the who did it, I had parts of it figured out before hand but I liked seeing it unfold. I do wish the romance had taken longer to become the I love you stage but I did like both of the main characters well enough even if Roarke is a little stalkerish.
All and all good book, glad I finally got around to reading it and I will try the next one and see how much further I get....more

Parts of it were fascinating and it was difficult to put down a lot of the time but its definitely twisted and I can't say I completely enjoyed the ride. These characters are all terrible beings with twisted motives for everything. I did like the idea of them having to redo the road trip that went so wrong 20 years earlier. I have no words....more
