Yes, I get that this was intentionallyslow burn, but the execution really was not it. We had so many choppy scenes where we were shown irrelevant scene after irrelevant scene... the first half dragged on for AGES. And when the MCs finally formed a "bond", it wasn't worth it and both bc both of the MCs sucked.
The FMC's POV was so annoying to read from. In an attempt to be humorous, the word "poop" was repeated a million times in the book. The FMC kept talking about her Big Girl Socks and slutshaming other women. And why did she ALWAYS call Kulti "the German" (or some other German word) instead of using his name?? That made me so uncomfortable.
ALSO despite this book being sooo long, I can confidently say that I still know NOTHING about Kulti (nor do I want to). Why did his previous marriage end? Why did he get a DUI? Did he hurt the FMC's brother on purpose and why? WHY WAS HE SUCH AN ASSHOLE TOEVERYONE(yeah, including the FMC!)?...more

It felt like it wanted to be both an angsty romance and a fun, banter-filled romance (which COULD mesh well, but in this book it did not), then by the end it wanted to be a mystery… honestly wasn’t that into this and but it ended in a cliffhanger so I might still read the sequel....more

Because of that, this became more of a 2.5-3 for me, but it could have been a 3-3.5 if it just stuck to the main themes.
The writing also threw me off for a bit and made it hard for me to connect with the characters, but this was my first non-fantasy historical romance, so maybe I just wasn’t used to it!
I don’t think I’ll be doing a full review on this one, but I might come back to add some of my favorite quotes bc there were a lot of really great ones here....more

So if you enjoy any of those tropes, I’d recommend this. But the rating’s a bit low for a few reasons. I’m going to go through some of the tropes to explain a bit.
Pretend-grumpy x sunshine. I found both MCs to be pretty likable (even lovable at times).MMC was a Pretend-grumpy-but-was-soft-on-the-inside shy boy who bakes bread and makes jam, is a fantastic businessman, and is a lawyer on the side. FMC is the sunshine character who loves working with kids, is a girl’s girl, and doesn’t take care of herself because who has the energy to make healthy meals?...more
