I really wanted to love this one sinceI was one of the BIGGEST fans ofTo Kill a Kingdom... butThe Night Huntdefinitely fell flat for me.There was justtoo much storyin here that made every other aspect of the book feel lacking. Now, I know it sounds like a good thing to have a jam-packed story, BUT HEAR ME OUT. I think what ended up happening here was that the author focused too much on incorporating as many events as possible into the story thatshe wasn't able to give any attention to the other aspects that should have driven the story forward, such as the characters and the world-building.I'm just going to give a brief rundown of what worked and what didn't. WHAT I LIKED ⭐ I did appreciate the story for what it was. If you're into adventure- or quest-type stories, then you might enjoy this one. A LOT definitely went on, and it was nice to have a little taste of different mythical creatures and scenarios as the story progressed. ⭐ The general idea of the characters -- a big YES for me. I love myself a cast of characters with completely different backgrounds. The Night Huntalready gets bonus points for giving us monster girls and boys alone, despite their lack of personalities -- which brings me to the things I didn't like... WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ⭐ Good god were these characters super dry. The main characters felt like they were written for a much younger audience (or this could be a sign of aging for me) with their insta-love and cringe-y banter. I couldn't differentiate any of the side characters, and they were too conveniently thrown into the mix. I.e., there really isn't a lot of character development. ⭐ There was little to no world-building. The authortriedto incorporate some, but it was done... not-so gracefully. I can't tell youanythingabout this world, because I amstillconfused about all of it. ⭐ The writing style was just NOT for me. It came off very juvenile sounding. I might have appreciated this book more if it was marketed to a younger audience, but given how dark this was supposed to be, I expected a LOT more maturity from it. Basically: I didn't enjoy this as much as I would have liked, BUT I will still continue to read from this author because I do love the concepts she brings to the table. Thank you to the publisher for the review copy! ...more |

DNF @ 30% I couldn't get into this one at all, which is why I won't even be rating it. I felt immediately from page 1 that I wouldn't enjoy this, and I was right -- the writing's too juvenile for me. There is, however, one quotable quote that I need to highlight: On a particularly cold day, he stepped outside, shivered, looked up at the sky, and declared, "I'm not made for this" before wandering back into the house. Hilariously relatable, but also, do you get what I mean about the writing style? ...more |

Okay, I have a confession to make: The main reason why I couldn't enjoy this book was becausethe humor was totally lost on me.I know so many other people found this book to be really funny, and it kind of makes me sad that I didn't. At all.Maybe this means I'm mature? MUAHAHA who am I kidding!? WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ♥The heroine annoyed the heck out of me.I honestly can't believe Clara's just around my age. She made me feel really old and all grown up which I'm notat all.She was spoiled, bratty, and cocky as heck. I know she's branded as a prankster and is meant to be a little immature, but I rolled my eyes so hard at her jokes--they were all just flat-outweird. In said heroine's defense, Claradidrealize her bitchiness at some point in the novel. Shedidgrow, but I still found her to be immature by the end of the book. Baby steps, I know. ♥The writing style and plot were really juvenile. To make this clear: I love making sarcastic comments just as much as the next person; laughing isgreat. But this book took jokes and pranks way too far, to the point where they crossed the boundary fromfunnytoWTF just happened. It just wasn't for me. ♥I wasn't a fan of the main hero, Hamlet.Or his romance with the heroine. See, Hamlet was sweet and adorable, but he just wasn't fleshed out enough for me. He felt a bit one-dimensional, like all he could do was tricks with a sign board and get coffee. His attraction to Clara also happened really fast, which, we all know, I am not a fan of. WHAT I LIKED ♥The family dynamics were fabulous!I loved Clara's dad. I definitely got the Asian feel from him, and he was just really charming as a whole. I loved how much he and Clara clearly loved each other (although it took Clara a while), and how they did things with each other in mind. I'll admit, I did cry at the end from all the family lovin' ♥The friendship aspect was realistic.Do you ever get the feeling that you're just not as close to your other friends anymore when you find new ones? Clara does. And it's fine with her. Things like thistotallyhappen in real life, and I'm so glad this book shows that it's okay. ♥FOOD TRUCK CULTURE--HELLO!I did mentionhow I think books with POC rep need to talk about food, andThe Way You Make Me Feelsucceeded in that with flying colors. I loved learning about how food truck businesses work, plus it was fun to read about Clara's dad's foodish creations! *mouth waters* - Actual Rating: 2.5 stars - More reviews and bookish madness: Book Blog|Twitter|Bookstagram|Pinterest|Bloglovin' ...more |

Erm, well. I’m pretty confused about my feelings towards this one. On one hand,I loved the realistic representation of family and friendship(the heroine has a solid girl-friendship that reminds me so much of my own BFF). On the other hand, the romance was way over-done, and the real-world issue about Muslim hate took a bit of a backseat. Actual rating: 2.5 stars // Full review soon! I'd have "Unless you can magically pull tape out of your" --wait, we were still at school-- "ear." I wish I had a dollar for every time I rolled my eyes. I'd have a million dollars. One of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to contemporary novels is probably when the book is either a.) a formula book, b.) a compilation of all the high school stereotypes ever, or c.) full of forced dialogue. The Dating Debatewins at all there. We have our typical "sassy" hero and heroine (who are, in fact, notactuallyfunny),with a weird-ass relationship I can't wrap my head around. One minute, they're cold as heck, and the next, they're attracted to each other?? SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME. Of course,we can't have a formula book without a bajillion high school stereotypes!Just take a look from these snippets (these are from the ARC and might change in the finished copy): No way was I going to talk to the fashionistas. It was just your typical YA fantasy--and triedtoohard to be that, if you ask me. The heroine Zera constantly made these not-really-funny side comments and comebacks that didNOTappeal to me. And why does the voice of the "hunger" have to be WriTtEn liKE tHiS?! IS IT A MEME!? So yeah, the writing and characterization obviously didn't do anything for me. That's not all!I also really disliked the hero and the romance.Lucien was, again, your typical YA douche, and their romance happened in a span of two weeks. Was it attraction/spark at first sight? I can't even remember. But I do remember cringing every time they interacted. Whoops. Anyway, the concept was fine, and I did appreciate the effort. I can also see that this is a book other people seem to love--maybe the humor really just isn't my style. -- More reviews and bookish madness: Book Blog|Twitter|Bookstagram|Pinterest|Bloglovin' ...more |

Suspicion - This book has a pretty unique, fantastical, kick-ass plot that'll make your head go crazy trying to dispatcher what's real and what isn't. It's more of a magical realism novel of sorts, with a hint of mystery thrown in for good measure. 2. Boredom - Okay, can we please talk about the info-dumps? Because Holy Grandmother, this book is FULL of them. You're going to gethugechunks of science-y (in which my brain would like to explode)/medical/story information in a single go, and if you have a short attention span like me, you may or may not fall asleep. 3. (Possibly) Indifferent - The writing's really conversational and easy to read in this one, but personally it sounded like it was trying a bit too hard to sound natural and funny. The humor was COMPLETELY lost on me. But there were lots of lovely quotable quotes if you're into that kind of thing. 4. Pride - Our heroine Natalie is a Native American who's open-minded, is against slut-shaming and is generally what a female lead should be. She's realistic, and isn't that "special snowflake" character we all know and love and want to strangle. 5. Frustration - Because the instalove here is just a big no-no. And also I can't stand it when the heroines let their love lives consume all their time, and that's basically what happened here. OH, and their relationship is just so full ofI want yous... And for me, the phrase turns intoI want to puke. 6. Love - The family love in this novel just makes you want to give out lots ofXs andOs andasdfghjkls. It has the kind of family where you just want to join everyone in one, big, adoptive group hug! (Especially near the end--the family dynamics there definitely made me cry!) 7. Confusion and/or Mixed Feelings - Because that ending. Eurgh. I stil dont know how to feel about it. It was both brilliantandshitty at the same time. Edit: Actual rating is 2.5 stars. Instead of torturing myself further, I finally decided to give up on this book the second I finished the 103rd page. I'm surprised I made it that far, and I definitely have no regrets. Within thosemiserable--okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, butI did NOT enjoy anything I read AT ALL--103 pages, I managed to: a.) encounteran elitist heroine whose hair I wanted to pull off so badly. [image] Stella was a bitch, really. I mean, who the heck tells someone that their music is crap? I'm all for being opinionated, butthat's just straight-up asshole bahavior. And she lashed out on all the boy band membersbeforeshereallygot to know them, only because she hated their music, which is pretty snobby. And rude. b.) mentally puke because of theextreme insta-love.I'm not even joking here when I tell you thatStella and Oliver kissed withinhoursof meeting each other. That's after she went all your-music-is-horrible-and-I-don't-get-the-hype on him just a few hours earlier. Nice, girl. Nice. c.)make my eye twitch because of the characters' immaturity levels.Let's take note that these characters are probably around the age of seventeen, and while food fights arefun,we still do have to consider the fact that they arepopularcelebrities and realistically, should act more maturely. Ketchup eating contests? Really? Throwing food at each other? (Okay, that last one does sound kind of fun.) d.)want to poke my eyeballs out because of the supposed "humor"in this book. The humor was so dry, bland, and mostly just trying too hard.If anything, I was laughing because of how idiotic the whole book was turning out to be. e.) cry in frustration because of the completelyunrealistic plot.Come on, HOW CAN YOU NOT RECOGNIZE AVERY POPULARCELEBRITY WHEN YOU MEET ONE? Okay, fine, that's actually possible, butthe heroine goes out of her way every few sentences to mention that she HATES the guy's music, and her sister collects magazines with his face on it, and yet she doesn't recognize him. That just proves point A, right? [image] Deadly Darlings|The Social Potato|The Book Geek|Twitter|Instagram ...more |

This book had an amazing premise, and Ashley Mansour's such a sweet person, but unfortunately the book just fell flat for me. Generally, here's what I thought: Likes: - All the bookish quotes! This book had an amazing collection of fantastic book-related (and non-book-related) quotes that you would want to highlight. - Lovely idea. It's obvious that a lot of thought was given to creating the storyline. - There was a lot of taking care of family. Dislikes: - Fast-paced romance. It's borderline instalove, really. I may have gagged a lot. - Inconsistent characters. One minute they're tough as a rock, and the next they're sobbing and asking for their mommies. (Not really, but you get the point.) - Odd pacing. This book was really long, and yet I thought that a lot of the scenes were rushed. - A sort-of love triangle that really didn't make any sense. It hurt my brain. - Info dumps. Full review soon. ...more |

Map to the Stars, according to the Thesaurus of Aimee, is synonymous to the wordno. There was just nothing in this book that stood out or made any sort of impact on me--except that it made me want to throw this book across the wall. Let's put it this way: 1.) We havea butt-annoying heroine whose mouth I wanted to staple shut. Her "sass" just didn't cut it for me. Said "sass" made her sound like a little kid who has no knowledge about the world of mature teenagers. She was also incredibly ignorant and (mostly) judgmental. 2.) There was thiswhere-the-heck-did-that-come-from insta-attraction.What I mean is, the two main characters already felt "tingles" when they touched, "shyly" stared at each other and went on a lunch date during their SECOND meeting. Oh, and did I mention that they spent their FIRST meeting screaming at each other? 3.) I was rolling my eyes because of all theexaggerated "romantic" feelings.I'm okay with your regular, ohmigod he thinks I'm cutesort of thing because that totally happens to us all in real life, but ANNIE. She creeped me out with statements like: "I blushed from head to foot." Please, elaborate for me. I want to learn about how this is possible. "Okay, so I might be about to die, but I was going to do so holding hands with Graham Cabot." WHERE ARE YOUR PRIORITIES, GIRL? 4.) Annie and Graham were both INCREDIBLYhot-and-cold (and basically inconsistent) characters. One minute they're making out, and the very next Annie's going, "Graham's behavior was total bullshit." I just... really could not with these people. 5.) Who the heck nicknames the girl they like as PICKLES ?It's not cute. It's definitely not sexy. And it honestly doesn't even make sense becauseGrahamis the one who doesn't like pickles. Despite all those things, I really salute Jen Malone and her attempt to write a light contemporary. All the developments didn't happen until the last 10% of the book, but I appreciated it nonetheless. While this book was definitely not for me, I'd still recommend it to readers who are looking for a quick contemporary read, reminiscent of teen romance films, and are okay with the nickname "Pickles." So, what makesyouwant to throw a book in a river? Is it: a. When the wishy-washy heroine is a total idiot; b. When the love interest's creepy as fuck; c. When there's a horrible case of let-me-ditch-my-friends-for-the-new-guy instalove; d. When there's 95% more telling than showing; or e. When you finally realize that you don't give a shit about the mystery? Well, dear friends,Idefinitely wanted to throw this book in a river.(And yes, I did answer all a, b, c, d and e!) I read and enjoyed Natasha Preston's novelsSilenceandBroken Silenceback when she was still an unpublished Wattpad writer. I guess that's what made me do a little happy dance when Sourcebooks sent me a copy of her newest book. Unfortunately,it just wasn't my cup of tea... At all.Like, not even a little bit. First and foremost, I just couldn'tstandthe heroine.Scarlett was one of the most naive and annoying heroine I've read about in a long time.Come on,she revealed her past to the new guy on page six.PAGE. SIX. Oh and yes, let's talk about the romance. Really, I can't put into words how much I wanted to hurl into my mouth. Let these lines speak for themselves: The guy standing beside Mr. Wells's door was gorgeous--like,shouldn't even be at our schoolgorgeous. (pg. 1, ARC) [image] Whatever was going on between us was real, and I was definitely not ready for that. (pg. 28, ARC) [image] It was me and him, probably about four years older than we were now, standing outside a beautiful wooden house, surrounded by a meadow. (pg. 35, ARC) [image] The love interest himself was pretty creepy as well. I know it's probably because of the mystery, butno. This is the type of creepy that teenage girlsshouldn'ttrust--hell, at one point he even noticed how many times the heroineblinked.*shudder* I really couldn't get into Preston's writing in this one as well.It was choppy and rushed--sometimes we could even switch settings three times within one 4-page chapter. It was just incredibly telly and had almost no showing. There was an entire major scene that was just told inoneparagraph. I could probably continue the book just to find out what happens in regards to the mystery aspect, but I really don't want to. Words cannot properly express the annoyance and frustration I felt after finishing this book. I actually felt the same way towards the the end of thePaper Townsmovie (I haven't read the book yet)--as if the whole story was all for nothing. It wasn't apointlessbook, per se, but I definitely think the end lacked proper closureand will probably leave a lot of readers unsatisfied. Maybe even pissed if you're oddly emotional like me. I think the main reason I couldn'tfeelthe book was because I didn't like the writing style. At all. The book was written in a very John Green-esque fashion--flowery writing, teens who think deep thoughts and all that jazz. Maybe it's because I'm a shallow reader, butthe characters were driving me crazy, and not in a good way, either. The main characters were way too "eccentric" to be realistic, and that made it so hard for me to relate for them. It sucks that Ishouldbe able to do that, being in high school and all, but insteadI felt like throwing rocks at their heads throughout majority of the book!Call me a warfreak, but it's true. Dave, if we're being honest, is an ass.I can't tell you why without spoiling the book, but yes, an ass. A big one. I legitimately want to slice his head clean open. Morbid, I know. But the main problem lies with Julia.Julia, the manic pixie dream girl.Let me list down some of the many problems I had with her: a) She's such an elitist. She felt like all the "regular" people who did "normal" teenager things were way down below her.She felt like she was up on a fucking pedestal and that they didn't deserve her attention. b)She's manipulative.I honestly felt like she was just playing around with Dave's emotions. I don't like him either, but Julia didn't have any right to do that, especially since they're best friends. c) She's hot-and-cold. This sort of goes with reason b). Julia sometimes acts like the perfect best friend, while sometimes she's sort of missing. I appreciate that Adi Alsaid tried to go against what was expected of the book, butthe ending made no sense.I was kind of like, "Whoa whoa whoa! Hold up. What the heck is going on?!" And yes, I guess in a way I sort of felt cheated with the way things ended. Like I said, it just didn't make sense. Overall, definitely not my kind of book. I just couldn't deal with the emotional stress this book gave me. Deadly Darlings|The Social Potato|The Book Geek|Twitter|Instagram ...more |

I'm af More reviews and bookish stuff onDeadly Darlings! So I just came back from attempting to pump life back into my brain after this book fried it. I'm afraid it can no longer return to the way it was before. Some of the things in this book just can't be unseen. This book was basically a paranormal romantic movie gone awry.It has all the cliche aspects down perfectly, but done in a more gag-worthy manner. Such as: the heroine who isThe One.And is, unfortunately, literally referred to as "The One." a failed harem of "hot guys." You don't know how much Avery pined for each of the three guys. It was painful to watch, especially since each of the guys had crappy personalities. a villain who spills out his entire plan upon the heroine's request. More on the heroine. See, Avery's a complete nut-job. Andshe acts so immaturely:announcing every time she "defeated" an enemy, demanding "stories with lots of drama" when her love interest clearly doesn't want to talk about it, being obsessed with all the hot guys, healing her love interest before her dad... Also these quotes such as the one below which made me want to shove a fork up her ass: "My knee jiggled in a pee-pee dance." -- is this how we teenagers are supposed to think when we need to take a piss? What even?! And then we have the romance. You're probably going to need a trash can near you to puke on for this. You see,it's just a love triangle... with Avery swooning for other guys on the side. Each of the love interests made me want to hurt someone, as such: Love interest A: The moody-as-shit friend. I don't understand this guy. First he gets all jealous when love interest B starts flirting with Avery, and then the next minute he's telling her that he's never been into her. Love interest B: Your typical YA love interest. He's the kind of guy who likes to flirt but you know you shouldn't trust. Love interest C: Random hot guy. Basically this guy isn't really a love interest, but Avery thinks about his "wide shoulders and etched pecs." Also describing him like this: "Makes all those Hollywood hotties and boy bands look like orcs." But really, it was the main romance that made me want to throw a fit. At first, Avery was pretty much head over heels with her friend, and then love interest B comes along and bam! What pains me the most is that she even mentioned in the book that what they hadwasn'tinsta-love: "I don't believe in insta-love, like in books and movies--but there's something here. Something in you that speaks to a part of me that I didn't even know was there." *cue gagging noises* Oh, and we also have some pretty shitty parenting in this book.Avery's mom was okay and pretty supportive, but she was only there for the first quarter of the book.Sure, she had things to attend to, but doesn't she check on her daughter every now and then? She won't even know if her little girl's suddenly frolicking in the grass with her new lover. And don't even get my started on Avery's dad, who, by the way, puts his lover (who is not Avery's mom) before his daughter. The gist of this review?Crow's Restmade me want to hurl, gag, and stick a fork in my eyeball.Normally this is the part where I recommend the book to people who I think will love it, but I honestly can't think of anyone right now. ...more |

Pe Fans of John Green and Adi Alsaid will want to get their paws onSigns Point to Yes,with its quirky characters and witty-in-an-awkward-way writing. Personally, I'm not really a fan of said writing style, and that was the main thing that stopped me from fully enjoying this book. There were times when the dialogue was just too stiff and unnatural--and so were the characters in general. They just had this really rough flow that mademeawkward as a reader. Despite that, I can say that the characters all had pretty distinct personalities. They may have made some pretty idiotic, questionable and shallow decisions at one point, but at least each character shone, which is a fantastic thing, considering this book is written from three different points of view. First of all, we have Jane, who's a sarcastic and insecure fangirl.I found myself really enjoying her chapters, since I could really empathize with her character. She's incredibly passionate about her fandoms (like us!) and feels pretty lame compared to her older sister, the family favorite. I'm sure many readers will be able to relate to her and enjoy her witty voice. Then we have Teo--holy crap, this guy is just adorable. He's sweet, awkward, and adores his three sisters--total dream-guy material. He doesn't make the best choices all the time, but he manages toaccepthis mistakes andlearnfrom them. Margo, Jane's older sister, is the third narrator. She's bisexual, and I honestly couldn't see the point of her POV. She didn't really add anything to the story, and it felt likeher struggleto comeout was just there for added drama, and served no real purpose. |

Let's see...(view spoiler)[BOTH parties cheated on each other before they "forgot" their memories. I guess that doesn't apply to who they are now, but they hardly dealt with it.(hide spoiler)]Also, both Silas and Charlie ignored each other at random times. 3.Thewhat the fuck is happeningfactor of the book is negative.I totally understand that this book is part of a serial and is technically not an entire book in itself, but it felt like such a huge filler. Lots of the things that happened here seemed unnecessary since almost nothing was explained. The only useful chapters were the first (their meeting, of course) and the last (the bridge to the second installment). Overall, while this book did intrigue me (because nothing was answered), I was shaking my head and rolling my eyes throughout my reading experience. This was not what it could have been... ...more |

Where do I even start? I've enjoyed quite a lot of books with sports and romance mixed together, so I guess I did set the bar high for this book. And, clearly, it was a huge disappointment. All Lined Uptook insta-lust, insta-attraction and insta-love to entirely new levels.Hell, Dallas and Carson kissed during theirfirstmeeting. Wonderful, isn't it? And yes, he did have his hand up her skirt that time! TheI love yous came on pretty early as well, although it was mostly just implied. I couldn't get over how much they loved each other's smell--blegh. "I can smell him. Over the sticky September air, over the chlorine from the pool that is apartment overlooks, over everything." [image] Romance aside, I still can't find much to like about this book.Dallas acted like a whiny teenage girl, getting mad and upset of over the most shallow reasons.Another hot-and-cold character that didn't work out for me, sadly. Carson could've been an okay character, but unfortunately, Dallas had him wrapped up around her finger. He was way too enamored with her and I just couldn't understand why. The romance took over the whole story. There waslots of potential for lots of father/daughter lovethat wasn't fully explored. There were a couple of scenes where I loved Dallas' dad and their relationship, but it could've had a much bigger role in the story.Dallas and Carson also each had their own hobbies (dancing and football) that weren't given much of a spotlight. The writing wasn't for me, either. There was a lot more telling than showing--Carson and Dallas often had these completely random heart-to-heart talks where their dialogues were entire full-length paragraphs of their lives. Some words and phrases were repetitive, and while that might not bother some, it bothers me. So I don't know if I'll be trying out another Carmack book in the near future. Probably not. ...more |

Update 03/28/2020:I really want to get into reading Rick Riordan again. Is The Trials of Apollo any good? -- 10/09/2015 Guess who's a very grumpy camper Update 03/28/2020:I really want to get into reading Rick Riordan again. Is The Trials of Apollo any good? -- 10/09/2015 Guess who's a very grumpy camper? *points to self* In my own little world, I've always told myself that Rick Riordan can do no wrong. Okay, fine, I sort of hatedThe Blood of Olympus, butThe Sword of Summerwas supposed to be a fresh start--it was supposed to be the book that would put Riordan back up on my mental pedestal. Well, I've been fucking let down, Rick. I'm sorry (and sad) to have said that, butit's true. This bookwasjust nowherenearthe level ofepicnessI was expecting.Maybe it's because, after ten (eleven if you countGreek Gods) books of kick-butt Greek and Roman mythology, maybe I was just expecting too much. The main thing that made it unenjoyable, at least for me, was its similarity to the original Percy Jackson and the Olympians books, maybe with a little bit of Harry Potter mixed in as well. Let's break it down, shall we? "I did not want to be the harbinger of the wolf. I wanted to be the harbinger of ice cream, or falafel." 1.)Magnus's voice sounded exactly like Percy's.I mean, if you asked me to guess which lines were whose, I wouldn't be able to answer. I might've been okay with it if the sarcastic humor worked with the story, but somehow it didn't.There was just something a bit more...juvenileabout the writing style, and it worked with 12 year-old Percy, but not 100% with 16 year-old Magnus. 2.)All the other characters were just so predictable. As with PJO, inThe Sword of Summer,we're given a hot-headed female who's clearly the most mature in the group, some really quirky sidekicksand sassy villains.Notice that I said sidekicks and villains as plural nouns--that's because there're more than one of each, andthey all have the same psyche. 3.)The plot was your typical Rick Riordan storyline.See, other than his mid-series cliffhangers,Rick'sbooks mostlydo just follow a formula plot.It hurts me to admit that, but yes, it does seem to be the case. You can practically guess the ending without evenstartingthe book. 4.) The mythology twists?I call bullshit at the word "twists"--I wasn't surprised at all. We've got really obvious villains, which sucks because they were actually unexpected in the original PJO series. But with this? It's basically spoon-fed to us. SPOON-FED. 5.)This book felthorriblyinfo-dumpy.I NEVER FELT THIS WAY ABOUT THE ORIGINAL PJO SERIES. I'm not even sure why I felt that way with this book... Maybe it's because most of theNorse mythology facts were just inserted (forcefully) into awkward dialogues in huge chunks, and I honestly had trouble following along. I CAN'T REMEMBER A THING, AND IT'S ONLY BEEN A DAY. Phew. So glad I finally got that off my chest. Anyway, despite my ranting, this book wasn't horrible--there were still some quotes that made me chuckle(especially those lovely chapter headings that we all know and love), partsthat made me immensely sad, and parts that made me root for the main characters. And, as usual,Rick's books are just so easy to read. Oh, andbonus points for diversity! We have a Muslim demigod as our main heroine (I still don't understand how she's both a Muslim yet a server of the Norse gods), as well as an adorable deaf elf as one of Magnus's sidekicks. And with this, I conclude that I didnotlove The Sword of Summer, but am hoping for a 200% energy boost for the sequel when it comes out. Please make it ten times better. Thanks. -- Actual rating:2.5 stars -- Aimee, Always|Twitter|Instagram ...more |
