I honestly thought I wasn't going to enjoy this book as much as I did but I devoured this and couldn't put it down. I loved all of the characters and the 3 generations of females with their life journeys was perfectly portrayed.
There was so much going on in these ladies, past, present, and future that while reading, I never reached a point where I felt that the story lulled. So many decisions to make...so many heartaches to live through...so many past nightmares to try to find the light.
Mary, Autumn, and Taylor are such strong women who battle life's demons from a few wrong choices and try to take the brunt of their problems on their own shoulders. I was amazed the strength of these women and the choices they made.
Definitely one of my favorites so far this year!...more

It has been such a long time since I have read one of Ms Godwin's books and I took a chance with starting back up with this genre. I didn't want to lose my love for her writing style and the excitement I used to feel when hearing her name...
And damn...I started to feel that I would have to put this down because of how pissed off I was getting and how dark the book seemed to be...
Ugh...I can't even...I got hooked, line and sinker! I couldn't put this down and HOLY SHIT!! I can normally guess the plot twists but this one? I wasn't expecting that! FLOORED and soooo relieved!
Bennett, Ashley, and Priest were the perfect characters and Ms Godwin developed them from the first to last page!
I am in awe and will continue to feel that excitement every time I hear "Pam Godwin"...more

It wasn't difficult to guess ahead of time who the murderer was but there were some times that I seconded guessed it....more

I will not continue to read the rest of the series since I read some reviews of the coming books and Steve continues to be a total dick so I think I will just take the ending of this book and make that "my happily ever after"
The closest thing I can think of comparing this book with is smoking crack...you know it's bad for you (want to stop reading the more pissed off I got) but just have to take that next hit (continue to read). I had to know what happened with Ginny (which I really loved her character and how she developed throughout the book) She definitely went from a spoiled bratty kid to a strong female lead.
Ginny definitely saved the book for me and I was satisfied with the ending....more

My Thoughts - Story
I really had a hard time starting off with this story. There were so many times I wanted to put it down while our characters were in the East….I know now that after finishing this book that this was done as a build up to the travels to the West where magic and so much more await our cast of characters (good and bad).
Once the story got going, though…I freakin LOVED it!! From the time they set sail for the Dark Shores…I was hooked – line and sinker. I can honestly say that I see this story as being an EPIC win for 2019. Actually…I would REALLY like this to be made into a TV series or movie! I can say this could be as big as other fantasy shows out there!
Now, the characters…I LOVED Teriana and Marcus! What a team they made!
I just can’t wait to get more of their story and all of the other characters!

Again, I was lost in the pages with these characters that were developed perfectly...the world building spot on and the writing...I can only compare it to prose...it was smooth, flowing, without any holes!
Perfect book...and the ending? Is it open for more? Maybe a new spinoff?

I had the honor of proofreading this story for Ms. Wright and I found myself constantly getting lost in the story that I would forget about punctuation and grammar and then have to go back.
Ms. Wright has the ability to take a subject that I was so sick of and didn't have any desire of reading and giving it her own unique stamp that had me wanting more and more. She can write love triangles where you know who would be the best for Dawn but still root for the bad guy!
So many twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat!
When this was released...I couldn't place the first book in the series, so I had to read it over again and I'm so happyOMG...I am loving this series.

I loved Hal and Lyss...but I would have liked to have more of the Flamecaster characters...
