He’s not making his way onto my list of book boyfriends, mind you. At least not yet. I can’t quite find his traumatized, ocd self with an overdose of daddy issues attractive, per se, but I am… interested. However, I do appreciate him as a person. He’s not quite as evil as I thought he was and he has a well rounded character. I really enjoyed this novella; it was well-written and gave a lot of helpful insight on warner’s character. I’d definitely recommend reading this one in between the first and second books!

there’s an adenamak-sized hole in my chest. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be truly okay again.
my expectations for this book were honestly quite low after the mess (sorry <3) that waspowerless, but I had some hope that it would be better– and of course, I wanted to have my heart broken. But I regret that decision deeply, as this book didn’t just break my heart. It stomped on it and tossed it in a blender.
Despite my mournful state after readingpowerful,I still loved it more than I ever thought I would. It was, as Mak would say, a little piece of perfection (yes, he did say that about Adena. No, I'm not crying as I write this). Seriously, this book was so pure and sweet and beautiful. adenamak are simply the most adorable couple. Mak spent his whole life believing he didn’t deserve happiness, or to smile. but Adena comes along, and being with her gives him more joy than he ever thought was possible. I just… I can’t. I cannot.
The quality of writing here has much improved sincepowerless.I didn’t cringe at all, which makes me even more excited for the second book's release in July. I’m both excited and terrified to see where the plot goes and how Mak will play into Paedyn’s story.
If you enjoyedpowerlesseven a little bit, I highly recommend this little novella. Just make sure to have tissues next to you...more

I’m humbled. I thought I would have the same meh feeling about this as I did the author’s other books, and bought it solely for the cover. but boy, was I wrong. this was just about the cutest thing ever.
the reason that axie’s other books were a miss for me was because of the writing style, and unfortunately, that’s usually not something that varies from book to book; an author’s writing is what can make them well-loved or well-hated, because it has a distinct impression or voice. From my previous experiences with axie’s writing, I knew it to be cheesy and a bit stilted, and frankly incapable of writing chemistry or angst. imagine my surprise when the writing style in this book was not only fun, easy-to-read, and flowed remarkably well, but had a sizzling romance (not in regards to spice, obviously, as it’s YA, but in that the chemistry was immaculate).
sori and nathaniel are both, well, extremely hot characters and their moments actually had me silently squealing and cackling. I say this a lot, because I’m a hopeless romantic and almost anything remotely related to romance will make me pass out, but seriously; it was too good! I felt like I was watching a k-drama. the pool scene?? unwell. I loved how nathaniel didn’t force himself onto sori but waited patiently for her and respected her boundaries. They were such simps for each other and I was eating it up.
I also loved the kpop-based plot. The xoxo band members are all cute (youngmin & hyemi spinoff when??) and it was refreshing to have a protagonist who knew what she was doing and how to handle herself while being scrutinized by the media. speaking of awkward and oblivious characters… what do you know, I liked jenny a lot more when she wasn’t suffering from main character syndrome. She was actually really cute. The platonic & familial relationships in this book warmed my heart– sori had such cute relationships with jenny, hyemi, and her mom. we stan!!
–bottom line: this book really is just as cute as its cover <3

I think we all know the famous saying from jane austen'semma;if I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more. Does that apply to books? Absolutely. Does that apply to this particular book, in my case anyway? Y E S. I've started and deleted more paragraphs than I can count at this point, because I don't know that to say. I don't know if I should rant about the characters and the romance, I don't know if I should make this a needlessly formal review, which I do sometimes.I don't know if I should focus so much on the aesthetic that it doesn't even matter what I actually say, which I also do sometimes.I don't know if this should be a cute, sad, happy, bittersweet or angry review, because this book made me feelso many freaking emotions.

౨ ♣️ ৎ marissa meyer slays literally every genre, from fantasy to sci-fi to dystopian to now, thecutest contemporary romance duology ever.this was one of my most highly anticipated releases of 2024, and it did not disappoint!
౨ ♣️ ৎ there is a very small number of ya romance from the boy's perspective, but it worked super well for this one. Jude was a wonderfully dorky protagonist, a junior in high school with a penchant for star wars, marvel, star trek, lord of the rings, dungeons and dragons, and so on- and also with a massive crush on the most popular girl in his grade. he's extremely oblivious that the beautiful, talented girl he calls his best friend could be anythingotherthan a friend, but he was such a simp for her when he realized his feelings that it was so worth it.
౨ ♣️ ৎ the romance was so sweet and cute. best friends-to-lovers always has this innocent, adorable quality that I love. marissa meyer writes romances devoid of lust and too much angst andno, I repeat no, third act breakup!ari was an amazing character and I would have loved her perspective, but it might have robbed the book of the slowburn because she was definitely in love with jude from the first page.
౨ ♣️ ৎ one of my favorite things about this book was how it completely rejected the usual tropes; the you belong with me complex, where the girl the guy is pining after is actually a rude snob. this girl was super sweet and kind and even a little dorky, she just simplywasn't right for him.it was really refreshing to read about!
౨ ♣️ ৎ the one complaint I have though, was while the sibling relationships were adorable, marissa meyer committed a grave literary crime in that area. listen, sibling donotcall each other 'sis' or 'bro.' no siblings actually do that (edit: my apologies, mostsiblings don't do that). please stop having characters do it...more

I want to crawl inside this book and stay there.
Sorcery of Thornsis just one of those books. The kind that makes you believe in magic and quells your longing for a world better than this one, only to freshen the pain once you remember that it’s not real. But it’s worth it for the feeling you do get from the time spent within the pages. When I say fantasy is my favorite genre, this is what I mean.
This book takes place in the kingdom of Austermeer, in which six great libraries that house grimoires, magical, living books, are located. That’s right, magic books! Right off the bat, I was entranced by the booksy, cozy, enchanting setting. But the books aren’t just fun-loving; sometimes, the books turn into dangerous monsters called maleficts.
The sorcery in this book had just the right touch of whimsy. I loved the idea of demons being the givers of all the sorcerers’ magic. And of course, I loved the magic books. Going to one of the great libraries is now on my bucket list. The worldbuilding was a little vague but it basically felt like Old England culture and the aesthetic was just impeccable.
The writing?? I have way too many quotes in my quote section and so many more I couldn’t include because it was justthatgorgeous. It wasn’t overly flowery but it had a subtle kind of beauty that made everything, from the dialogue to descriptions to action, an absolute joy to read. There wasn’t a single time I felt myself cringing or questioning the wording of a phrase or doing anything other than literally aching from the loveliness. I don’t know how margaret rogerson has so much talent but what I would give for a fraction of it...more
^^ these are what this book contains, and when you add a dash of magic and stir it all together, you will have my undying love and loyalty.
I read until my eyes hurt. I punched my kindle. I almost started crying just because I love the characters so much. This book scratched that itch in my brain and injected serotonin into my veins. I can’t explain it, but it’s true.
Alice Sun and Henry Li (mls!!) are two of my favorite characters ever, and I’m going to scream it from the rooftops until the author writes a sequel, a companion novel, SOMETHING, to sate my need for more of them.
please bless your life with this masterpiece. You won’t regret it.

I could've stayed like that for hours, perfectly content, appreciating the way the afternoon sunlight glinted in Annabeth's hair, or the way her pulse aligned with mine when we held hands.
I would know Annabeth's face anywhere. I love her face.
"Finish your homework." "Yes, ma'am." She nodded, satisfied, and blew me a kiss.
I wrote AC +PJ.
"I have a message for Annabeth Chase," I said. "I love you."
I imagined Annabeth with silver hair and wrinkles, chuckling as she called me Seaweed Brain for the four millionth time in our lives.
