Reasons why I didn't like this book:

- It was dull as dirt
- It was waaaaaaaay too long
- I was so tired of the angst, no matter how justified it was
- Rowan is overrated. There, I said it.
- I fell asleep listening to the audiobook over 15 times. 7 alone for the last 10%.
- The chapters with the witches felt SO POINTLESS. (BTW, the king outlawed magic, but witches are okay? dafuq? Oh well, I don't care.)
- I feel like each book follows the same plot: Celena trains. Celena fights with cute guy. Mysterious monster is killing people. Celena kills monster. Fin.

UGH. I CAN'T.

Sandy Rowan <3

message 4: by Steph (new) - rated it1star

Steph Sinclair I like it okay. I'm not loving it as much as I did Crown of Midnight, but it's good.

message 5: by Reader (new) - added it

Reader I feel the same tbh it took me a while to get into.

Wendy Darling Ohhh, I didn't know you were reading these! Let me know if you want an HOF bookmark that I made. I saw your pining for that other set on Tumblr.

message 7: by Steph (new) - rated it1star

Steph Sinclair Yep! I'm glad I waited so long so I could just dive into HoF. I think that was Kat on the Tumblr.:)

Violetinkpen I my gosh it's been so long since I read these books not sure I can remember one and two to get back into book three. Let me know if it is worth it

Spencer wat, 1 star?:o

message 10: by Steph (new) - rated it1star

Steph Sinclair The struggle was real.

message 11: by Richie (new) - added it

Richie i enjoyed the first book, still haven't read the 2nd, I'm afraid to.. I hope I like it

message 12: by Sandy (new) - rated it5stars

Sandy Such a shame I love Rowan a LOT and I actually liked the witches. But to all their own!

message 13: by Candace (new)

Candace Robinson It took me a little bit getting into the witch stuff, but then I loved it when I finished the book!

message 14: by Nikki (new) - rated it2stars

Nikki This book was so disappointing and I could not stand the damn witches, they were a completely unnecessary add on.

message 15: by Kate (new) - rated it4stars

Kate Copeseeley Long series always scare me for this reason. It has to stay fresh. Good to know, though. Still gonna finish the series, but I am not really motivated to finish it until all of them are out.

message 16: by Nicole (new) - rated it4stars

Nicole "the king outlawed magic, but witches are okay? dafuq?" I actually wondered about that when reading Crown of Midnight. You bring up a lot of good points that reflect the issues I have with the series. I'm going to give this one a read, but I won't get my hopes up too high!

message 17: by Kimi (new) - rated it4stars

Kimi I'm so glad someone else saw the same thing. I did not understand the witch chapters, so I started skipping then because Celeana's scenes were just a tad bit better. Even then I was yawning.

Tiffany I had a hard time with the witches at first, but then I started imagining Manon and her wyvern (Buckbeak? I can't remember all the names right now) as Hiccup and Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon and the whole thing became really cute in my head.:3

Katerina Kondrenko Think God somebody thinks that the witches weren't that needed here. So many letters - so little meaning,

niya rose ⋆˚✿˖° (anakin's version) Yeah I still didn't finish this book. It was so boring sometimes

message 21: by J (new) - rated it5stars

J Mazurek one star though.............. this book was fantastical

Gunjan (NerdyBirdie) The thing I've heard with the witches (I read this book a while ago so I've forgotten) was that they were allowed because the King is using them as their army. So Manon is actually AGAINST Celaena. She's being "trained" or something.

message 23: by J.M. (new)

J.M. Welker I was just thinking about starting this series.

message 24: by Nell (new) - added it

Nell I loved the first book, enjoyed the second book and have been trying to finish the third for months. Guess I wasn't the only bored one!

message 25: by Amy (new) - rated it4stars

Amy aw man one star??? i agree with the witch part but it wasnt ////that//// bad

message 26: by s. (new)

s. Eek. Such a highly rated book, too.

message 27: by Erin (new) - rated it4stars

Erin Dude. I hated the witches. They were so irrelevant. I was waiting for the two plot points to converge, and they never did. And Manon was obnoxious.
I gave this book a higher rating because people got mad at me for hating the first book. I trudge through this series because I don't like giving up on them:P

rafael david Exact same things about this one! I keep thinking that Crown of Midnight kicks the butt out of this one:) and yes, Rowan is overrated (just as this book)

message 29: by Jen (new) - rated it4stars

Jen I totally agree on Rowan. and I SO agree on the witches. Like.. I didn't care about it at all.. like, no.

message 30: by Amine (new) - added it

Amine I'm yet to read this book but wow, 1 star is the lowest review I've seen for this one:o

Cassidy Renner I love this series but I haven't started this book yet:o Now I'm kind of worried that I won't like it as much as the first two.

message 32: by Zuzi (new) - rated it5stars

Zuzi As much as I love this series and I don't mind Rowan, I agree that he is overrated! I just can't really find anything so special about him that would make him shipworthy:D Also the plot in every book has quite similar pattern that's true:) However I really love the story so I hope the next book is going to be a bit different.

message 33: by Jen (new) - rated it4stars

Jen This book is quite different from the first two that's for sure. I wasn't a big fan on my first read of it, as its more about Celeana's journey, but I much preferred when she was interacting with the regular characters like Chaol/Dorian. But I understood why she had to go on this journey.

Melanie This is exactly how I feel trying to finish this! Perfect review.

message 35: by Diane (new) - rated it2stars

Diane Agreed! This book complete killed my excitement for this series. I could not have cared less about any of the new characters and nothing about this story warrants the page length. Such a shame, it was off the a good start with the first two and then just collapsed.

message 36: by Steph (new) - rated it1star

Steph Sinclair I feel so bad for disliking HoF because it has such a strong fan base that I feel like I SHOULD like it. Which is absurd, I know. It's just that I wanna love it as much as everyone else. Alas, I did not. I don't even know if I'll read the next one. T_T

@NerdieBirdie, I understood their purpose in the book and what Maas was trying to set up. I know they are fighting with the king, but it all felt so disjointed. I think I was looking for their plots to eventually meet IN HoF and it didn't. So it kind of felt very anti-climatic and pointless for me in the end. I didn't find them fascinating at all because they seemed so irrelevant to the story in that book.

@Zuzi, I thought Rowan was a love interest because that's how so many people described him to me before I read. So I think my expectations were way too high. You know? And now, I don't ship them at all.

message 37: by Jen (new) - rated it4stars

Jen I sure hope Rowan is not meant to be a love interest, nor do I hope he never becomes one.

Gunjan (NerdyBirdie) Steph wrote: "I feel so bad for disliking HoF because it has such a strong fan base that I feel like I SHOULD like it. Which is absurd, I know. It's just that I wanna love it as much as everyone else. Alas, I di..."

Oh, okay, sorry about that! I thought you didn't know.

I understand how the witch plot never met up with the other plots, so there wasn't that whole "flow" thatCrown of Midnighthad (my favorite part of the book)!

message 39: by Steph (new) - rated it1star

Steph Sinclair @Jennifer, same! I'm totally down with Celena just having a male friend.

@NerdieBirdie, it's cool! I wasn't very clear in my short review. I'm sure the plots will merge in the next book. But I agree, CoM was the best of the series so far!

message 40: by Jen (new) - rated it4stars

Jen @Steph, I feel like certain fans have hyping him out to be some love interest when there was nothing indicating that, nor does this series need ANOTHER option. Plus, what's wrong with her having a male friend? nothing, lets hope Sarah doesn't pander to some people.

message 41: by Irma (new) - rated it2stars

Irma omg I totally agree!

Gunjan (NerdyBirdie) People who are saying that Rowan is not a love interest are right because:(view spoiler)So yeah, Rowan is most definitely not a love interest.:D

Katerina Kondrenko NerdyBirdie wrote: "People who are saying that Rowan is not a love interest are right because: [spoilers removed] So yeah, Rowan is most definitely not a love interest.:D"

for me it's such a loss, guys) among all her harem I like Rowan most.

message 44: by Steph (new) - rated it1star

Steph Sinclair Yay!! Male friend! This makes me more interested in QoS.

message 45: by Jen (new) - rated it4stars

Jen NerdyBirdie wrote: "People who are saying that Rowan is not a love interest are right because: [spoilers removed] So yeah, Rowan is most definitely not a love interest.:D"

Is this for real? Because thank god for that! That's what this series doesn't need, another LI.

Queenie Li This is exactly how i feel about hof!!!!!!!! i thought i was the only person who couldn't finish this book;/;/

message 47: by Salman (new) - rated it5stars

Salman Nazir just finished it and love it. Agree it was way to slow at first. hated the new POVs. hated Witched chapter but once i was like 200 pages in.it was Superb.

message 48: by Rach (new) - rated it2stars

Rach I like this one but yeah it's a tad slow but I like how you've stated your opinion rather than rant on and discredit everything. Nice job:)

message 49: by Megan (new) - rated it3stars

Megan Emerson Thank you for this, I thought I was the only one who felt this way until I read your review. I've started this book and put it down a couple of times and just recently made myself finish it. It's really slow paced and I see all of the 5 Star reviews and ask myself if we all read the same book?

message 50: by Veline (new) - rated it3stars

Veline Yeah it's all the same cycle. Celaena always get those badass-douchebag-turned-lover-hunk wherever she went. Oh how cute. And her former lover being abandoned just like that with some other girls I couldn't care less about. And since when there is this carranam thing(or should i say parabatai)? It's like reading a different book. And Blackbeak? Aedion? Aunt Maeve? Turning into fae? Fire power? What is this.. just wtf am i reading
Thank you, Sarah J Maas for ruining my once favorite book series:)
