I have studied and read parts of the Bible throughout my life. However, I was never able to read the Bible from beginning to end. I failed each time I tried. I had even tried various Bible reading plans. I think what I lacked at that time was commitment.

Well last year about this time I tried again. This time I set time aside for devotion and Bible reading, each morning. I placed my Bible and computer on my nightstand. I used the Our Daily Bread webpage for devotion. It is a very short read with Bible passages. The site also had a Bible reading plan which I followed.

I found that using the Bible Gateway webpage for Bible reading helpful. One can also listen to an audio Bible as you read, the New International Version.

I intend to keep using this plan, since I don’t believe one reading was enough for me to have a spiritual understanding of all that I read. I feel blessed to have had an opportunity to accomplish this goal.

Bannedbooksbestreadsever I am of the mindset this is not fiction but rather as an anthropologist an accounting of events that occurred over a vast amount of historical time and ended in the times of Queen Cleopatra and Caesar era. This is when Jesus was killed by his own people and followers.
Who are we today to say it is not true or real.
This is a book that defy the test of time and science and fear in the meeting of the face of deat itself and the unknown where so we go? If not to return to what made us.
where do we "return to where we came from" if we did not come from mother earth and father spirit............
seeing is NOT believing rather believing is seeing.

Bannedbooksbestreadsever Proud of you for not giving up on trying to comprehend the parables and true meaning behind them. It is for the believers not the see-ers....

Evie What a great accomplishment! Reading the Bible daily draws us closer to our Heavenly Father. I've tried a few different plans over the years also. When you find what works, you stick with it. So happy for you! Xx

booklady Way to go! We are almost finished with our read. We didn't stick with our daily plan so well as we wanted to, but we're still working on it. Good for you having done this for so many years!

Urenna Sander Congratulations! There is nothing more spiritually comforting than the prose and advice in the Holy Bible. I tried reading the entire bible and got as far as Second Kings. I’ve attended two Holy Bible classes. One of the instructors suggested we read one chapter daily of the Book of Proverbs. Instead of the King James’ version, she was a proponent of the Good News Bible. She used this book during her family worship. Last year, in December I read a daily chapter of the Book of Proverbs and re-read the chapters in January (31 days). I have two Holy Books that I plan to read this year.

All the best,

Urenna

Melissa ♥ Dog/Wolf Lover ♥ Martin This is wonderful! I have tried over the years to read the Bible and always stop. I just got a new NIV study bible. It's across the room so I can't remember the exact name but it's the whole bible and lessons. I also got the audible narration so it can be read to me while I follow along.

I'm hoping to start it tomorrow!

Good luck with this reading challenge. I found the NIV version much easier to read. Also, without the reading plan I probably would not see a light at the end on the tunnel.

Urenna Sander I too have attempted to read the bible in its entirety in one year. Congratulations to you for succeeding. This year, I will achieve my goal. At this time, I am in the Book of Numbers. I have read different books in the bible, Old and New Testament, and received a kernel of knowledge in so many verses, i.e. II Corinthians 4:18. Unfortunately, there are too many to discuss. However, I can recite II Corinthians 1:3-4 by heart, as well as Proverbs 3: 5-6. Other favorites are Proverbs 2:11, Proverbs 15:1, and Proverbs 5:15-21. A friend reads a verse in Proverbs daily from The Good News Bible with her children, because it’s in today’s English version. I have a copy of The Good News, but prefer the King James’ version. In addition, my mother has a seventy-year-old Hebrew Book of the Psalms, which is nourishment for the soul. It provides meaningful commentaries on each Psalm.

Kindest regards,

Urenna

I know what you mean. Good luck with yours too. I have listened and followed along in the book once so far. Sigh..... I will keep going though.

Thomas Download one of schedules that are out there. I use Bible Schedule (iphone app) and it sets you up for 1 or 2 years of reading. It helps you set and keep a pace. Enjoy.

Pat the Book Goblin I used the YouVersion Bible app when I read through it. I also liked some of the audiobooks by LibriVox. It’s a hit or miss with some of the voices because it’s all volunteer but the guys who read the Bible did a great job. Maybe check it out and see if you like it. God Bless!
