Ahhhh!

description

This was exactly what I needed... the long soak in a hot tub, the breath of fresh air, the perfect antidote to the hatred and venom spewed by the racist, rabid yam currently running for President. Yes, after a week of watching a 70-year-old toddler throw daily tantrums, it was so refreshing to pick up this book and escape to a world where you could stumble upon a stranger's house and be invited in for tea.

This volume concentrates on Anne's two years spent teaching. There are good days and bad days as she attempts to mold the young minds of Avonlea.
Newly orphaned twins - the lifeless Dora and the way-too-lively Davy - come to live with lifelong spinster Marilla, prompting Mrs. Rachel Lynde to quip,"You're never safe from being surprised till you're dead."A local kook successfully predicts a wicked storm, and the Village Improvement Society, a group spearheaded by Anne and Diana to spruce up Avonlea, is born.

Love and laughs abound, and yes, it's sappy as hell, but as I said, exactly what I needed.

I have a feeling I'm going to be rereading the rest of this series before November rolls around. It's so nice to know that when I wake with a 3 AM panic attack, convinced that Trump has already won and life as we know it is over, that Anne's simple, and simply beautiful, world will be waiting for me.

C. (Comment, never msg). Fortunately every one of you can vote another way. Your Canadian neighbours don't want to deal with a lunatic either. It makes me happy that one of our cherished authoresses and locations, which I have not visited yet myself but have family there, can bring an American friend solace and peace.

Anna Kay I think you've hit on why my reading lately has mostly been a steady diet of Jane Austen & related (published) fanfic!:)

Arie (To be honest, even all the way over here in NZ we're more than a little worried! Definitely in need of some comfort reading...)

Jim Vote for Gary Johnson. He was the moderate Republican governor of NM for 2 terms, but is running on the Libertarian ticket. Unless a LOT of us support a third party candidate, we're going to keep getting stuck with choices as poor as we have this time.

Mary Geeez, even on goodreads you cant get away from the political insults.. Amazing, perhaps you all should be reading proposed policy rrather than Anne of Green Gables books and you might not be so fearful and worried. Ps, Liked your review--should have stopped with that.

Lee I thought I was the only one turning to my comfort books after November 8. Thanks for the review and for the reassurance of a like-minded reader.

I haven't finished my reread of the entire series yet, but I doubt I can make the good feelings stretch for four l-o-n-g years. I'll probably need to reach even farther back to Pippi Longstocking and Ramona the Pest.

Lilo Wish I had time to reading something entertaining. I'd need it just as badly as you do since the nightmarish reason for your panic attacks has come true.

Lilly Sad to read this now, after the fact. At least Anne is still with us. Stay strong and read on. ❤️

Thank you. I do, and I will. I think it's almost time for another dose of Anne.

Laura Melki, how about the No 1 Ladies Detective series? I read that series (all 18 of them) all the way through in 2017 for the very reason you state here! The first one is the weakest one. The second is wonderful and the audiobooks are first rate with lisette Lecat as narrator. Alexander McCall Smith is the author. Can't recommend them highly enough! As to Agent Orange, Mueller is coming.

Thanks for the rec. I read the first twelve in that series, but got kind of tired of them. I tend to forget aboutAlexander McCall Smithas a mood elevator. As to the other thing, I'm not sure Mueller is going to provide all the answers, but it's sure fun watching the Cheeto squirm.

Laura Well, they sure have enough evidence to get him for obstruction of justice at the very least. I see him as a Russian agent in the WH. No exaggeration. For the simple reason that Comey and Sessions have both testified that he has done nothing to prevent another Russian attack. That told me all I needed to know.

Although there are so many Russia-connected people surrounding him, etc., and the emails to Don Jr from the intermediary saying "this is part of the Russian government's efforts to help your father" etc. Sadly, people who watch Fox News don't receive all of this information, but apparently they are under investigation for their own Russian connections. Putin is no dummy. He has several members of Congress too.

Ok I just realized I am probably telling you nothing you don't already know but I guess I just needed to vent. Haven't become completely used to the lunacy yet, I guess.

The Anne series tends to be a little sweetsie for me, but I'd love to find another series like the No. 1 Detective, although they do stand up to rereads! Maybe if you try them again, in this environment they may work for you better?

Don't blame you a bit, and we should NEVER get used to this lunacy.

Have you tried McCall Smith's Isabel Dalhousie Series? I've really enjoyed the ones of those I've read. The Sunday Philosophy Clubis the first book.

Thanks, Melki. At least I don't have nightmares all the time, like I used to, so I guess I mean getting used to it from that sense.

I have read part of that series, but didn't like it as well. Maybe it's the humor in the No. 1 Ladies that I love so much, and the characters who just make me laugh out loud. They are just special. I've not found a series before or since that's been able to measure up.

Bridget Martin Well, I guess I'm not the only one reading this one as a diversion.
I really enjoyed the first book. Not this one. Everytime the twins are mentioned I rush to get through the passage.
I enjoyed the Hamish Macbeth series,https://www.goodreads.com/series/5187...And the Agatha Raisin books.

Luckily, the twins grow up quickly (just like real children), and are rarely mentioned in the other books. Thanks for the recs. I've been meaning to try Hamish one of these days.
