I was also writing more literary fiction and that was ... too much. I kept trying every year to see if i could write, but it took until I switched genres and also when things were more chill. You wouldn't THINK they'd be more chill with five kids than two, but my hubby is super supportive, and the other ones were in school and I had more time. Otherwise, sometimes I write myself into a corner and get stuck, as I don't plot. I have big ideas of what might happen but not how we'll get there. People call it discovery writing or pantsing. I love writing this way, but sometimes I just hit a wall. (less)

I tend to immediately start a new book after finishing one. I love starting books, and I often hit a kind of creative depression after completing a book, so starting a new one helps. I actually tend to start lots of books when I hear characters or envision a scene, so at any given time, I might have 5-10 books that are started, anywhere between 5k-30k. (less)

The Love Cliches Series: Three Cheers for Romcoms!

I love a good romcom.

Whether it's just witty banter and quirky characters or total slapstick (I'm a slapstick fan!), I'll take it!

But WRITING romcom?

GULP.

That seems terrifying! But after reading review after review of my sweet romance books that talked about laughing out loud, I really though I could try my hand at this.

I write funny texts.

I make people laugh in person.

But in book form??

I don't know WHY I just saw this! Absolutely Not in Love is actually Jenny Proctor's book, but we're writing the Appies books together, just alternating between who writes which ones. Feel free to shoot me an email, which is much easier for me to see See Full Answer

“Isn’t that love? Wanting what’s best for the other person, even if it breaks your heart?”
Emma St. Clair, Royally Rearranged

“Maybe it’s not too much. Maybe you’ve just grown used to not enough.”
Emma St. Clair, Just Don't Fall

“That was actually why I was standing outside Parker’s apartment door when she flung it open last night. I came back because I didn’t want to let the night end without kissing her. Or asking her if she wanted me to kiss her for real.”
Emma St. Clair, Just Don't Fall
