I have read many of Joel Osteen books over the years; however, purchased the audio book as a refresher. It is a short yet powerful read which comes at a perfect time in my life when I need to think “bigger”. In addition reiterates how we should look for ways to help others and by doing so opens up our hearts for abundance --do not continue to dwell on negatives as this is what we continue to bring into our lives, but the positives to open our minds and hearts for good things to come. An inspirational devotional which I recommend for those at a crossroads in their lives.

Short Bible passage & one or two page commentary followed by short prayer - renewed from library & would love to own a copy - I enjoy him on tv on Sunday evenings at 11pm channel 33 - he gives a thirty minute sermon that is almost always uplifting for me - I never was a person who watched church on tv before, but I discovered his program in June while channel surfing & try to catch it every week now.

He looks like a sheep, but underneath, he is a ravenous wolf! It's all phony. He is deceiving God's people. He starts out with pretending to pursue God, and end with his real goal for you- focus on success. Read KUNDALINI WARNING - Are False Spirits Invading the Church? By Andrew Strom. God showed me that Word of Faith is operated by the Kundalini spirit. Joel is a false prophet. This is a powerful spirit. It's a test. Read your bible. Kundalini twists the Word of God. Word of Faith tells you you need to tithe in order to be blessed. But where should you tithe? Is it definitely Joel? Do you believe in the fruits of their ministry? So he can get even richer while you stay poor. Does he not know what he is telling you is a lie? Or it's always God's will to give you wealth and health. What about Job? His story is our story, that we will lose things in this life. Doesn't mean we don't have enough faith. Read Jesus Goes To McDonald's by Luiz Alexandre Solano Rossi. Having a great life is a lie. When you become a Christian, the devil is after you. Everyday a battle, not a cushion. Or not to question those in positions of spiritual power. Yet Paul called out false teachers! Word of Faith movement is a bunch of garbage. If you accept it, you will, like me, have years of struggle, where you are looking for a "sign" God is with you. The only sign is His Word! They talk about not being "religious," as if an empty undiscerning mind ready to accept false doctrines is the Way to accept God. You must hold on to the true doctrine. Matthew 24:10-13 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. Once saved, always saved is a lie. To be saved, you must confess you are a sinner, that you put your trust in Jesus as Lord and Savior and will submit to Him in all things, including every part of your life, and with His help, that you will stop sinning. The deception here is really great! The manipulation is subtle, but with the Holy Spirit's help you can detect it. Truth mixed with lies is LIES. The positivity, the blabbing out promises without faith, the holding God hostage- Sure you can hold God hostage, but will He really find no falsehood among you? Joel Osteen is bewitching you, and lulling you to sleep. Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB4QF.... See if these teachings really stand up to the light of the Word of God.

I found this book to be very uplifting. I kept this book in my car and read one chapter a day in the parking lot of my job right before it was time for me to go in. It really helped my day start with clarity and a positive atmosphere.

Joel's book contains 90 devotionals of about three to five pages in length. I found the devotionals useful, but knowing that he comes from a mega church background, I felt I wasn't going to get real in-depth devotionals concentrating on passages from the Bible. Bible passages were included each day, but sometimes I had trouble seeing the connection between the passage for the day and the devotional he was including with it. At the end of each devotional, there is a prayer. However, I'm not sure if this was on purpose or not, but none of the prayers ended in "Amen". Maybe it was intentional so that we could continue praying? Some have said that his theology is flawed. I did see one flaw that sticks out to me every time I see it (no matter who says it). Near the end of the book he sites 1 Corinthians 10:13. People often confuse this verse with what we sometime hear people say: "God will never give you more than you can handle." Joel's devotion on "Choose to Be Happy Today" cites this verse. Folks, the phrase "God will never give you more than you can handle" is NOT true. It's not biblical. Look at the verse from 1 Corinthians. The verse is specifically talking about temptation..."No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it." (1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV) So, I wish that Joel wouldn't have put that in his book...because it just ain't true. For these reasons, I gave this book 3 of 5 stars.

Read Day One This Morning and was touched by how appropriate the words and wisdom were for exactly where I am in my life-path. Books like this tend to be good or bad based on what you read into them and I am REALLY Trying to read this in the best possible light and learn from the wisdom this preacher has to offer since our underlying theologies and approaches towards understanding what God is up to in the world from what I have understood is SO DIFFERENT.

As is our approach to scripture which seems to be an underlying or interwoven component to the wisdom he teachers rather than the "source and norm for faith and life" with regards to faith and my spiritual journey that it is for me.

As I said, I am very touched by this mornings words.

After reading this book about 3/4s of the way through I was overwhelmed by the self focused and in my opinion selfishly focused type of faith this preacher/author is advocating.

He comes across with a "Now is OUR TIME" attitude as if we are owed something as long as we are living faith according to his teachings and are willing to hold up our Bible at the beginning of a church service and do a chant with him.

He reminds me of those who Paul debated with and struggled against when he wrote the Letter to the Churches In Galatia - The book of Galatians points out the heart of the Gospel in a way that this Book completely misses.

Willing to overlook the skewed theology and look at it for what it has to offer Christians. It's listed in the Inspirational/Devotional category and not the Theology section. Originally when I got this as a gift I didn't want to read it due to the fact that seminarians view some of what he says as heresy. It's up to me to personally distinguish what I can and cannot take out of this book regarding faith. So I did two things as I read it: underlining what could be taken as skewed or off theology. I only found a few things, some of which he offers disclaimers for. the other thing I did was to give the book's purpose/ direction a chance. There is a personal review for this book on what I am taking away from this, which I will NOT be posting due to pain and such. This book offers the hope that we can have from the gospel and how it can translate into our lives in faith and obedience. It offers enthusiasm that is constant for living well even when life knocks you down to keep going on. That while suffering we can chose to have a I can get through this because of God mentality. Or when we are being tested we shouldn't complain but change how we respond cuz God is watching. What I cannot take out of this book is following God will cause me to be rich and famous due to my own merit.

This book has been instrumental in changing my life. I have included it in my Devotional Time and journal to each devotional. I have also written about some of the devotionals that especially impacted me. You can check out my response to some of those devotionals at http://www.trc38.blogspot.com I have highly recommended it to friends and others I've met along the way. If you are looking for a tool to guide you into a more positive, God-focused way of thinking and living, this book is for you!

This is a christian based book, but really just talks about livinh in the here and now and choosing what/who you want to be. Not something you read front to back, you open it to any page a few times a day or once a day and read the 2 or 3 pages of that devotion. I am finding it to be very powerful and rewarding. A very good read!

Truly Inspiring. Osteen has a way of quoting verses from the bible without it sounding like an evangelical hip hip hooray chant. He succeed in making us look at the power of the words behind it and with prayers can only make us act with faith to achieve the best life possible.

This was a much needed dose of inspiration. I like Joel Osteen's approach to religion. It's less guilt based and more person driven. If you want a good daily devotional pick this one up.

Reread in 2016.
