Waters of Time #2

Never Leave Me

Rate this book
In the last stages of a genetic disease, Ellen Creighton has decided to live out her remaining days at the estate of her longtime friend Harrison Burlington. Harrison cares deeply for Ellen, but as a wheelchair-bound paraplegic, he's never allowed himself to get serious in a relationship. However, he's desperately trying to save her by finding the holy water that is believed to heal any disease.

When he locates two flasks, Ellen refuses to drink one of them because she believes the holy water killed her sister and father. In an effort to convince her to take it, Harrison ingests the contents first, and when Ellen witnesses the effects, she can no longer deny the power of the substance in the bottles. Dangerous criminals are also seeking the holy water, and Ellen soon learns they will go to any lengths to get the powerful drug--including sending her back into the past to find it for them.

#1 This is a long review, so pull up a chair and grab a bowl of popcorn. You’ll be here awhile. #2 When I read a review, I want substantial information. So I will not skimp on the details. Which may mean some spoilers, so watch out.

Stars: 3.5

Synopsis: When Ellen Creighton witnesses—and experiences—the supernatural healing power of the ancient water, she finds herself in the realm of business espionage and intrigue...and in the 14th century. Will she be able to return to the future and reveal the enemy’s evil plot in time to save herself and her friends?

Never Leave Me picks up right where Come Back to Me leaves off, following suit in many ways—such as not quite reaching its full potential.

Ellen and Harrison I believe had much deeper development and characterization than Marian and Will in the previous book—in part because of the fact we’d already gotten to know them, to a degree, in the first book. I really appreciate that, and, for the most part, I think Hedlund managed the transition from Come Back to Me into this book quite well.

Unfortunately, I never did establish a connection with Ellen. She had more going for her than Marian, I reckon, but I could never get a read on her personality or her true character, so she just never really clicked for me. Typical of heroines, eh?

Harrison, on the other hand, I loved in the first book...but in here, I feel like he lacked his novelty. He seemed a bit forward, a tad immature, and perhaps a teensy smidge out of place. Okay, a lot out of place. What rankled me the most, though, was that he didn’t act at all like a nearly forty-year-old man. A twenty-year-old kid from 1930, yes—which honestly shouldn’t be much different from a forty-year-old man in the 2020s. My point is that for all his aristocratic airs, age, and intelligence, not to mention his years spent as a paralytic, he simply acted like a brash young American. And when I’m promised a refined, wise older Englishman, I find that sorely disappointing.

Seriously. I love older heroes (and Harrison wasn’t all that old), but when they differ none from the kid who’s half their age, it’s basically pointless. So perhaps I’m overreacting to a pet peeve, but you’ve got to admit that characters who don’t act their age (or act like they are mature as their circumstances would make them seem) are unrealistic, therefore unbelievable, therefore difficult to connect with.

Not to mention Harrison himself made a big deal out of being thirty-nine and seemingly too old to be a father. Believe you me, had he had a child, he would in no way act like their grandfather. (My dad was in his late forties when my baby brother was born, and suffice it to say that he doesn’t act like a grandfather to him at all. On top of that, my great-grandfather was fifty-two when my grandmother was born, and he lived to see his grandchildren. No issues with age there either. I honestly find that argument shaky and selfish, but that’s just due to my experiences.)

Apart from that, at least they had more development and more of an emotional connection to each other than Will and Marian did. I can appreciate that.

However, where the characters possessed a bit of substance, the plot did not—the opposite of CBTM. There were so many plot points—that I feel like none of them were given enough time to be fleshed out. Especially the dumb marriage of convenience (if convenience is even the right word in this context) toward the end there. I’m sorry, but I can’t stand MoCs that are just thrown in last minute to add some spice to the book. Trust me, they don’t. They seem like cliché and unnecessary plot devices and I hate them. Now, if you want to make the whole book about the MoC or just focus on the MoC in the beginning (like More Than Words Can Say by Karen Witemeyer and The Mistletoe Countess by Pepper Basham), I’m all for that. We get the development we need to really pull that off, so how can I complain?

But when you just slip it in there within the last fifty pages and you use it to manufacture unneeded drama, you’re just setting yourself up for failure. Especially when you, like Jody Hedlund, have written at least fifty marriage of convenience stories.

Let’s see...there’s A Bride of Convenience, Hereafter, A Cowboy for Keeps, Searching For You, Come Back to Me, Love Unexpected, A Noble Groom...the list goes on, my dears.

It’s getting old. Just sayin’. Next time you need a catalyst for drama or something to move the story along, try something new or pull from the material you already have. Don’t just conjure something up—especially something that everyone has used a gazillion times.

(Y’all may use this to discourage me from ever doing the same thing in the future, if you’d like. Can never have too many officers on the Plot Police force. *winks*)

I still like the time travel method, though. And the thread of suspense and intrigue. I really wish there’d been more of that—it was what kept the story interesting, after all.

And I do appreciate the faith content—Hedlund never leaves God out—but what bothered me was that Ellen and Harrison both seemed to have struggles in their walk with God that were never touched upon. Ellen even went so far as to say that she’d been doubting God so much, pushing His away, and not trusting in Him...but instead of turning that into a theme or message or a faith arc for Ellen, it was left to lie. And that was sorely disappointing, because I feel like there was so much that Ellen and Harrison needed to work through before the end.

But y’all don’t let me get preachy on y’all—I know how much y’all hate that.

Long story short…Never Leave Me followed the previous book perfectly, meshing timelines and characters, mysteries and romances, effortlessly. It also provided the same quick and enjoyable reading experience. However, the plot lacked depth and development, probably due to how short and fast-paced this story was. With a finer focus on the better plot points and more time for development, I think this could’ve been a fabulous story. But alas, such was not the case.

Oh my goodness, this was wonderful! I didn’t want to stop reading and I loved the romance. It was quite suspenseful and I held my breath several times! Jody Hedlund writes my favorite types of romance. It’s a romance that you can see and feel with every word they share. How they look at each other, touch each other. So respectful, thoughtful and kind.
I’ve read at least 8 novels by her and they just keep getting better. Time travel is a difficult thing to write about and JH did a great job with this story. I’m grateful that it ended the way it did and I’m a very happy reader with a giant smile on my face. I highly recommend this which is book 2. But it can be read as a stand-alone, if you’re wondering.

Another spellbinding tale from Jody Hedlund! Never Leave Me was one of my most anticipated reads of 2022 (I’m lucky I got to read it a bit early) and it didn’t disappoint. A solid portion of this book takes place in present time, which felt a bit strange because Hedlund is one of my favorite historical authors, but it just proves Hedlund can write successfully in an era.

The scenes of medieval life are portrayed realistically and seen through the eyes of modern people, which made for a very intriguing contrast. Because of their authenticity, I fell in love with the characters. Harrison is definitely a new book boyfriend! I’m crossing my fingers that Hedlund writes a third book in this series because I need more of these characters.

Never Leave Me needs to be on your TBR. Fans of Hedlund’s historical stories don’t need to worry at all about the switch in setting—plenty of the story is set in the fascinating medieval era. And I can’t recommend Hedlund’s writing enough! 4.5/5 stars

Another book in the Waters of Time series that did not disappoint and had me turning pages late into the night.

This book follows two secondary characters from book 1 and I was especially excited for Harrison to get his own story. In book two you’ll get the same excitement in time travel, some great romantic chemistry and did I mention this is an age gap romance? 100% worked for me.

What I love about these books is the history layered with romance and then you add in an element of suspense and tension that make them such fun and fast reads. I loved Harrison in this book, so open and vulnerable and willing to do anything for the woman he loved. There are some really fun twists that I’ll avoid spoiling but if you loved the first I don’t really see any reason you won’t love the second.

The first might have captured my heart a bit more because …#teamsexywill BUT I do think this one is a very close second.

Come for the time traveling through the medieval ages but stay for the sweet yet sizzling romance.

Holy Moly!!! This book was wow!!! I loved Ellen and Harrison in the first book and was beyond ecstatic that they got their own book! Yay!!!

Harrison is such a wonderful character. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. I loved every moment we got to read from his point of view. I loved reading his thoughts and seeing how much he loved and cared for Ellen. That he truly wanted her to be healthy and safe.

Ellen has been sick for so long. What do you do when you know you're going to die? You've guarded your heart from everyone because you don't want them to feel the pain of losing you. And you don't want to feel the pain of knowing you can't be with them for long. You block your heart of course! Keep everyone at bay and don't let them close enough to hurt you. Well except your best friend Harrison. When Ellen is healed from her sickness her mind hasn't had time to heal and change from the previous mindset she's lived with for years. But a patient and loving man who will cross time to save you definitely has the power to offer peace and healing and love.

I thought the way the author created the time travel aspect and all the rules behind it was very creative. I loved that we were able to see previous characters from the first book. There are a few surprises in store, get ready!!!

There are some intense moments in this book. Just be ready to not want to stop reading the book. You'll be so engrossed and want to know what happens. Can Ellen be saved? Can Harrison save her?

Content: Clean. Some more passionate kissing but nothing further than a few kisses. Some innuendos. This book is a Christian Fiction novel and has some aspects of the characters praying to and talking to God in their minds. There are some moments of peril and fights but nothing overly graphic.

I received a copy from the publisher, Revell, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Even better than the first book!

Once again, we’re back with familiar characters and I was invested in the story right away. I held my breath at every turn of the page. It doesn’t let up the pace for a second. And I couldn’t put it down.

I read it in two sittings just like I did with the first one. I especially adored the male protagonist in this one. Loved him!

As with the first book, the only aspect I didn’t particularly enjoy was the continuous desire, intense attraction and near intimate scenes between the two main characters. I think handsome and beautiful were used a dozen or more times throughout and it was often enough I kept thinking “yeah we get it.” Lol It just wasn’t necessary.

Overall though, I thoroughly enjoyed this one even more than the first book. This book is a thrilling and intense novel that I couldn’t put down! I keep thinking about the characters and I hope there will be a third novel. I’ll eagerly await it!

'Maybe God was still there with her, never leaving her, always wanting to help her, always loving her.'

The first book in Jody Hedlund's series drew me in almost instantly and I absolutely loved it! I couldn't wait for the second in the series and now that I've read it, I loved it also.

Ellen Creighton could use some of that holy water her sister Marian and father used, because she is near death's door from a genetic disease. And Harrison, paralyzed and in a wheelchair since the age of four, could use some, too. But things are not that simple. They can't get anymore unless they travel back in time to retrieve it and then there is a chance they may not find it.

Get on board with this series and watch and read in awe as Hedlund takes her readers on a wonderful split time story! I found myself gasping may times, hand to chest in wonderment. I loved every minute! I hated for it to end.

My thanks to Revell for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The opinion here is entirely my own.

Book two is the Waters of Time series thrusts readers back into the world of holy water that has the power to heal and allows people to time travel, making readers wonder who will live and who will die because of the highly-sought-after cure.

I'll be honest: I'm really torn on my review of this book. I have always enjoyed Jody Hedlund's books, but I find myself not loving them the way I used to. These are my mixed thoughts on Never Leave Me.

PROS:
- I loved Harrison in book one, so I was very happy to see him take the lead role in this book.
- The plot is fast-paced and surprising. What I expected to happen took place within the first 50-80 pages, and then the new direction it took was exciting. I love when books go somewhere I didn't expect.
- Revisiting characters from book one, and seeing how the timelines crossed paths with some characters. Can they change their fate? Or is the past written in stone?

CONS:
- I thought the characters made some wild decisions regarding their lives and the time travel, and it was frustrating at times.
- The main characters go through this endless pattern that consists of the following: 'oh I like him/her but I can't show it because I'm scared/not good enough for them' to 'oh let's fake our relationship in front of this audience' then back again. This cycle happens over and over and it kinda drove me crazy.

TL;DR - The book is engaging and fast-paced, but also unbelievable for me, more in the characters' actions than the time travel aspect of the novel. I think it's a fun read, especially if you're a fan of Jody Hedlund or have read the first book.

Thank you to the publisher for the gifted copy of this novel. I was sent this book in exchange for my honest review.

What an incredible follow up to Come Back to Me.
We now encounter Ellen Creighton as she is ravaged with a rare disease and cancer. Her trusted friend, wheelchair bound Harrison Burlington, a wealthy nobleman, has tried to make her last days as comfortable as possible while trying to keep his love for her a secret. After a miraculous recovery for both of them, they are still searching for the source of the holy water and the whereabouts of Ellen’s sister and father. But evil thwarts their plans and puts everyone in danger. They ponder if they are worthy caretakers of this secret. “In their quest for the holy water, had they unearthed something God had not wanted them to disturb? While healing and health were incredible gifts, was healing always the best course, or did the suffering and hardship that came with disease serve a purpose, too.”
Lots of intrigue in this well written time travel tale. The main characters shine with their selflessness. Harrison is the best kind of hero. He is kind, thoughtful and has integrity. And Ellen has some self realization as she grows closer to Harrison: “Courage. Instead of always giving up or running away in fear, maybe it was time to pray that she could face the uncertainty of the future with courage.”
Suspend belief and enjoy this captivating book!

Another unique story by Jody Hedlund that I thoroughly enjoyed. This series just continues to amaze me with some great subjects such as "the Holy Water” and time traveling, which in my opinion is the most exciting part ever! I love time travel! Sometimes I often wonder what it would be like. This book focuses on Ellen’s story, the younger sister of Marian who was featured in book one, Come Back to Me. If you haven’t read the first book yet, I highly recommend it.

Hedlund is a masterful storyteller for the medieval times. She describes scenes so perfectly I felt like I was there right along Ellen, Harrison, Marian and Will. I found that I didn't really like one of the supporting characters, Dr Lionel. In certain scenes he made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck and I didn't like that. Well, I did and didn't because these are the scenes that have a bit of mystery and that's what I love about the book if that makes sense. I highly recommend !

My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review and all opinions are my own. 5 stars for a well written story with awesome character development and some romance thrown in too!

I received this book from the author/publisher for the purpose of this review. All comments and opinions are my own and this review is voluntary.

I wanted to DNF this by 20% but...I pushed on. Then I did DNF it at 50%. But I came back to it and forced myself to finish it. I really didn't enjoy this sequel. Which surprised me after ADORING Come Back to Me (like, the first book was almost in my top 10 of last year...I LOVED it! So, so much!).

I think what irritated me about this one is that the plot that's promised on the back of the book was resolved in the first three chapters and then the first book is repeated with just a few differences. There was really nothing new in this book. I had hoped that Never Leave Me would revolve around Ellen and Harrison's plot to track down the water for themselves and that their relationship would be explored, but what it is, is nothing more than an incredibly rushed resolution (I'm not kidding, by chapter three), a haphazard romance that is so awkward I couldn't even read it (that old couple was creepy as heck, y'all--like, ew. Why was that okay? And why did a thirty-nine-year-old man--who is a LORD--cave under peer pressure like a twelve-year-old boy? TWICE), and the "dangers" that happened in the first book...it's literally the same here.

Sequels are hard, I get it, but why is this sequel even here? Come Back to Me should've been a standalone with a few extra chapters at this point. And I very rarely write reviews like this, especially for Christian books, because I want this genre to succeed--but even the faith in this book felt like it was added as an afterthought. There's a place near about 27% that Ellen says, "Even though he didn't say it, she could tell that Harrison thanked God." And it was so random. Because she's absolutely right, Harrison hadn't said that. In fact, in his point of view which WE have read, he never even THOUGHT it. It was added just so we could call this book "Christian" and it felt so, so out of place and even forced. I just, goodness, I'm so disappointed in this book...and it was one of my most anticipated releases of this year...

And for a "Christian" romance...the kissing scenes were spicier than most secular YAs. My eyebrows raised quite a few times as I looked at that "Christian Fiction" tag.

I never thought I would enjoy time travel books that one of the time periods took place in ancient times. After all how could I possibly enjoy reading about a time period that is so different than mine? Well that was before I read Jody Hedlund's, The Water's of Time series. Now granted I only gave it a try because I LOVE the author's books and figured why not give it a shot. The first book was excellent and somehow I thought this book was even better.
Her eloquent writing style left me unable to put the book down once I picked it up making for a late night read, but I'm okay with that.
I felt just as comfortable reading the time-travel areas as I did the modern times. The author pulls you in with her exquisitely researched book. The book has you holding your breath a few times wondering how the characters can get out of the situations they are in. This very intriguing book had me captivated with it's fast paced suspenseful moments and the romance was spot on.
Highly recommended!

I was highly anticipating this second story after loving book one, Come back to me. And the cover is stunning - it just screamed ‘Read Me’.

I loved being in the Medievel Times - I enjoyed the Knights, the danger and just they way they spoke and interacted. The Modern Day time line was also interesting, I just felt the pace was a bit slower.

I loved Nicholas and secretly hoping for a book 3 with him. The villains, both in the past and current times were creepy and self-seeking, which made the heros more dashing.

Though I enjoyed this story and the love story as well, I did love book one a bit more.

Another enjoyable time travel with a continuing story line from Come Back to Me and a nice character set-up for the third book in the series. Romance, history, and suspense are all part of the story. Enjoy.

A satisfying sequel to Come Back to Me...and yes, you really should read that one first because this one will make a lot more sense if you do.

This tale takes place mostly in contemporary times, not the past, though there is some swordplay and a few big burly knights to make a medieval lover smile. I liked visiting with former characters and meeting some new players in the game.

Looking forward to book 3!

Never Leave Me is the five star read definitely worth losing sleep over because it’s that amazing and so hard to put down! Jody Hedlund’s highly anticipated second book in the Waters of Time series begins right where Come Back to Me leaves off. Ellen and Harrison were enjoyable in the first book and I grew to absolutely adore them in this one. With an exceptionally swoon-worthy romance, heart-pounding suspense, and an intriguing fast-paced plot, this book grabbed me right from the beginning and did not let go.

Ellen is dying, and Harrison is doing everything in his power to save her. Believing Ellen’s sister Marion is alive and well in the 1380’s, Harrison has faith the water from the Tree of Life can cure Ellen, if only she will take it. When he discovers two vials of the water, he takes one to prove its healing powers. Immediately cured from his childhood spinal cord injury, Harrison persuades Ellen to take the second vial and she’s miraculously cured.

The implication of the water’s healing power sets up several interesting dilemmas. Is there a purpose for disease and suffering? If they can locate more water or figure out its healing properties, who should get it? If there’s a limited supply, what does that mean for the world? What about those who would sell it to the highest bidder or even kill for it?

Ellen and Harrison have their own personal dilemmas. Both believed their circumstances wouldn’t allow them to fall in love, so, to suddenly be healed brings joy but also confusion for the future. Throughout the story, each struggles with their new reality and changing relationship as they race back and forth between the present and Medieval times to save each other and to try to thwart a man who would stop at nothing to get the water.

The time travel elements of the story are intriguing and I loved the unique concept of the “living water” from the Tree of Life. Both the modern day and Medieval settings are amazing and so well described that I felt like I was there. I loved seeing Marion and Will again and enjoyed new characters introduced, particularly Nicholas and Sybil.

Thoughtful, handsome, charming Harrison had me at “love” and I fell for him right along with Ellen. They were both such enjoyable, well developed characters. It was easy to understand their misgivings and root for them to find happiness. Holy cow! Their romance is off the charts sizzling.

If possible, this book was even more incredible than the first! Hoping there’s a third book in the series because I’m just not ready to let this story go! I highly recommend reading the first book in the series before this book to really appreciate the plot and characters. Time travel romance lovers or even historical fiction lovers will enjoy the Waters of Time series. I received an advanced copy of the book from the author and publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

Jody Hedlund hooked me in the first Waters of Time book, Come Back to Me. It was one of my favorite reads of 2021 and I have been anxiously awaiting this one. For me, Never Leave Me did not disappoint.

Ellen Creighton is in the later stages of a genetic disease and is living out what she believes are her last days at the estate of Harrison Burlington. Harrison is in a wheel chair with paralysis. As this book begins, Harrison finds the holy water that Marion has left for both him and Ellen so that they can be healed--and they are. But what happens next? Do they let people know they have been healed? Can they find more holy water to help others that need healing? Before they can figure things out, after a brief vacation, Ellen is kidnapped and forced to go back in time.

I enjoyed Never Leave Me. I liked that we got to go back in time and visit Marian and her husband, William, from the first book. I enjoyed the time travel adventures as well as the mystery as they try to track down where Ellen is being held captive. I also enjoyed the romance between Ellen and Harrison with the friends to lovers trope. Both their time together in the present and in the past included some swoony romantic times.

I did see glimpses of God through Never Leave Me as Ellen and Harrison share their thoughts with the reader in some of their struggles. I thought the spiritual aspect was well woven in to the plot. I also liked that Never Leave Me caused me to reflect on what I would do in that situation. I would surely want to heal others that I know need it as well but what is the best way to go about that and is it possible? I also enjoyed the character Nicholas who helped Ellen in the 1300s. I think he would make a great main character for another book--and I hope that the series will continue.

I received this book from Revell Publishers, through Interview and Reviews. All opinions within this review are my own.

Didn’t quite meet my expectations after the deliciousness of the first book. I like the MCs Ellen & Harrison a lot! But felt the will-they-won’t-they lasted too long. I got overtired of waiting for them to communicate! I listened to this on audiobook (the narrator is lovely!) & it lost my attention during the second half.

It takes a long time to get to the time travel part & it just didnt go the way I wanted it to I guess? I wanted to see their relationship blossom in the past but really their main interactions were in present day.

It’s an enjoyable book but I wanted more communication. The conflict over the holy water ended up feeling kind of weak too. Lastly, Ellen & Marion’s Dad didn’t feel like a fully developed character & I didn’t care if he lived or died.

Yay! Book two in this series is finally here! I've been waiting to read this one because the first book was good and left things primed for this story. You really need to read book one before reading this book. The story is continuing and all the characters are in both books. The first book really sets the stage for this one with background and explanations.

Time travel books are tricky to write, I think. You have to make some sort of logical sense out of it and the author does a pretty good job of it here. We start in the present day and are there for a bit, then we go with Ellen for a dip into the past. It's quite eventful to say the least! The first part of the book was really us getting to see Ellen and Harrison together, interacting and getting to know their relationship. The second part was them apart, in desperate times, trying to help each other. The pacing was good, building with tension and emotion all the way through.

I especially loved Harrison. He was so kind, gentle, and thoughtful. Ever the gentleman. He adored Ellen and it was expressed in his words and his actions. He was the hero of this book for sure. Harrison! 😍

This book was a good change of pace in my reading. Time travel is a lesser written genre and I'm glad this author gave it a go. It was fun!

Content: peril, death, mild violence, kissing

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference…

This book. This book had me on a rollercoaster, y’all! My heart was racing at records speeds throughout many parts of this book. This book not only was a time-travel historical fiction romance, but it also had elements of suspense that had your mind reeling at how everything was going to work out in the end. I still have quite a few questions, but those are more personal questions that I want answered not questions that Mrs. Hedlund did not wrap up in the end of this book. Also, I LOVED that she included the Serenity Prayer! I adore this prayer so, so much! 🥺💙

I loved all the characters so dearly. I enjoyed seeing Marian and Will again especially since it had been a good few months since we left them in book 1. Although I didn’t connect to Ellen as much as I did to Marian, I still loved watching her grow and mature throughout this book. There were a few times that I wanted to shack her in order to knock some sense into her, but ultimately I loved getting to know her more in this book. Harrison in the other hand is literally my favorite cinnamon roll EVER! His love for Ellen shown throughout not only book 1, but also this one. He has such a caring and soft personality and Mrs. Hedlund did a phenomenal job at showing just how much he cared for Ellen throughout this entire novel.

Speaking of the romance, I was literally about ready to pull my hair out. One thing that I dislike about friends to lovers is that it takes them SO STICKEN LONG to get together!! I just want to see them together, forgoing all this angst, but I guess that is what a slow burn romance is…torture for everyone involved! 😅 Besides the fact that the characters took forever and a half to get together, their romance was so sweet and I loved seeing them together. I know slow burn is annoying, but friends to lovers is such a precious trope…I love it! 😍

Overall, I loved this book a whole heck of a lot and I really cannot wait to see what Mrs. Hedlund has in store for us next!!

Note: This book does have some heavier physical romance aspects to it making it PG-13, although you read nothing more than kissing, it can be too much for some readers.

Never Leave Me is the second book in the Waters of Time series. It's a time travel story that features Harrison and Ellen. I really enjoyed everything about this book. It has romance, mystery and suspense.

Never Leave Me was a wonderful story to start the new year with! This was an absolutely beautiful tale and the perfect follow up to book one, Come Back to Me. I am hoping that the author will write a book three and take us all on another jaunt through time.

Harrison’s devotion to Ellen was so endearing. He never wavered in his love for her, no matter the cost to himself. I felt bad for him as he suffered through heartache quite a few times as he tried to make the best decisions for Ellen.

Both of these characters were very likable. Ellen had a lot of emotional healing to do after the diseases she spent so many years fighting. Opening her heart and allowing herself to recognize her feelings for Harrison was not easily accomplished.

I loved both the present and the past settings with these characters and even though I knew the book was coming to an end, I really didn’t want to let go of any of the characters! I loved it from start to finish. I definitely recommend reading the books in the Waters of Time series in order.

Just take all the stars! This book deserves every single star it earns. I can’t praise the writing that Jody Hedlund has accomplished enough. I keep thinking, “This is the best. There’s no way she can write anything better.” And then she produces ANOTHER amazing piece.

This story is everything you wanted for Ellen and Harrison. You thought you liked Harrison in Come Back to Me, but no. You will love him and his adventure through Never Leave Me. And Ellen. She has a heart of gold, but she may be confused about how to live life with hope and love. The storyline was excellent and there’s a lot more ethical questions about the tree of life healing waters than in the first. Kind of makes you wonder how things would be in our life if there was this ultimate cure to every illness and ailment.

There’s no doubt this is in my top favorites reads of 2021. I am hoping that a third story will happen. I need one for Nicholas.

I love reentering the Waters of Time series. This book was excellent even the second time around. Both main characters were so well written you will feel their pain and love for each other. Again this book had me hooked until the end. If you haven't read this series you MUST pick it up. There is going to be a book 3 so I am trying to patient for it to come out!!

The second book in The Waters of Time series provides readers with yet another enjoyable time travel adventure. I'd recommend this series to all Jody Hedlund fans (who probably make up a huge chuck Christian fiction readers!), even if time travel isn't your typical genre. This was well done and built upon the first in this series perfectly. Also, these are not stand alone novels. You need to start from the beginning of the series to truly appreciate this story. Furthermore, I hope there is a third book to come! This book was packed full of twists and turns. I really enjoyed the unpredictability and fast pace. The method of time travel is so unique and well executed in this series, far exceeding my expectations. I confess I preferred the romance and character development in book one a little more, but was still enjoyable. If you enjoy romance and/or historical fiction, I recommend this series!

What a great sequel in the Waters of Time series. I definitely recommend you read the series in order since the first book (Come Back to Me) puts down the groundwork for what happens in this book. It’s a bit different from the first in that friends-to-more romance plot line takes center stage here as Harrison desperately tries to find a cure for Ellen’s genetic disorder. I loved Harrison and Ellen’s sweet, tender, self-sacrificing love and being back in 1382 with Will and Marian. Harrison’s devoted, steadfast heart and his keen intelligence makes him a uniquely unforgettable hero and Ellen’s compassionate bleeding soul makes her a worthy heroine. If you’re looking for a time-traveling adventure with heart-stopping romance and lots of action, look no further!

I received the book from publisher via Interviews and Reviews and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

The characters were solid and the premise drew me in so fast!! (Why couldn't I have loved it*tears*) But I ran into a scene in the beginning where we began kissing friends to keep them awake?? (First, it is the same problem as her last book I read about too much almost inappropriate description.)Second, we had just been told that one of them thinks of the other as a friend and brother. SO WHY DID YOU NOT JUST KISS HIM ONCE WHEN HE IS OUT BUT LIKE THREE PLUS TIMES!!?? WHY DID YOU KISS HIM AT ALL?? There was no reason other than the need to push the romance plotline. No reason.
Anyway, had to close this one as well. I'm so sad that I won't be able to continue to go back in time with this series. Uggh..

Never Leave Me is one of my most anticipated sequels and it does not disappoint! Once again, author Jody Hedlund weaves a compelling, intelligent, page-turning story full of symbolism, healing, miracles, time-travel in another amazing "what-if" story. I could not put it down!

Gotta love a story that begins with the Serenity Prayer! (God, grant me the serenity accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace.)

In this story Ellen is dying from a hereditary disease, and wheelchair-bound Harrison does everything in his power to try to save her. He has loved her for a long time, and she is clueless about it. Because of her illness, she has not allowed herself to be in any serious relationships. Time travel was a concept that defied her comprehension. By going to the past she realizes that her friend Harrison "was the one stability in her uncertain life." I love how this story also builds on and revisits Come Back to Me!

Some quotes I enjoyed:
"She'd been awake no longer than five minutes in the past, and already she was about to be murdered." "How did women in movies ride horses to elegantly and effortlessly?" "Wasn't that the story of her life? Survival? And here she was trying to survive again." "Yes, only God knows each of our timelines." "I plight thee my troth." "One thing was becoming clear: although the water could bring healing, it also brought death." "Courage. Instead of always giving up so easily or running away in fear, maybe it was time to pray that she could face the uncertainty of the future with courage."

Thank you to Revell and Net Galley for allowing me to read an early copy! (I was thrilled by the way.) All opinions are my own!
