Penned byMatthew A. Collins( “All That Glitters” ), “Heart Land”is billed as “28 Days Later”meets “Lord of the Flies.”The story is centered around two disparate bands of children struggling to survive in the brutal landscape of a pestilent America, where adults have become infected by a mysterious plague and only children are immune. Left to their own devices, the youthful survivors must rely on primal instinct and dwindling resources to fend off the raging infected.

Stephen King’s been known to write a doorstop or two, but within the prolific author’s oeuvre are tales that amount to a fraction of “It.” What these novellas lack in page-count, though, they make up for in thrills. Some of the most successful cinematic translations of his work come from this short-fiction subset.

“The Shawshank Redemption”—a two-and-a-half-hour prison drama adapted from the 181-page novella, “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” —is widely considered one of the greatest movies ever made. “Halloween Ends”had a healthy — albeit slightly underwhelming — box office performance in its debut weekend, but the 13th film in the popular horror franchise looks to have made up for it with a strong debut on Peacock, according toWhip Media’s latest movie ranker — which reflects data from TV time, a TV and movie app that tracks viewer interest from 22 million global registered users.

Ryan Murphy’s mega-bucks deal withNetflixis looking like a very smart investment.

Back in 2018, Netflix signed Murphy — whose previous television hits included “Glee”and “American Horror Story” — to a five-year deal worth a reported 300 million.

That deal paid off big time this week as two Murphy-produced Netflix series “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” and “The Watcher”rocketed to the top of the streamer’s most-watched English-language series.
