Every once in awhile a movie will come out that surprises you with how good it is. Unlocked is such a movie. It has everything a movie goer wants. It has an intelligent plot, It has twists and turns within that plot, it has good acting by an A-list cast and a fast tempo delivery that holds your attention for the whole movie. All in all a very entertaining movie and I think that is all the audience wants for their money. Kudos on a job well done!
Movie was released in 2017, but it's so 2020 is scary. Also, as I'm watching this, I only guessed one bad guy! All the liars are so convincing, you can't trust anyone in this thriller! I recommend this as a good watch.

Entertaining several twists. Female lead is a bit of prodigy like the main character in "Covert Action". Some differences, i.e. is already in field, no mention of personal history on the main character, except that she is depressed by inability to stop a bombing in time, and how she came to be sourced by CIA.
Character development could be better. More flashbacks, fleshing out would have been good for identifying with characters.
Follow up (what outcome) on some of the supporting cast would be nice as well.
I'd like to see this arrangement again though in sequel - think it could do well.

This film tells the story of a CIA agent who is haunted by her past failed mission. She is recruited to interrogate a terrorist in London, but things take a horrifying turn when she finds out that the new mission is compromised.
"Unlocked" has a great story. It is engaging, thrilling and full of surprises. There are so many twists and turns, and you just don't know who you can trust. The ending is very intense, and my palms got all sweaty! "Unlocked" is a pleasant surprise.

The movie is well done technically with a great cast but they don't really talk about the ideology nor do we really get to know the characters so we are left with lots of action with many twists but nothing you will remember half an hour after you see the credits.
A decent time waster for VOD. if you are looking for a John La Carre novel sophistication look elsewhere.
To tell you the truth, I did not know anything about this movie. I had neither seen the trailer nor read the synopsis to it. So you could imagine my surprise when we were given twist after twist through out the whole movie. My wife and I were pretty surprised of the first twist and we were kept on guessing till the very end (Although some twists were easier to guess than others), but nevertheless we were quite entertained.
The main story itself was a bit stereotype about terrorists plotting to do some horrifying attack and must be stopped at all costs. But the interesting part was actually those surprising twists. In addition, the fighting and gun shooting scenes were surprisingly good. The sound effects particularly during the guns blazing were cool and added the element of suspense. One more thing that I liked about this movie was the fact that they really used real-time method like in 24 TV series starring Kiefer Sutherland.
This may not be an instant classic crime thriller movie, but I personally felt that this one was not too bad. In fact it was pretty enjoyable and it even had some brief funny moments. The movie also had some interesting large cast of well known stars with John Malkovich whom I dubbed as the star performer despite having limited screen time. Orlando Bloom sadly looked old in this movie (totally unlike his performances as Legolas that made him became a ladies' favorite). While Noomi Rapace started to build her own rapport as lead star of thriller/action movies.
Now if you are a fan of a crime thriller movie with multiple twists through out the movie, combined with brief action sequences every now and then, you should give this one a try and see it for yourself. But if you are not a fan of such genre, or if you prefer a very intelligent crime thriller drama, then perhaps this would not really satisfy you.

Entertaining spy / action movie with a lot of plot twists. There is not much character development or a very deep plot, so if you do not care for that, this could be a nice friday night popcorn action flick for you.
For Dutch readers: Leuke actiefilm met veel wendingen in het verhaal. Er zit niet veel diepgang in het verhaal of de karakters. Maar als je dat geen probleem vindt, is het prima vermaak voor een vrijdagavond.

"Unlocked" offers a Byzantine plot filled with unexpected twists, a talented cast and decent production values. Many of the plot devices are familiar tropes, but some seem fresh, including a sequence involving a motorcycle and an early reversal of fortune. The story is engaging, but never quite edge-of-your-seat enthralling. At the end, it seems a worthwhile experience, but devoid of anything really fresh.
Spy films don't mix well with politically liberal ideals. The typical spy film entails extrajudicial executions, capital punishment, enhanced interrogation, kidnappings, violation of treaties, immigrants engaged in spy cells, profiling and all manner of activities that outrage liberals. This film seems to attempt to defer or pander to liberal sensitivities, while pursuing a plot that requires a right-wing mindset. The results often seem a bit awkward. Muslim immigrants have an elaborate network of sleeper cells, but some of the Muslims are good people who object to their religion of peace being subverted by extremists. Most immigrants are hard-working, but need help acclimating to local customs. Women are just as capable, or more so, as intelligence officers. They are dedicated, less likely to betray their country and capable of going head-to-head in unarmed combat against two opponents who each outweigh them by half. The real villains aren't the peace- loving Muslms, but the hard line extremists in our own governments who manipulate our enemies for political gain. At several points in the film, it feels as if the filmmakers are pausing the action to present homework assignments from a community college course in civics.
The script is not entirely satisfying dramatically. In addition to distracting political subtext, too many characters know too much about future events. The protagonist doesn't seem to need to work very hard to uncover things. There are a lot of coincidences. The protagonist more often seems to be knocked about by events, rather than driving them. There are too many remorseless murderers willing to employ weapons of mass destruction for a price. At least three significant characters may have died, but we're not entirely certain.
Overall, it's an engaging movie that might have been better if it invested less effort in trying to be politically correct.

Engaging and twisted thriller concerning the spy-world and mostly developed in London. Alice Racine (Noomi Rapace) works at a London Community Center as a therapist. She lives alone in a quiet apartment. However, it is revealed that she is a previous interrogation officer for the Central Intelligence who retired after she broke a bomber too late resulting in an explosion killing numerous people in Paris. Alice secretly longs for a chance to make things right and frequently meets with MI5 Intelligence Chief Emily Knowles (Tony Colette) for another possible job. Racine's former trainer and mentor Eric Lasche (Michael Douglas) encourages her not to let the guilt of her failure destroy her and explains that she could still help in the future in the field. Then the female agent on the run from assassins as well as sniper operatives and she has to stop the terror and must fight the conspiracy. Meanwhile, the CIA and MI5 learn that a biological attack on an American target by Islamic extremist Yazeed Khalil will be launched in Britain in collaboration with Islamic convert David Mercer. The truth has many enemies!
Intriguing and suspenseful movie containing thrills, crosses, double-crosses, shootouts, spectacular action scenes, plot twists and turns. Story's core is interesting and script is dense with information and drama. The ultra-brisk editing and rapid scenes movement leaves little time to consider some inadequacies. Regarding peculiar relationships among top-of-the-range spies along with bloody terrorism and impressive action set pieces. The plot is simple and plain, as an ex-agent is hired for a short work, but then she finds herself tangled in a deadly conspiracy. The picture is acceptable and passable but it results to be predictable and delivers a 'deja vu' sensation. The use of geopolitical messages to add weight to a the subplots. Director Michael Apted's desire to bring more authentic female characters to the action genre was the inspiration for this his most recent feature film, that's why he got the great role for Noomi Rapace as the new heroine of the recent action thrillers. As Noomi Rapace provides nice acting as an ex CIA agent, she's an interrogator lured into a ruse that puts London at risk of a biological attack. Rapace has become herself an expert heroine in various thrillers, action and suspense movies and she even performed all her own stunts for her valiant characters, such as: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Rupture, Stockholm, The drop (2014), Child 44 (2015), Unlocked (2017), What Happened to Monday (2017), Close (2019). Noomi Rapace sustains interest enough in this tale of double-agents, betrayal, sacrifice and terrorism. Orlando Bloom is good as well, as a tough ex-soldier and Michael Douglas is cool displaying an enjoyable performance as the elderly CIA agent. They are well accompanied by a good support cast, such as: Toni Collette, John Malkovich, Matthew Marsh, Makram Khoury, Brian Caspe, among others.
This nail-biting film packs adequate, evocative cinematography by George Richmond and rousing musical score by Stephen Barton. The motion picture was well realized by Michael Apted. He was a good filmmaker whose works received some great reviews from his first big hit. He was good writer/ producer/director of several successes, such as: ¨The word is not enough¨, ¨Gorillas in the mist¨, ¨Class action¨, ¨Nell¨, ¨Enigma¨, ¨Gorky Park¨, ¨Sweeney¨, ¨Agatha¨, ¨The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader¨, among others. Rating: 6.5/10, above average and worthwhile seeing, youngsters and action lovers will enjoy this film. It's a very likable thriller and enormously appealing for young men and adults. Overall this is a really agreeable movie.

Some twists work better than others... some thrillers are just predictable most of the time. This is something along those lines. But it has quite the great actors to really help it and elevate it, no matter how frustrated I got with certain... decisions - from characters or story wise.
Everyone involved seems to had a good time filming this, which is quite the feat, considering the theme this carries. The tension is there from start to finish and I would say it does a good job with some very sensible issues. For some that may be a bit too neat at times, but don't forget, this is just a movie. Entertaining at that too, if you forgive how crazy one of the twists is...

I didn't know what to expect as i had not seen the trailer and I decided to watch the film due to excellent actress Noomi Rapace. I was surprised by the flow of action and the pace of the film. If you are looking for a good action-adventure that will keep you on edge, this is the film for you. It is one of the better films that have a smart take on the counter-terrorism movie universe. Enjoy!
Noomi Rapace does it again, bringing us another suspenseful action thriller. (She did a Sci-Fi thriller for Netflix called What Happen to Monday (Would recommend). For Unlocked, Rapace plays a CIA interrogator called in after years of inactive duty to get info about a possible bioweapon, when she discovers that the people she was working for are not CIA. Now she's on the run and racing against the clock to prove to the CIA she's on their side and stop a terrorist strike.
Would have not expected the original Lisbeth Salander from The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo series to become somewhat of an action movie star. It maybe too early to make that call, but so far I like what she's doing and I like what she was doing in this movie. Unlocked is not a bad story to follow and it has plenty of action to keep me satisfied.
http://cinemagardens.com It also has a pretty stellar cast that includes Orlando Bloom, Toni Collette, John Malkovich and Micheal Douglas all taking Rapace lead. Little surprise that it was not in more theaters as it turned into a good movie to watch.

In London, CIA interrogator Alice Racine (Noomi Rapace) is still haunted by her failure resulting in a terrorist attack. She reluctantly accepts an emergency call to interrogate a suspect in a possible future biological attack. She starts to suspect something wrong and barely escapes from her handlers' bullets. With important information, she seeks help from her mentor Eric Lasch (Michael Douglas). Eric directs her to a safe house before he is killed. She finds thief Jack Alcott (Orlando Bloom) at the house and finds her superior Bob Hunter (John Malkovich) distrusting her. She gets help from Emily Knowles (Toni Collette) at MI5 but they are double-crossed.
Veteran British director Michael Apted has a Bond movie in his resume. This one feels more like a Bourne movie especially after Alice first uncovers the trap. The overall problem for me is the various twists. They are obvious and annoyingly twisty. The motivation is questionable. It seems like they already have the connection and the code in the end which makes all the chasing around unnecessary. Imagine the suspect delivering the cancel code. That's essentially what happens and it doesn't matter. Think about it. Also, the villain's motive is the stuff of cartoons. The overall premise needs some rethinking and rewriting.

Three Days of the Condor meets Jason Bourne meets bio warfare. Nooni Rapace was excellent as the lead. Acting was superior all the way around. Plot was good with excellent pace. The 6 rating on this film is misleading and inaccurate in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys spy/action flicks.

Great cast, great acting, decent directing and editing but the writing was all over the place. Even the all star cast couldn't save this OK cliché'd film, and full of clichés it was. Had the story been a little tighter with less (and unnecessary) surprise (barely) plot twists (predictable), I would have enjoyed it more. Would I watch it again? Nope. It's a 7/10 from me.

I recently watched "Unlocked" starring Naomi Rapace on Netflix. About a third of the way through the movie Orlando Bloom appeared and I thought to myself, Oh, no, the makers couldn't let a woman carry the movie without bringing in a hunky man (love interest alert!) to help her do all the things that she, only a mere woman, couldn't manage on her own. I won't spoil the movie for who might wish to see it but suffice to say that it didn't turn out that way at all. Naomi Rapace managed very well on her own, better in fact than Orlando Bloom, who in his defence was only a mere man. Despite its absurd premise the movie was very entertaining mainly because it had a talented woman in the lead. Since watching the movie I have read some reviews, most of which were scathing - unjustifiably in my opinion. The acting was interesting: the low-key but very compelling Rapace and Toni Collette contrasting nicely with John Malkovich in full Mad Hatter mode. The plot and its pacing effective enough, despite various plot lapses. The casting of Michael Douglas was a major blunder: simply having him in the movie gives half the plot away and (as I said) the premise, Douglas's rationale for the goings-on he put in motion, is about as silly as silly can be. But we don't learn that rationale until the end of the movie. Till then it is a movie that gives its audience an enjoyable couple of hours.

If you like movies with a lot of twists and turns then you definitely have to give this one a shot. Because if there is one thing that this movie doesn't lack it's twists. At one point it wasn't easy to follow I thought but at the end it all fits together and you get a clear view. Unlocked is a modern spy movie with a lot of action so you don't have time to get bored. The main character Alice Racine is played by Noomi Rapace and she did a good job. As a CIA agent she gets caught in a web of intrigues and betrayals. The rest of the cast with excellent actors such as John Malkovich, Orlando Bloom, Michael Douglas and Toni Collette only adds to the quality of the movie. You never have a dull moment and the movie requires your full attention all the time. Certainly worth watching if you like this kind of movies.

If you're reading this during or post Covid it does make you wonder if that is what is going on in the world right now.
This movie pre Covid would seem like another Cat and Mouse chase with a few minor twists and turns. There are many characters to try to keep track of and the slightly predicable bad guy confrontation....
...But add Covid to the mix when watching this and the story has taken on a whole new aspect which glosses over the slightly dodgy acting and predicability.
A relatable and likeable background movie.

I felt like rating it as a ten simply to fight back against the haters, but felt that it would be hypocritical to do exactly the opposite of those who so easily award 1 or 2 stars when the movie is patently far better than that.
The action took a while to build up steam but was worth the wait. The role of Jack did feel a bit contrived but this is a bloody thriller after all. Strange that Blooms role as Jack should be criticized by many as unbelievable but his biggest role, the one that launched his career and made him famous, was that of an elf.
The reason why I actually enjoy most movies, is because I can easily suspend belief in what is (excluding documentaries, of course) after all, a story made up to entertain people.
The chief criteria for my enjoyment of a movie is, was I entertained by it? Good writing, good acting and good production values all help create the impression that I watched something worthwhile. If I am entertained by the movie, I am far more forgiving of it's minor flaws.
My wife and I discussed the reason for so much negative criticism and considered it might well be because many of the Muslims were shown to be human, an idea obviously anathema to many viewers. I myself lived in Saudi Arabia for close to 10 years and understand that good and bad reside almost equally in most humans and that it takes an act of will to force oneself to rise above bigotry, greed and selfishness. I met many Muslims who were good people by choice in my time in Saudi and also many others I hope never to meet on this or any plane of existence they might believe in.
My wife and I agree on a score of 8.

Throughly enjoyable thriller with a story you don't expect along with plenty of twists you won't guess.
Enough action to keep everyone interested along with faces you don't expect.
Altogether a very good competent well thought out film to enjoy!

How cliche can a spy movie get. It honestly baffles me just how bady they want the movie to be filled with action but still resolve in a positive feel good manner. How many friggin movies are in the world where the day is saved because the villain monologues for too long???? Come on.....Literally a countdown is happening on the phone and mr villain's great idea is to stand directly next to the one person trying to stop you. 5 minute timer??? Who the frick would do that? Who the frick puts an off switch on a timer for that purpose?
Overall an excruciatingly cliche movie that had me rolling my eyes half the time. Success was just given to the good guys because of the sheer ineptitude of the villains.
