The adventure fantasy genre of the anime world recently got a new addition in the form ofRyoko Kui’s Delicious in Dungeon, which was produced byStudio Trigger.The story is one of the most unique narratives that have been introduced in the Seinen community in a long time. The Delicious in Dungeon manga was serialized from February 2014 to September 2023 and had almost 100 entertaining chapters which were collected in 14 tankōbon volumes. While the manga had decent popularity on its own, the release of the anime series boosted the sales of the manga volumes, and fans discovered more about it.

The manga panels of the series are getting special appreciation from the fans because of Kui’s art style and the details it presented about the multiple scenes and characters.

Natsuko Hirose, the star of this season's Zenshu, can bring anything to life through the power of animation. And that apparently includes idols! The company already has a 2% stake in Kadokawa and owning them might be going too far for everyone’s comfort.

Kadokawa Corporation announced on Nov 7, 2024, that its anime and live-action video business achieved significant growth in the second quarter of fiscal year 2024, with revenue soaring 26.7% year-on-year to 14.406 billion yen.

Studio Trigger's anime adaptation ofDelicious in Dungeonutterly captivated audiences earlier this year with its lovable cast, intricate world-building, and eccentric yet appetizing meals. That said, one aspect ofDelicious in Dungeonthat especially caught the eye of fans was the series' unique approach to fan service, whereinSenshiis often the object of it instead of any of the female cast, and the reason why is just as bizarre as fans would expect.

In an interview at Anime Expo 2024,Delicious in Dungeon's creatorRyoko Kuirevealed that the fan service involving Senshi was not intentional. Rather, Senshi was actually inspired by an old man Kui knew as a child who would nonchalantly hang around in his underwear. The fantasy genre of anime has gotten into a kind of slump with the popularity of isekai–which were novel when they were conceived, but have devolved into male fantasies where the protagonists enter a magic world, slay monsters, and get a harem of women. While fans have started getting sick of isekai stories, fantasy as a genre is finding a return to form with recent properties like “Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End”,andStudio Trigger’s recent adaptation of the fantastic “Dungeon Meshi”or “Delicious in Dungeon”by authorRyoko Kui.

The anime has successfully adapted multiple arcs of the manga, and a second season is already underway. For fans who can’t wait though, they’ve turned to the original manga to further explore the fate of Laios, Marcille, and the rest of the Touden Party.

Kadokawarevealed its its top-performing IP for the first quarter of 2024 (April-June), withDungeon Meshi(Delicious inDungeon) taking the lead by a wide margin.

The company reported that the IP generated over 2 billion yen in revenue across all media, including publishing, anime, and licensing, although the exact figure was not disclosed.

Dungeon Meshitopped the rankings in both the publishing and IP creation segment, as well as the anime production segment, earning more than twice the sales of the second-place IP.

Coming in second wasKonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!,which brought in close to 1 billion yen in sales.
