Ghost Brothers(2016)
Underrated
Bring this show back! These guys are entertaining and likable, investigations are a perfect blend of professional and humorous. No over-the-top theatrics, just some guys trying to chat with ghosts. Good stuff.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things(2020)
A movie that thinks it's smarter than it actually is.
Pretentious, eye-roll inducing, and just bad writing. I can't believe I sat through 10 minutes of bad poetry and still finished this film.
My Brother, My Brother and Me(2017)
PLEASE MAKE MORE.
I've laughed every single episode. Beautifully and uniquely McElroy.
Euphoria(2019)
Hyperrealism at its finest
Watched this about 3 times since it aired. Intense, relatable, and compelling.
Vampires(2020)
Welp
What do you think Twilight would like if it were French and made in 2020?
Here ya go.
Castlevania:Abandon All Hope(2020)
Yes yes yes
This is what a well-made production looks like. I couldn't get enough. Keep it coming!
100 Humans(2020)
Pseudoscience, but entertaining.
Would have been better with, you know, real science. But mildly entertaining anyway. So long as you're aware that actual science doesn't look anything like this.
Some bits are fun, some intriguing, and some flat out nonsense or just boring. Even the male host looks bored 99% of the time. Hit or miss, really.
The Last Man on Earth(2015)
Garbage.
Sexist and boring. Honestly don't understand how this show is so popular. It was the worst thing I'd watched in years.
Another Life(2019)
About half of the main writers worked on Degrassi. Yep.
After watching 30 minutes of this hot garbage and reading the reviews here, I just had to know who was responsible for this waste of a budget. Now we know why it plays like a terrible high school drama.
What a slap in the face to sci-fi fans. Seriously, Netflix?
Shadow of the Tomb Raider(2018)
Okay, at best.
The beginning had me hooked at first. I genuinely thought they were going to hold Lara responsible for being a foreigner raiding cultural artifacts and trespassing in these ancient tombs she has no business really being in. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first two. I was stoked to play this. The intro sequences here implied that, for once, Lara should take a look at her actions and own up to how they affect other people, and that the world doesn't revolve around her.
That doesn't last too long though. The story/character development quickly reverts back to grandiose heroine Lara. I got to about 50% through the game and found that I felt like I'd done very little. I was upgrading weapons that rarely even saw combat. The story felt flat and predictable. The visuals, of course, were stunning, but overall this game just didn't measure up to its predecessors. I got bored halfway through and ended up uninstalling it awhile later when I realized my desire to play it through just wasn't there.
Red Dead Redemption II(2018)
Cried my goddamn heart out.
One of the most outstanding video games I've ever played.
Hostiles(2017)
Defeating toxic Western tropes beautifully
This was a beautiful, poignant film that just fell short by not giving enough dialogue to the natives. The message was clear, but it would've been stronger with their perspective.
That said, it is one of the most emotive films I've seen over the last few years. And it defeats racist, toxic masculinity tropes of Westerns by showing compassion toward American Indians, recognizing the despicable ways they have been treated, and allowing men to be vulnerable and express the despair that comes with war and loss. It reveals the devastation war and senseless violence has on everyone's lives.
