Consciousness transfers, ominous implants, surveillance and tracking systems, suspicious social networks, evil apps and killer robot dogs and bees… Black Mirror’s relationship with technology has always been an uneasy one. The series even once made streaming technology an integral part of its storytelling. So with all the recent flap across multiple industries about the possible need to arrest the development of Artificial Intelligence, you might wonder about Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker’s own position on AI-fuelled software like ChatGPT. Well, forget deep fakes – think deeply unimpressed.
“I’ve toyed around with ChatGPT a bit," Brooker reveals in the new issue of Empire. "The first thing I did was type 'generate Black Mirror episode' and it comes up with something that, at first glance, reads plausibly, but on second glance, is shit. Because all it’s done is look up all the synopses of Black Mirror episodes, and sort of mush them together.

It seems like the perfect idea — a popular Netflix anthology horror sci-fi about the dark ramifications of having technology that is omnipresent actually being written by an artificially intelligent algorithm. As AI becomes more and more prevalent, there’s a current debate and a great fear about artists and writers being overtaken by the ever-advancing technology. This is especially a topic at the forefront of the current situation surrounding the WGA strike. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creator of Black Mirror decided to plunge head-first into the method and tried to use AI to write an episode for the upcoming season 6.
Charlie Brooker recently gave an interview with Empire magazine where he admitted that he dabbled in using ChatGPT, the chatbot developed by OpenAI. Brooker would explain, “The first thing I did was type ‘generate Black Mirror episode’ and it comes up with something that, at first glance, reads plausibly,...

“It’s like something out of ‘Black Mirror,’ right?”
You may have said such a thing while reading about (or tinkering around with) AI tools like ChatGPT. If so, you weren’t the only one. “Black Mirror” series creator Charlie Booker clearly thought something similar, and in a new interview with the British film magazine Empire he confessed he was curious enough to see what would happen if he instructed the new technology to “generate a ‘Black Mirror’ episode.”
The results, he said, weren’t too impressive.
“t comes up with something that, at first glance, reads plausibly, but on second glance, is shit. Because all it’s done is look up all the synopsis of ‘Black Mirror’ episodes, and sort of mush them together. Then if you dig a bit more deeply you go, ‘Oh, there’s not actually any real original thought here.’”

With the adverse effect of technology at the center of the hit series Black Mirror, creator Charlie Brooker decided to test the highly-discussed Artificial Intelligence technology for himself.
During a recent interview with Empire magazine, the television writer said he actually “toyed around with ChatGPT a bit” while writing the latest season of the anthology series.
“The first thing I did was type ‘generate Black Mirror episode’ and it comes up with something that, at first glance, reads plausibly, but on second glance, is shit,” Brooker said of the technology’s ability to write a script. “All it’s done is look up all the synopses of Black Mirror episodes, and sort of mush them together. Then if you dig a bit more deeply you go, ‘Oh, there’s not actually any real original thought here.’ It’s [1970s impressionist] Mike Yarwood — there’s a topical reference.”

Charlie Brooker, creator of the Netflix series ‘Black Mirror,’ recently asked ChatGPT to write him an episode of the dystopian anthology series, and he wasn’t impressed with the results.
“I’ve toyed around with ChatGPT a bit,” Brooker said to Empire in an article released Tuesday. “The first thing I did was type ‘generate ‘Black Mirror’ episode’ and it comes up with something that, at first glance, reads plausibly, but on second glance, is shit. The chatbot, created by developer OpenAI, is a large language model, meaning it only mimics the large quantities of pre-existing texts it consumes from across the internet.

Black Mirror is an anthology series on Netflix that explores techno-paranoia, often revealing the unintended negative consequences of technology in today’s society.
With ChatGPT being software that has generated a lot of attention recently over the AI-generated content it creates, Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker took it to task and prompted it to write an episode. However, Brooker soon realized that the output was not something that he could actually use.
“I’ve toyed around with ChatGPT a bit,” Brooker told Empire in an interview. “The first thing I did was type ‘generate Black Mirror episode’ and it comes up with something that, at first glance, reads plausibly, but on second glance, is sh*t.”
Brooker continued, “Because all it’s done is look up all the synopses of Black Mirror episodes, and sort of mush them together. Then if you dig a bit more deeply you go, ‘Oh,...

“Black Mirror” creator Charlie Brooker revealed to Empire magazine that he went full “Black Mirror” by asking the artificial intelligence chatbot known as ChatGPT to write an episode of his beloved anthology series. The final results were “shit,” according to Brooker.
“I’ve toyed around with ChatGPT a bit,” Brooker said. “The first thing I did was type ‘generate “Black Mirror” episode’ and it comes up with something that, at first glance, reads plausibly, but on second glance, is shit. Brooker added, “If you dig a bit more deeply you go, ‘Oh, there’s not actually any real original thought here.’ It’s [1970s impressionist] Mike Yarwood — there’s a topical reference.”
While the ChatGPT-scripted “Black Mirror” episode was unusable, it did prove helpful for Brooker in pointing out several “Black Mirror” cliches.

There aren’t many films that trigger such a range of questions and queries as A Field in England (our review can be seen here). As soon as you’ve finished watching it, the first thing you want to do is call up the director and run over a few things. So, we had the great fortunate of doing it on your behalf, as we sat down to discuss the psychedelic drama with it’s director Ben Wheatley.
Coming off the back of the great critical success of Sightseers, Wheatley returns with something a little more offbeat, and a film that is part of an experiment whereby it’s being shown on Film4 on the same day as its theatrical release. We spoke to Wheatley about being the guinea pig for such an idea, while he also tells us about creating such a bizarre piece of cinema, why he chose...

Comedian Rory Bremner has claimed that there is a "serious problem" with the lack of political satire on British TV. The impressionist, who appeared on Channel 4 politics series Bremner, Bird and Fortune between 1999 and 2010, claimed that the lack of an engaging politics show and the apathy from the public towards politicians was worrying and "a great shame". "I think there is seriously a problem with satire at the moment. There is a problem because the link between people and politicians has eroded after the expenses scandal and lots of other things," Bremner told Digital Spy. "First there was That Was The Week That Was, then we had Mike Yarwood doing Ted Heath and Harold Wilson impressions, then there was Spitting Image and then there was our show Bremner, Bird and Fortune. "But the point about those (more)...

Veteran Actress Brown Dies
British comedy actress Janet Brown has died at the age of 87.
The veteran star, known for her impersonations of former U.K. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, passed away in her sleep at a nursing home in Hove, south east England. Her death comes following a short illness, according to her agent Susan Angel.
Brown began her career in the 1930s, but it wasn't until the 1970s that she really found fame, showing off her impersonation skills during appearances on The Mike Yarwood Show.
Her Thatcher spoof was so good, she was cast as the leading politician in the James Bond movie For Your Eyes Only in 1981.
She later starred in British TV dramas such as Midsomer Murders, Casualty and Hotel Babylon.
Brown, who was married to late Carry On star Peter Butterworth, is survived by their actor son Tyler Butterworth.

My mother, Hannah Kodicek, who has died aged 63 of pancreatic cancer, was a film-maker, actor, writer, educator and creator of children's television classics, who blended artistic vision with erudition and a childlike humour.
Born Zuzana Oprsalova in Czechoslovakia and trained as a pianist at the Prague Conservatoire, she emigrated to Britain in 1968, after the Russian invasion, with her husband, Michal, and young son, Peter. They were lucky enough to be taken under the wing of an English family in Blackheath, south-east London, which enabled Hannah to get on her feet through a succession of low-paid jobs, until she learned the language.
The cold war meant that there were opportunities for a beautiful young woman with an exotic accent and she found a number of acting roles, under the name Susan Kodicek, mostly as some kind of spy. Her most celebrated role was as Irina in the widely acclaimed 1979 TV adaptation...

From a photo of the real Harvey Milk to a shot of the climber in 127 Hours, why do films flaunt their subjects as the credits roll?
"And this is me," impressionist Mike Yarwood used to declare at the end of his TV shows after another round of Harold Wilsons and Brian Cloughs, revealing his own natural expression by way of a finale. Now, years later, much the same strategy looks to have become de rigueur for the modern biopic – a small but important moment directly before the closing credits in which we cut from the end of the narrative proper to an image of the real individual whose story has just unfolded.
At the conclusion of Danny Boyle's 127 Hours, for instance, we find the subject of the film, climber Aron Ralston, beatifically gazing at the camera mere moments after his screen alter-ego James Franco doggedly hacked off an arm...
