The opening credit sequence pays animated homage to Sex and the City, Star Wars, Singing in the Rain, Mary Poppins, Emperor of the North Pole, God of Gamblers, James Bond, Game of Death, Tower of Death, Kill Bill, The Graduate, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Kuragehime was simulcast on FUNimation in Fall 2010, and became available as a DVD and Blu-ray release the following year. Kuragehime was also briefly available for streaming on Netflix as Princess Jellyfish.
Based on the Kuragehime josei manga series written and illustrated by Akiko Higashimura. It was serialized in Kodansha's josei manga magazine Kiss from October 2008 to August 2017.
