30 years after its release, directorBrian Levant's "The Flintstones"remains an incredible-looking movie. The 1994 live-action take on Hanna-Barbera's famous prehistoric cartoon sitcom is littered with astonishingly detailed practical sets bringing the primitive suburbia known as Bedrock to colorful life. Equally remarkable are the practical animatronics used to realize the various critters that function as household items in the"Flintstones"universe, including a" garbage disposal "in the form of a Stone Age pig-like creature known as the Pigosaurus and the sassy" recording device "known as the Dictabird. Tragically, though, the movie's original puppet for the Flintstones' pet dinosaur, a Snorkasaurus named Dino, was replaced with a CGI version during development, as detailed in Patrick (H) Willems' excellent video essay," The Rise And Fall Of Muppet Cinema. "
The problem with "The Flintstones,"is, well, everything else. Being rooted in mid-20th-century suburban stereotypes, the characters from the" Flintstones "cartoon aren't substantial...

Series starJake Johnsonrecently told our sister site Deadline that he doesn’t expect the comedy to come back for Season 3. He called the show’s 2022 renewal-then-cancellation at Max, and the subsequent move toStarz,“brutal,” adding that Season 2’s unfortunate timeline didn’t help things, either.

A third season ofStarz’s period erotic comedyMinxisn’t likely in the cards, according to co-ep and starJake Johnson.
In a recent Zoom chat with Deadline, the actor shared that he hasn’t heard anything about a final decision. “But by evidence of me cutting my hair short,” he said, “I don’t [expect a renewal].”
“I think the move to Starz, I think HBO kind of doing their HBO thing, or HBO Max, whatever it’s called now, I think that was brutal for [the show],” Johnson reflected. “Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it…My guess is you can’t beat something up that many times and keep going.”
Johnson called the hampering of the show’s success, simply as a result of the turbulent Hollywood moment in which it debuted, “unfortunate,” given his feeling that “there was a lot to that show.

Despite what the "manosphere" tries to say, society is far more aware of the influence of age and power dynamics in relationships than it used to be. Sometimes to a disastrous point, as young fans who are less trained than ever to deal with media critically may overreact and miss the point of a piece of fiction. And then there are the people who believe that the existence of LGBTQ+ people is a danger to children. That is, of course, nonsense of a cruel and bigoted kind.
What's true, though, is that an older person can hold all kinds of sway over someone younger, from financial threats to abuse of power in a work or life situation. In fiction, an age gap romance or a relationship with imbalanced power dynamics can be used to explore important themes. Not all stories have aged well, though, and sometimes the behind-the-scenes tales are even worse.

The party's over.
Apple TV+ has canceledThe Afterpartyafter two seasons, Deadline reports.
The decision comes weeks after the conclusion ofThe AfterpartySeason 2.
Thankfully, each season of the series is designed to be self-contained, meaning fans were not left hanging over a cliff about what would have happened next.
Resolution is necessary for a show ofThe Afterparty's caliber, which begins its seasons with a murder before havingTiffany Haddish's Detective Danner investigating the pool of suspects.
The investigation is infused with humor, red herrings, and everything you'd expect from a series that doesn't want to tell you the killer's identity until the season finale.
It's unclear how well the show performed on Apple TV+ because the streaming service keeps those viewership statistics under lock and key.

Bottom Dollar is no more. The scrappy porn publisher at the center ofStarz’s Minx has been replaced with a shiny new conglomerate — Papadopoulos-Renetti Global — that puts Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson) back on top, and at odds with his former co-workers. It’s a not-so-surprising turn of events, as their publisher and one-time savior Constance Papadopoulos (Elizabeth Perkins) spent much of Season 2 shaking up the company structure and, by extension, the group dynamic. The billionaire widow may have seemed impressed by Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) and Doug’s efforts, even taking the time to bestow praise and promotions on art director Richie (Oscar Montoya) and managing editor Tina (Idara Victor), but she was covertly planning a seismic overhaul of Bottom Dollar Publications.

InMinx‘s season two finale, the Bottom Dollar gang reunites to hit back at Constance Papadopoulos’ takeover, which has not only reshaped the magazine (titled “Minx”) but slowly revealed itself as more hostile than (almost) anyone realized.

But the magazine’s international operations — promised to Doug by Joyce — were handed to Tina by Constance. Earlier in the season, Tina also turned down Doug’s marriage proposal after they both attended her family dinner, where Doug discovered she never told her family they were dating. As a result,...

If you paid attention to Season 1 of “The Afterparty,”the answer was obvious.
The high school reunion murder of Xavier (Dave Franco) at the hands of a classmate introduced viewers toChristopher Miller’s multigenre Apple TV+ series, in which each suspect recounts the night’s events as they experienced it. The murderer turned out to be the one with the most outlandish, exaggerated, and discrepant story of the bunch: Yasper (Ben Schwartz), who viewed the night as a wish-fulfilling musical.
Yasper was motivated by jealousy and revenge, the same emotions shared by Xavier’s other classmates but in comparatively low doses and without the means and opportunity. In Season 2 there’s a helluva lot of truly murderous motive; the unfaithful wife, the financially doomed father-in-law, the jealous sister, the gaslit mother, the disgraced business partner. “The Afterparty”has placed all sorts of lenses on its murder mystery wedding romp in Season 2: the generic conventions of rom-com and film noir, specific directorial styles likeAlfred Hitchcock’s andWes Anderson’s, and even whole modes of filmmaking as inFeng’s (Ken Jeong) found-footage episode peppered with vertical iPhone videos ready forTikTok.
The sheer number of different visual styles the show needs is a challenge, but so is creating a “normal” look for the present-day interrogation scenes with Danner (Tiffany Haddish),Aniq(Sam Richardson), and Zoë (Zoe Chao). Working out the feeling of that grounding “home base” look was as challenging as crafting the show’s most extreme visual styles, and in both cases required cinematographerRoss Riegeto do a lot of calibrating in order to get it right — and then keep it straight.

[The following story includes spoilers forMinxseason two.]
In the second season ofMinx,Idara Victor’s Tina andOscar Montoya’s Richie have not only gotten expanded storylines but also a tighter relationship.
It’s a noticeable screen time pivot for the duo, who frequently found themselves on opposite sides of the Bottom Dollar coin during the show’s first season. That hasn’t quite changed in season two, but as Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond) and Doug (Jake Johnson) seemingly move farther apart with the presence ofMinx‘s new wealthy investor Constance Papadopoulos (Elizabeth Perkins), the business-minded Tina and artistic-minded Richie have come to find solace in one another amid the chaos.
And much in line with the second season’s theme of “getting bigger” and “going harder,” in the first six episodes of theStarzshow’s second run, viewers have been given substantial looks at both Oscar and Tina’s home lives,...

[This story contains spoilers fromMinxseason two, episode four: “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Sexiness.” ]
InMinx‘s second season,Ophelia Lovibond’s Joyce Prigger is finally wearing the pants when it comes to control over the magazine’s business and creative content decisions.
Her reunion withJake Johnson’s publisher Doug Renetti — after his ego let her walk away from the magazine last season — has resulted in a new hierarchy at the publication (titled “Minx”). One where the magazine has returned better than ever, but with the financial backing of Elizabeth Perkins’ Constance Papadopoulos, a billionaire shipping magnate who has sparred with men for control in her own life.
And she has given Joyce majority control, allowing Minx’s co-founder and concept creator to finally envision the magazine how she wants — with fewer compromises.
“I think she’s enjoying the power and being able to pack her opinions with a punch,” Lovibond...
