Craig Melvinwill be the new co-anchor ofNBC’s Today show. The show announced the news Thursday morning.

Melvin will joinSavannah Guthrieat the Today anchor desk in January afterHoda Kotbsteps aside. Kotb’s final show will be Friday, Jan. 10, while Melvin will assume his new role on Monday, Jan. 13. He will also continue to co-host the third hour of the program.

“The staff found out this morning, and people broke into applause,”Guthriesaid in announcing the news. “This is one of the most popular decisions NBC has ever made.”

“I didn’t have sisters, but you guys [are the] sisters that I never knew that I needed,” Melvin said to Guthrie and Kotb. “I’m beyond excited and grateful. I had a lot of conversations yesterday with a lot of people who mean a lot to me. I want to, obviously, thank NBC and the folks here who deemed me worthy.

Craig Melvinwill become the new co-anchor ofNBC’s Today, following the departure ofHoda Kotbin January.

The announcement was made on this morning’s broadcast. Kotb’s final day on the show will be on Jan. 10, and Melvin will start on Jan. 13.

Melvin will joinSavannah Guthrieas the main co-host of the morning show, the 72-year-old franchise that is a profit center for the network’s news division.

Melvin became a news anchor of Today in 2018 and co-host of 3rd Hour of Today the following year. He also anchored a dailyMSNBCshow, but stepped back from that in 2022 to focus on the morning show.
