I loveStanley Kubrick‘s classicStephen Kingadaptation The Shining (watch it Here) and would probably have a blast watching the movie at the Timberline Lodge in Oregon – which is the place that stood in for the Overlook Hotel in the exterior shots of the location. (The interior scenes were filmed on sets in England.) Chances are, I’m not going to be able to do that any time soon, but some fans are going to have that opportunity later this year! On Set Cinema has announced that they will be showingThe Shiningat the Timberline Lodge on Sunday, October 6th! The event details can be found at This Link and tickets can be purchased Here.

(Welcome to Best Action Scene Ever, a column dedicated to breaking down the best, most effective action sequences throughout the genre. In this edition, we revisit the high water mark for one-location thrillers: the central siege inJohn Carpenter's 1976 classic "Assault on Precinct 13.")
There's a hypothetical version of "Assault on Precinct 13"out there that does away with the restraint and foreboding atmosphere of the original, recklessly tossed out in favor of high-wire thrills and a never-ending collection of narrative tropes. In place of a handful of straightforward (yet effective) archetypes thrown together as strangers but who come out as something else altogether after the crucible of one endlessly violent night, someone might've had the inclination to try and" humanize "these characters by burdening them with edgy backstories or an overcomplicated plot. In essence, imagine stripping away all the idiosyncrasy and personality just to end up with another generic action/thriller.

"I've got three shots – that's enough!" "Can't argue with a confident man." Newly restored in 4K, Assault on Precinct 13 is back on the big screen—loud, beautiful, and inescapable, as it was always meant to be seen. TheAmerican Genre Film Archive(Agfa), the largest non-profit genre film archive and distributor in the world, has released a brand new trailer for the 4K re-release of Carpenter's 1976 action classic. This brutally violent, gritty film from the 1970s was made before Carpenter went on to directHalloween,Escape from New York,The Thing, and everything else. Now the 4K restoration is set to reach more theatres across the U.S. and Canada, rolling out over the next two months! TheAmerican Genre Film Archiveis responsible for this 4K theatrical re-release, and the company’s theatrical directorBret Berghad this to say about it: “It’s an honor to represent Carpenter’s legacy, given how much personal joy his work has created for us. When it’s something as iconic as Precinct 13 – akin to the heartstopping majesty of Halloween – we’re driven to get this taut masterwork in front of as many audiences as we can. Big thanks to the Ckk Corporation for shepherding this new restoration.”

There are generally two main schools of thought on "Rocky IV:"You can bemoan how ridiculous the franchise had become since the grittiness of the Oscar-winning original film, or celebrate it for finally shrugging off all semblance of reality to become such a glorious example of '80s excess. I say life is too short for the former and, while it is the most thinly plotted of the series to that point, I still love"Rocky IV"for the bombastic sports cartoon that it is.
Rocky Balboa(Sylvester Stallone) is no longer just the lovable slugger from Philly; now he is a bo xing superhero whose powers are an indestructible head and indefatigable spirit, a man so full of good intentions that he can even win the hearts of those stony-faced Russians in the death throes of the Cold War. In 1985, a plucky underdog from the “City of Brotherly Love” helped ease Cold War tensions with his gutsy triumph over a Soviet slugger and his passionate reminder that “everybody can change.” That ringside speech, of course, was the dramatic culmination of “Rocky IV,”one of the biggest hits of that year and critical component of theSylvester Stallonecanon. There were come-from-behind-victories, dramatic montages, and that stirring theme music, courtesy ofBill Conti— all the things that made the franchise so great. But fans of theRockysaga might be forgiven for wondering, what got left on the cutting room floor?

In 2015,Ryan Coogler’s Creed came out of nowhere to become one of the biggest box office surprises of the year after taking a tired Rocky franchise and turning it into something fresh, original and highly lucrative. Coogler did this by managing to stay true to the essence of the original films and by adding his own twist on a much-loved story.
Relinquishing his directorial duties inCreed IIin favour of writing and producing, Coogler has handed the baton to newcomer Steven Caple Jr in this impressive sequel which sees Michael B Jordan back as boxer Adonis Creed (son of Apollo Creed) andSylvester Stalloneas the iconicRocky Balboaand Creed’s bo xing coach.
After a triumphant win which sees him crowned world champion and with his singer girlfriend Bianca (Tessa Thompson) expecting their first child, Adonis Creed seems to be finally on his way to achieving everything he’s ever dreamt of.

Even after the baton has been passed, and a new hero has laid just claim to our allegiance, the uniquely enduring Rocky legend continues.
More than four decades ago, “Rocky” appeared, seemingly from out of nowhere, to introduce relatively-unknownSylvester Stallone(who also wrote the screenplay) as Philadelphia club fighterRocky Balboa(aka The Italian Stallion), a battered but proud palooka who’s inspired by shy sweetheart Adrian Pennino (Talia Shire), her boozy brother Paulie (Burt Young), and crusty trainer/manager Mickey Goldmill (Burgess Meredith) to take his best shot in an improbable matchup with heavyweight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). This week, Rocky returns as supportive mentor to the new champ, Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), in “Creed II,”the latest entry in what now stands as an eight-film franchise. Here are all the films in the franchise ranked from worst to best.

How in the world did we get two spinoffs out of “Rocky IV”?Granted, it’s not the most pressing question on your mind as you watch the agreeably paint-by-numbers “Creed II,”the inevitable sequel toRyan Coogler’s 2015 hit. “Creed”reignited the “Rocky”franchise with the story of the late Apollo Creed’s outside-of-marriage son Adonis, played byMichael B. Jordanas a brooding young man contending with the legacy of a champion he never knew.
But it is a bit of a head-scratcher that the worst entry inSylvester Stallone’s initial series — in whichRocky Balboa’s fight againstIvan Drago(Dolph Lundgren) was really jingoistic America versus a cartoon Soviet Union, which was really aging action star versus bulked-up newcomer, but which was Really Stallone’s terrible direction pummeling the crap out of Eisenstein’s theory of montage — also sowed the seeds for its newfound appreciation and reworked survival.

ActorTony Burton, who is perhaps best known for his role asDukein theRockyseries has passed away, TheWrap is reporting. The actor was 78 years old.
Apart from the character of Paulie,Dukewas one of those characters who managed to find his way into each of the original sixRockyfilms, first as Apollo Creed's trainer, and then asRocky's.
Check out one of my favorite scenes for the character from 2005'sRocky Balboa.
There has been no comment on what Burton passed away from, but regardless, Hollywood has lost a great talent. May he rest in peace.

Tony Burtonwas never the star of any of theRockyfilms. He didn't get nominated for awards, didn't appear on the posters, and his character, ApolloCreedcorner man Tony "Duke" Evers, wasn't even the most famous trainer of the series. (That would be eitherBurgess Meredith's Mickey, or, if we're countingCreed,Rockyhimself.) But what Burton, who has died at the age of 78, gave the franchise was simple: Great, chill-inducing speeches, time after time after time. Sometimes, they could be quiet yet forceful, like his failed attempt to talk Apollo out of a Balboa rematch inRocky II:or his pep talk toRockyas the two men prepared to avenge Apollo's death at the hands of Ivan Drago: But when Burton had to crank up the volume, like Duke's adrenalized response toRockyfinally cutting the big Russian, holy cow: And then, of course,...
