Jeff Key is an American actor, playwright, veterans advocate and activist He is also an honorably discharged Marine
and Iraq veteran. His one-man performance piece, The Eyes of Babylon,
is based on journal entries he wrote while at war.
Key performed the play in several US cities and in Ireland over a period of seven years.
The Showtime Network made a feature-length
documentary, Semper Fi: One Marine's Journey which details this U.S. Marine's
journey through his childhood in Alabama, going to war as a Marine, and his life of activism upon his return from Iraq.
Key was a nominee for a Drama Desk Award for his performance of the play which was selected in 2011
to premiere with the NY theater company, 59E59 Theater in their
festival, Americas Off-Broadway, featuring the best of American
regional theater.
Key is the founder of The Mehadi Foundation, a non-profit organization designed to help veterans find solace and employment in the Arts/Entertainment industry and to support philanthropic efforts in Iraq. This foundation, named for a young Iraqi boy he met while in Iraq. He also works very closely with Warrior Writers, a national organization which helps veterans get pen to paper as as well as other creative expression as healing tools.
